I own a 2012 GL550, its been a great vehicle and an amazing suv to own. The engine has been solid. Like all GLs the airmatic has been the only real issues, but they have been changed to Arnotts and haven't had a problem since. It definitely can be expensive to maintain, but I feel its worth the price for a mercedes that can do it all. Its a dream on long rides and is a tank when pushed hard, extremely capable offroad too. Definitely my favorite vehicle by far. Currently at 155k miles and still going strong. Thank you for the great video!

The thought of buying a car now and running it for 20 years is very tempting, especially when every five minutes manufacturers seem to reveal a new autonomous electric box for six figures. The car market needs time to find itself again, a Lexus RX is a great answer. Then again there is 'something' about a Range Rover, which is probably why so many RR owners stay RR owners generation after generation. Plus the community around RR and LR is great and are always finding DIY fixes to expensive jobs 😁

@themilesdriven I'm a disco 3, disco 4 and Mrs still loves her freelander 2 SD4 that hasn't missed a beat. Both my discovery are v8... replaced all the big stuff, but the engines have been pure.

A family member has gone from Disco 2, to Disco 3, and now Disco 4, but has no idea what they will replace it with. Great cars, especially if you need some off-road capability 👍

I drove a 2008 ML550 for 5 years. It had 80+K miles on it when i bought it. Ran like a top and no big issues for most of the time i had it. 5 years later at 127K the rear air bags blew and needed replacement. I did have to replace the rear door actuator mechanism twice during the time I had the car. Also, the sun roof started getting stuck at around 127K. I sold the car because i needed a full size pickup but over a year later i still miss my ML550. I loved the handling of my little German tank and how the car gripped the road, I always felt safe in that car. Also adored the Harman Kardon sound 🎶 Now looking at GL models to get back into my favorite car…the Mercedes ❤

Just bought a 2011 GL 550 with 121,500 miles on it. So far so good. Planning to get ahead of issues before they crop up. I have an oil gasket to fix and bearings.

2007 GL450. Now 164k.Everyting works, Loads of room in the 3 rows of seats. Replaced front air shocks, repainted left rear fender (clearcoat was coming off) and the occasional light bulb.. Looks great, pleasure to drive, especially in bad weather conditions.. I use liqui-moly in the engine coolant and oil (just me). Highly recommend Michelin tires. Cons. Needs premium, and gets 14-18 mpg. :(

Exhaust fluid was inteoduced with Bluetec yes but before thaf there was Bmue Technology which did not require the fluid. My 2011 CDI is a Blue Technology and precedes the exhaust fluid

about 166k miles on our 2010 GL450 and still runs like new.

Just picked a 2010 with that mileage. I had the ml class, and I anticipate similar common issues. That said I had an ml320 I bought at around 150k miles. Only mechanical issue was what I heard was typical, a change in the alternator. I have always had mechanics tell me about how I am always going to need new tires.. and I always thought the turning radius on this series from the ML was tighter than expected and I chalk that up to the issues with what is the initial common issue noted here

Yes if you can get a facelift example at a good deal then you’ll avoid some of the earlier issues. If you are looking for diesel and live in Europe then some 2015 models may be Euro 6 emissions compliant and so exempt from some city emissions taxes 👍
