Great video. Similar issues on our 18 GLE. Looked up part number and ordered off Amazon. I went ahead and replaced both since I was already jacking up etc.. One thing of note is I don’t see how anybody could do this without removing the tire unless they had a full lift. Needless to say $100 or so later and both replaced with all warnings cleared. Thanks again!

Yes, you'd need a lift. Definitely easier to remove the tire.

I Changed mine with out removing the tire and I have 265 45Z R20 tire that allow me to go under the car and still get enough space to replace. Thanks for posting this vlog. I had to replace the same through Mercedes that cost me $850.

This is helpful. My 2021 e class is at the dealer after my e brake stuck on at the Costco gas station. The emergency service people tried to help for half an hour trying various things, no change. Horrible experience, and the car had to be towed to the dealer. The next morning, it released immediately for the service guy. Something is very wrong. This was a very expensive car, so I am not amused.

Car back. The dealer said there was. Defective software update, which can cause the e brake to not release. They did a patch and it works. Concerning.

In the fuse box under the rear passenger seat, there should be a folded paper that has all the fuse locations.

I believe it is a different part. But call the Mercedes dealership parts department and ask for the part numbers for both your model and a 2016 W166.

Hi Frank, this video is great, i have 2 actuators sitting in my garage ready to fit both or just the drivers side if the issue resolves with just 1 actuator. I do have a question though which would help greatly, my drivers side is locked on, if i change the actuator on that side donyou know if the replacememt position of the actuators are in an open or closed position? Or does it not matter?

Shouldn't matter. But I's put both actuators in the Parking Brake Off position. If one actuator is faulty, the you may need to double check manually to see if the parking brake is actually off before fitting the new one.

Can you start the engine when the actuator still bad?

Yes but it depends upon whether it went bad with the brake engaged or disengaged. It it went bad with the brake disengaged, the. You can drive the vehicle normally but will not have a parking brake on that side. If it goes bad with the parking brake engaged, then the car will not move. You’d need to remove the actuator and manually (with a socket wrench and Allen socket) release the parking brake in order to drive the car.

You can drive. You will not have a parking brake, though. I drove mine until parts came in. I think supplies for the storm takes precedence.

There really isn’t a need to calibrate. Just activate and deactivate the break a purple of times. If it won’t go, then deactivate and manually open the brake (the motor needs to be off the vehicle). Replace the motor and it should be good.

Mine went bad today, and now my code reader has issues with all 4 speed sensors and the speedometer, gas meter, trip odometer, parking brake, power steering, and basically any drive related functions aren’t working. It went away for a bit when it happened last time. Just bought a new motor for the broken parking brake and hopefully that’ll fix it but it’s been depressing

Take the motor off, then use a torx or hex driver that will fit into the caliper portion. Manually rotate both directions until it stops. Then put it half way. Now, re-install the motor and it should work. I replaced the one on the other side and the same thing happened. When I did this procedure, it worked fine.
