The front panel display is the reason I bought my 2017 E220, because it looked so much better than the lower models that looked someone mounted an iPad on the dashboard. 6 years later and its still going strong. My only gripe is that I am stuck with COMAND instead of MBUX (and I just found out from this video, I missed out on the Dashcam feature too). But at least I have CarPlay/AndroidAuto, so it will keep being fresh as long they support my car.

However it seems only the 450d is available here in UK while the petrol variant 450 is not; except if you go for the 53 or 63 which are petrol - that's kinda awkward. I love the mild hybrid on the petrol variants which I was informed it's not on the 450d variant.

But I still need to do probably an extra 1-2 hrs work on it yet. - Subtitles need doing, yes each word is manually checked by me, the longer the video the longer it takes 😅 - Pop out banners and description with the links - And tags as well (basically what people may type in a search box to help KZbin recommend it to the right people) - And two more thumbnails. KZbin will cycle between three thumbnails and choose the best one for me. I’ll do this today though as I have the next video to work on! 😜

Hi Nick, I have a 2021 GLE, is it possible to get the bus system upgraded? Also Apple CarPlay is not full screen in the gle is there a way around this or a way to upgrade and make it full screen?
@npoleary3 ай бұрын
No sadly not, Mercedes like most car manufacturers don’t do retrofit upgrades or anything. When they bring out a new multimedia system, it’s completely new designed for that new car. It’ll have new hardware and software so isn’t just a software upgrade or anything. Sadly not all cars can do full screen CarPlay. There are other manufacturers who have come across the same before. For Mercedes it’s a common question which I’ve answered on my FAQ series here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGrbZmmOjMmdf9Esi=mlzuNGtciSlsdcdb&t=537 Basically it’s because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing & coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen. NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

Come on, £75 000 as a standard price but don't get digital lights? That's just robbery in plain sight🤧. I know quite some car manufacturers by that price range that come with matrix led (some as standard).
@npoleary3 ай бұрын
This is just a facelift though I’ve talked about this before and made a comparison to phones. Slight price difference I know but bear with me 😅 Phone manufacturers bring out a new phone every year whereas car manufacturers simply can’t do that due to their size, complex nature, highly regulated laws and a whole lot more. I’d love to do a behind the scenes video of it if I ever get the chance! From what I’ve seen the way Mercedes often do it, is they have a new model come out which will run for approx 6-7 years (normally), then a facelift halfway in between 3-4 years (normally). Facelifts only change part of the “car’s face” so when for example a car is halfway through like this one the GLE Coupe and we’ve seen other car models in Mercedes get Digital Lights, it can feel like it’s left out. My guess is that it doesn’t fit in that slot as it has apparently 1.3 million little mirrors inside. It probably would need to wait for the whole re-design in 3-4 years time where the whole front end is redesigned. That’s my take on it anyway 🤓 I could be completely wrong!
@OratileTrusts3 ай бұрын
I understand. It's just a facelift with minor changes and a slight price change. I thought facelifts are usually once every year (e.g Hyundai, Toyota) for a vehicle's generation that is 6-7 years. I wouldn't mind getting normal led lights (excluding digital lights) on a facelift.

It has Multibeam LED which is a very advanced system that Mercedes have which is LED adaptive headlights at nighttime: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o560Xquijq2ob7ssi=lW9V_uOVM32VfWPe Digital Light is just Mercedes terminology for their latest light tech. To clarify as well, as I’m not sure I made it clear on the video or on my reply, when I said Digital Light, I wasn’t referring to the car having orangey halogen lights. I think all Mercedes have LED lights now as standard. Digital Light is their version of fancy adaptive lighting tech.

I own a 2021 GLE63S Coupe. I wish you would talk about the problems with the 48v system and battery issues. The biggest problem is that I as a customer do not have the ability to trickle charge or to jump or charge in any way the battery. Must take vehicle to dealership. I’ve had the car towed out of my garage 10 months ago, right now car was being serviced and 48v battery died again, lucky it was at the dealership. I’ve read stories of vehicles dying at stop lights and worse. I am told Mercedes is aware of the 48v issues and is in their words, ‘moving away from this technology’. So what do all owners with the 48v issue? Sell the car I suppose because as of this moment there is NO fix.
@npoleary3 ай бұрын
I used to work at a car dealer and actually maintained all of the batteries in the showroom. In my 9+ years experience I had one occurrence where there was an issue with a battery which was replaced by technicians under warranty so I’m not aware of any problems with 48v systems. I know they’re incredibly complex, I even have that system in my own car I purchased last year (sadly not a V8 though 😅) and it’s absolutely fine, even filming for a couple of hours with the ignition live certainly something the average person wouldn’t do which would drain the battery. I do know however that if you are charging one that is low, it is best to leave the 12v battery on charge for as long as possible. Typically it would take 4-6 hours to charge the 12v battery, it would indicate 100% charged, but at that point it then starts charging the 48v system. So it’s best to leave the charger on for a couple of days if the car is going to be sitting around for a while. Or as you have a V8, the better thing is to go for a drive 👌🏼 but I get it if it’s not driven as much. Also to add not heard that anyone is moving away from Mild Hybrid systems at all, if anything they’re becoming more and more common on the various manufacturers I review.
@npoleary3 ай бұрын
Also I can’t comment on specifically a GLE 63 S as I’ve not driven that combination of Mild Hybrid and V8. I would certainly love to though
@subbiebie59203 ай бұрын
@@npoleary I appreciate you responding. There is definitely an issue here in the USA regarding the 48v battery dying with limited vehicle use. My dealership alone is dealing with multiple vehicles over the last few years. Manger who just returned from technical training was the person who spoke directly with a factory representative who told him the moving away from this technology statement. Anyway it’s a real problem for people who don’t drive daily. I hope they fix it.

@@lorins8687 I’ve owned 2 Cayenne turbos, last one was an 2008. In comparison the fit n finish of the GLE was far superior than the Porsche. The GLE is very nice, different kind of sporty. However, the 48v battery issue is a deal killer unless they figure out how the end user can trickle charge/ full charge the vehicle.

Having previously owned a Mercedes car with a touch pad, I now have one which relies on the steering wheel buttons, or the touch screen. Removing the touch pad is a retrograde move, purely to save money I believe. The steering wheel buttons can be awkward to use, and the touch screen requires you to lean forward - not great.

@@npoleary you're likely right and we know it's almost guaranteed to have them in it's next redesign. It makes sense, but it just feels like this model is far behind than the rest. When you buy a GLE (coupe) you expect to have some of the best tech MB has to offer. They've been available on the GLE since 2020 and now even in the E and C class. It just really feels like the GLE coupe is left behind and the issue is that most people that go with a coupe model for the sportier look would normally appreciate having the best there is. After all, there isn't a GLS Coupé so this is the best one available. Just my opinion, although I can't afford this car regardless 🤣😭
