Note at 5:31 to make sure that you put either very little or no copper grease on the plugs. There is a debate on the internet about whether to use it or not. Plugs like these NGKs already have a coating on them, so it's not really necessary. Yes, these Mercedes have aluminum heads that expand and contract with heat differently than the plugs and have long intervals, but NGK does not specifically recommend it.

Great DIY. I did my spark plugs in the M113K the same way, reused the coil wires. Good idea to inspect the wires connectors inside boots that attach to spark plug top and coil carefully for any electrical corrosion. I replaced one wire with crud in it similar to a battery post. Great post!

This is the most beautiful E55 I've seen on KZbin. I like the minimalist look, not overdone with a look that's in your face. A snowflake from the outside, beast from the inside. I can't afford to own a petrol Mercedes engine for now, but I am happy with my W211 E280 redesign (3222cc/177hp). Great video but I would like to add one more critical step: After you clean the debris out of the spark plug holes, crack the spark plugs loose and spray a small amount of WD-40 around the spark plugs and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. I did not do this when I changed my plugs and the result was nearly catastrophic. The spark plug threads that are closest to the pistons had a lot of carbon built up on them and as I unscrewed them the carbon made one plug seize up in the head. This only happened on one plug but the result was that I had a spark plug completely seized half way out of the head. I thought I had ruined the whole head. As a last-ditch effort, I sprayed some WD-40, let it sit, and then slowly worked the plug back and forth until it finally started coming out. Yes, the engine smoked a bit on startup, but I nearly ruined my head by not doing this step. I'm sure it was a freak occurrence, but it's easy to prevent. Thanks

Copper grease increase corrosion process ... of course need oxygen and some moist but ... thread is long enough to allow good conduction of electricity and made good quality of sparks. Personally will not use grease, will thighten with max. 28NM avoid troubles in future.
@remip9996 жыл бұрын
Excellent job ! However, you don't need to put copper grease on the threads of the spark plugs because there are manufactured with specific treatment in order to avoid rust. The grease will collect dust over time.

Copper with aluminium engine heads made a power cell and corrosion. Do not use it. If you need grease (not cecessary) use special high temperature, low resistance without copper. Sparks must are screwed up to max.25nm of torque. Do not exceed it avoid destroy thread.
