What am I talking about?
My topic is the KE-Jetronic injection system which I try to demystify as much as I can.
For all of you to understand the system in brief - Developed in 1973 and being mounted into cars up to 1993 as it went in history. But why these to letters!?(KE) K(from German "kontinuierlich" meaning continuos, without interruption) the MECHANICAL injection system on which the fuel starts flowing from the fuel tank sucked by the FUEL PUMP and delivered to the FUEL DISTRIBUTOR which sends fuel to the INJECTORS while the majority of it flows through the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR through its return line back to the fuel tank again. The letter E(electronic) has to mark the electronic sensors (the developement starting from early eighties) which had to inform the ECU about the current state of the engine so that the ECU(Electronic Control Unit) then could create current signal in mAmp(miliampers) and send it to four crucial components for the system - the EHA(the electro-hydraulic actuator,a unit consisting of a magnet, an electromagnet and a baffle plate) which had to fine tune the engine in each of its phases, the ICV(the idle control valve), the unit which was predicted for the engines perfect idle, the X11(the diagnostic socket) where the duty cycle(the ideal mixture) was adjusted and the X11/4(the code reader) - the socket which from any codes were read if present using an OBD1 scanner.
An extraordinary injection system which could be fully repaired in your own garage using a multimeter and a pressure gauge only for its fine tuning, together with some common tools.

The purpose of this video is for it to prove that if you get NO fuel flow towards the injectors the culprit is not the electro-hydraulic actuator(aka EHA). The task of the EHA is to enrich or to make the mixture leaner in any moment depending on the engine load. The engine must however NOT stall if the EHA fails out of any reason. The same goes also for the idle valve(aka ICV) as well as for the overload voltage protection(aka OVP). That's why if you don't get any fuel flow out of your distributor then the culprit for your issue is NOT for sure the EHA because now the mechanical part of the system starts(aka limp mode).

Good news! I was able to get a used EHA and distributor off a 5 cyl. Audi….luckily EHA had exact same P/N. I cleaned it up, flushed it with light spray oil and put it on. My car now will idle when hot. Doing pretty good but still has miss to it on acceleration….I think it is injectors. I will check,…try to back flush see does any good…improves pattern. The car had set for 2+ years….gas is old….probably need to check all ignition (cap, rotor). Maybe fuel system cleaner. FYI….company called Conklin makes the best I have ever used….name is 4-Power ( gas and a diesel version of it) great stuff

You can try but I can tell you that no FLUSH is going to repair the CIS-injecrors, just replacement. And they are not expensive.

@@mercedeske Bosch injectors for my Jetta are about 70-90 ea. here….so Im going to give it a try. I agree, I had much rather have new ones and I may yet. Hopefully by back flushing them I can get them to act right long enough to make sure that is truly my issue. Trying to not throw money at it….that dont work to good on these. I also still need to check my idle air bypass valve and idle boost valves….I dont believe they are working…..no clicks

@@mercedeske how much are the injectors there normally? Sorry, currently dont know the Bosch or vw p/n….but I can find out.

@@royhudson8416 They're are not expensive. For Mercedes I have been paying about 100 euros for a set of 4 injectors.

…the squealing I was hearing and thought injectors must be diaphragm pressure regulator cause pulled injectors and jumped pump….none leaking….but only 1 seemed to be fogging as it should…..thats next

Great helpful vids thank you :) Why would my 190e 2.3-16 with KE-Jet suddenly die between gear changes? fully warm and not all the time? Cheers

Hi and cheers! Measure the mA on the EHA as you turn the ignition on, you should read 20mA. If that's okay then something could be wrong with the ECU. This is how it's done kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJbSe3uNeNqad6c

@@benstone5038 If that's okay, then check all the sensors and the idle control valve. Because it goes like this - the sensors tell the ECU about the engine and then the ECU creates the current required primarily for the EHA and ECU. What happens in your case the ICV(idle control valve) is not capable of staying open as you depress the accelerator, it closes fully and the car stalls. I know, I had the same issue as I put the stock ECU. The moment I replaced it with the newer version of the ECU the problem is gone. Greetings from Serbia!

@Fix your Mercedes Very helpful thanks, the ICU is also ne old stock but the flap flickers open and closed, which I do not think is normal. I think I have a working loom problem somewhere which would suggest no info being sent to the ECU.

@@benstone5038 You will have to check it. At first the lambda and the potentiometer, then the TPS if it closes as it should as well as the micro switch whether it's activated or not and the rest of the sensors.

Probaj da zameniš gumicu. Traži najmanju moguću, 1x1.5, i naglasi da bude otporna na benzin. Prosto je zameni.

Hey, i got w124 m102 2.0 ke jet and im having issue with high idle When i start the car rpm stays at 2000 and when i press accelerator pedal once it starts jumping from 1000-3000 even when im not touching the pedal.

I've tryed with multiple working ovp relays and not getting any changes. Is it possible that the problem is with the throttle flap sensor that it doesnt know its position?

Could be perhaps a worn-out potentiometer.
