What am I talking about?
My topic is the KE-Jetronic injection system which I try to demystify as much as I can.
For all of you to understand the system in brief - Developed in 1973 and being mounted into cars up to 1993 as it went in history. But why these to letters!?(KE) K(from German "kontinuierlich" meaning continuos, without interruption) the MECHANICAL injection system on which the fuel starts flowing from the fuel tank sucked by the FUEL PUMP and delivered to the FUEL DISTRIBUTOR which sends fuel to the INJECTORS while the majority of it flows through the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR through its return line back to the fuel tank again. The letter E(electronic) has to mark the electronic sensors (the developement starting from early eighties) which had to inform the ECU about the current state of the engine so that the ECU(Electronic Control Unit) then could create current signal in mAmp(miliampers) and send it to four crucial components for the system - the EHA(the electro-hydraulic actuator,a unit consisting of a magnet, an electromagnet and a baffle plate) which had to fine tune the engine in each of its phases, the ICV(the idle control valve), the unit which was predicted for the engines perfect idle, the X11(the diagnostic socket) where the duty cycle(the ideal mixture) was adjusted and the X11/4(the code reader) - the socket which from any codes were read if present using an OBD1 scanner.
An extraordinary injection system which could be fully repaired in your own garage using a multimeter and a pressure gauge only for its fine tuning, together with some common tools.

I bought new one on Amazon… they are very cheap, ans still produce… other method to know if it is the fuel pump relay, you measure the voltage at the pump under the car, often more accessible than the relay…

Jag har provat och bytat saker coolat sensor oxygen sensor coold start valv, bilen startar fort men stannar 2ggg en 3gg hostar och hackar men sedan börjar den fungera detta när den är kall. Kan det vara bågot i bensin reläet port 87v eller tf men startar bilen om dessa felen är i reläet? MvhJonny

There is one more problem. In vehicles with LPG installed, this relay is faulty. (faulty installation) Capacitors inside can do their job erratically. When I opened the box, I smelled a strong burning smell and changed the capacitors inside. I could not find a procedure to test this box with electricity on the ground. But as you mentioned in the video.. If the fuel pump is working, the relay box is intact.

So far, I understand, I can check a relay using a multi voltmeter? And you just need to know which pin is + and - from the Stromkreis ? Ask because I just bought a 124T 300TE from 1989. With this model I am to able to blink the troublecodes and can measure the errors only by using an oszillograph. Stay safe and blessings from Germany

Thanks a lot. I can not explain all the relays that were made but the principle is the same - you have pin 30 - voltage supply from the battery, 31 - the ground, 15 - key ignition ON, 50 - the starter, TD - the RPM signal and now the 87. The 87 is a + for the fuel pump, 87V for the cold start valve, 87k - kick down, TF - the temperature signal, there was 87S/H - a heating element for lambda. As for the fuel pump relay - it must receive the TD signal, 30, 31, 15 in order to work. Without TD for example the relay is DEAD and therefore the cold start valve, kick down, heating element for lambda, fuel pump.The most simple way to test your relay is to remove it and to bridge contacts 7&8 - if the pump starts working and you manage to start the car without it and you can't do it with the relay, then "kaputt". I believe I gave all the instructions in the video how to check the relay using a common multimeter only. Check for the continuity as well as for the voltage and it's always battery voltage the nominal value, 11-14V. I hope I could answer the question as you expected. Have no garage or dry place to work on my car 😢 Meanwhile, do a lot of research, testruns, put a good car toolbox together from tools laying around the house, order parts, liquids and material I need to prep my Benz for up comming car camping trips in the futur. The fuel pump relay is outrageously expensive. If mine ever fails I'm going to rewire and use one from Maplin.

I had a starting issue on my 190E 1.8 manual 1992 and i pulled out the relay and someone bridged the two pins together but the pump still doesnt work , any ideas ? Is the relay completely kaput ?

Would it be the fuel pump then ? If you jump the relay and the fuel pump stays on but still won't start? I got spark and it does start when I spray starting fluid but then dies shortly after still.

Intenta traducirla por favor Sospecho que el inyector de arranque en frío de mi coche no funciona y según el esquema eléctrico que tengo los dos terminales de conexión parten de la centralita principal. Gracias a ti. Me voy hacer el video. El rele operaciona la válvula de arranque en la manera que el sensor de refrigerante manda el señal si la temperatura es mas o menos de 60 grados. Si este es el caso, el sensor manda el señal en rele y rele hace corriente en la valvula. El mejor metodo es desmontar la valvula y poner el frasco debajo. Arranque el motor mientras está frío y si ve el patrón de rociado, la válvula está bien. Hágalo un par de veces y luego observe la válvula durante un minuto. No debe gotear. Si es así, tendrá que reemplazar la válvula.

No, just the car will change timing in retard(late). Anyway, the best solution is to turn the car off or if you have a wire to bridge the contacts on the sensor and make the fan run constantly.

Hi Another excellent video. Can you please help. Trying to inspect me Fuel Relay but it will not release from its cradle. It seems as if the pins are stuck in the holes. There are two small clips on either side of the relay and they clear the cradle but the relay will still not detach. Any advise?

Try bit by bit carefully until it's out, wiggle it a bit and pull at the same time. I wouldn't advise you to use WD40.

Hi Still trying to get to the bottom of a shaky idle in my 260E, M103. Can I ask, I did a fuel pressure test connecting 8 and 7 on the fuel relay. In 50 seconds it produced nearly 2 litres of fuel. I thought the specification was 1 litre? Is this normal ? I tried to do the test at the ignition but when I switched key on I could hear a motor but no fuel came out. I then connected the fuel relay terminals and got 2 litres. Love your utube videos. Keep up the great work

Thanks. Your pump is in a great state. A new fuel pump has to deliver 2l per minute.

My w201 m102.962 -86 starts but dies instantly after startup. (Worked perfect before, maybe little rich) Fuel pump primes before start. but can it be that it wont start again when engine starts and hence dies.

Pomagaj prijatelju, crkla mi benzin pumpa nakon 100km od ugradnje NOVE!!! zasto je ponovo crkla? sta da pogledam, inace auto tesko pali vruc a hladan dobro, a sto se tice snage i primanja gasa kontra, kad je hladan nevuce trokira prducka dok se nezagreje i kad se zagreje ide dobro ali onda dugo vergla... Sta da radim sta da kontrolisem, sutra idem opet da kupim pumpu

Otkud znaš da ti he crkla pumpa? Jel si proverio akumulator goriva? To je u 90% slučaja krivac za loše zagrejano paljenje.

@@mercedeske Pa necuje se nista kad dam kontakt, ispitacu je jos sa zivom strujom sa akumulatora, ili da prespojim one kontakte na releju za pumpu pa proverim, ali mislklim da je crkla, ali zasto je crkla brate posle 100km

@@aleksandar4986 Vidi, izvuci relej pumpe za gorivo i prespoji kontakte. Akobse tada ne javi, onda je crkla. Proveri sve - jel su kontakti dobro spojeni. Jel auto pali sa pumpom?

Hello, I purchased a new gas pump relay for my 1987 Mercedes 300 sel. But the vehicle's relay connection cables were dislodged and cut. Is there a diagram of which color wire connects to where? How do I connect them back to their correct place?
