Mercedes glovebox fix

Mercedes glovebox fix - glovebox not closing and not latching on. This is how I fixed mine. Hope it helps.

Mine wouldn’t latch. Took it to the dealer who without hesitation said - u need a new door. $678 Plus $150 Install. I laughed and left. I came home found your video and fixed it myself. A little glue and some patience and it’s good as new. Thank you very very much 🙏😀👍

Brilliant mate - worked like a charm... also if you have a later model with the CD changer in the glovebox, you can't get to that star bolt that holds the crossbar in place - so you hake a pair of pliers, an gently ease the crossbar out about ONE millimetre, and the latch will engage again. Thanks for the video.

Just watched the video. Our car has a CD multiplay, so you cannot get at the star screw. Just grab hold of "the unit" gently and wiggle. It will become free and I have jammed some black double sided tape. Works a treat, well done buddy, great fix!

Dude thanks for this. Driving away on holiday tomorrow and rang Mercedes in desperation to get it fixed. "Well sir it's a common fault, you'll need a new glove box lid for that. £230 and 2 day delivery" Yeah err thanks, but i'll just stick a bit of card in the latch instead?......

i tried this on my 06 clk 500 and it made latch solid but still wont close.. any ideas how to check front door assembly to see if thats the issue? thanks

Not a fix. There's 3 issues with the glovebox. 1) the screw which holds the locking mechanism is too long, so if you screw it up too tight, it rubs on the locking arm restricting it's movement and ability to unlock. Suggest packing the screw with a couple of washers and tightening the sucker up, extra hard. 2) Still with the locking mechanism and the long screw, when it's not tighten down, the latch has too much free-play so the lock can't bite onto it. refer to #1 for fix. 3) the locking mechanism wont release when the handle is pulled. This is the bit you can't fix. Some part of the spring release inside the bonded layer of the glovebox lid doesn't activate to lift the tab off the locking cam allowing the lock to release. If you look up at the handle, you'll see 3 slots, the outside slots are for the handle pivots. To the left of the middle slot you'll see 2 small bits of black plastic, with the latch in the open position poke the left bit of plastic with a small flat bladed screw driver. That throws back the tab on the locking cam and the door will open. Bad engineering .. not happy Mr Benz

when you pull the handle to unlock what part suppose to move? I think my actually lock is broken as it stays in the locked position when i pull the handle. So I have to use a flat blade and manually about to get it to the unlocked ready to latch position. Anyone else have this problem?
