Those of you that have hard time writing a new VIN to donor ECU here's a simple tip open donor ECU (vin coding) dump file in Hxd manually edit the VIN save and write that file.

Thanks Tim you never stop impressing me with your tools especially the Abritus and the carprog. I think I will have to buy the special function for the Mercedes. Great work keep educating me.

Great Video......I was debating using Abrites with DAS or wait for the adapter and use ACDP to clone Mercedes DMEs. This video has given me the confidence to use Abrites for this job....Thank you for sharing Tim!!!!

I have tried to use ACDP and failed.... Abrites makes it easy... It also is awesome at making an EIS for a car when the EIS is gone... Did a W220 last week, the EIS was missing and there was no key... I grabbed a used EIS, read the key password, , then readkey data from the ME, read the SSID from the cluster, both on the bench, put everything back in car, connected OBD, read EIS, clicked on Virgin, AVDI virgined the EIS, now I personalized it with the file I read from the ME, it asked for an SSID, put in SSID I read from cluster, it asked for a key password, I used the password from the EIS I just virginized, remember, key password is only in EIS and Keys, made a key and Viola, the car started.... customer couldn't believe it... mercedes explained they had to tow car to dealer, then order EIS, then 2 keys, then pay $300.00 and hour to have it installed....

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Tim. I have AVDI with the full Mercedes suite. I'm trying to clone a ME9.7 M272 just like what you're doing in this video. Everything works great except for writing the coding. After I write the coding from the original ECU to the donor ECU the VIN does not change. It stays the same. I have the latest software update. I downloaded it on 12/24/22. Any ideas that may help?

First, are you activating before you write the coding?? when you activate it locks the module to the vin it has.. also, AVDI is having issues writing vins nowadays... try going up above to the line for the ME, open it, go to activations or adaptations and look at the vin, overtype with the new vin and hit write values... sometimes you will see hiroeglyphiocs.. if so, the vin has changed..

@@timtracy9442 I tried it before activating, after activating, and every combination there is. No go. I watched your video of the ME2.8 where you did what you described above. Only, I’m working on the bench. I tried it anyway, but it didn’t take. I’m thinking it’s AVDI. I’m about to make my own cable to rule out a bad cable. I doubt it’s the cable, but I have the tools and the 120ohm resistor for the CAN H CAN L. Might as well give a shot. Thanks Tim.

@@mercedesbenzspecialist well, if it won't change the vin on the bench, I would virgin, then personalize, then try and change in the car... if that didn't work, I would breakout Autel, or Xentry.. as long as you don't activate it, you can still change things like the VIN.. I have opened more support tickets about this than you would believe, 3 are still open waiting on the developer to respond.. Used to be great at doing these, but now they want to go after newer models.. which are taken back to the dealer here... we get to work on 10-20 year old cars, the new ones have warranties or the owners have money, and they go back to the dealer.. RANT over....

Great video. I have a 2010 ML350 Bluetec that blew the engine and I am swaping a petrol engine. Can you encode the VIN from the Bluetech CR6P ECM into a ME9.7 petrol ECM and disable IMMO with this setup?

No, you can virgin the ME and then code the VIN into it, but the vin only causes issues with the traction control and brakes.. the rest of the car doesn't care what the vin is in the ME.. As for the DAS data, as I said, you can virgin the ME, and then write the DAS data to it from the EIS, but you are going to have to do SCN coding on a few modules to not freak out the rest of the car...

@@timtracy9442 thanks for the great info. Would you have an idea of the modules that would have to be addressed? ABS, transmission, EIS, EVL? I would imagine all the DPF, Adblue SCR etc could just be unplugged.

It depends on which version the key is... With MBE, you can reprogram ver 51 and 57, with AVDI, you can reprogram ver 57... You have to open key and remove NEC chip and solder onto test board, or use a clamshell... Much easier and cheaper to buy BE key from HKlock.com... Use Amy as your salesperson, she is great...

I don't think so... I have only been able to put the module in the car, then delete data from it, then program it to the car with Autel.... but,,,, if you have a new module, autel is awesome at updating the software and then programming it into the car... When AVDI fails at programming a new module, Autel does it with ease...

the abrites your using is a factory tool. you have to be very busy to afford the tool i know nothing about a clone tool thanks for the video

The Abrites is not a factory tool... But yes, it is expensive.. But in comparison, a Snapon diag tool is more expensive and does nothing but diagnostics... I am a mobile Locksmith who also programs modules for a lot of shops, and it is fun to show up, pull out AVDI and do things even the factory tool won't do... I am in the Mercedes TRP system, and the local dealer actually loves it.. They send me modules and also other shops that are working on mercedes vehicles. If you have a mercedes with a bad Inteligent Shift Module, (ISM) such as a 2000 S class, the new shifter is $1,150.00 + what the dealer wants to program it into your car, if you can find a good used one, or even a new one, AVDI can virginize and personalize it to the car.. No towing to the dealer.. So $5,200.00 for Abrites isn't bad.. And when you add in VAG, watch out, your phone won't quit ringing... If you get a chance, look at the abrites site either WWW.ABRITES.com or if you are in the US WWW.ABRITESUSA.com I am not a salesman for Abrites, but I have made good money with it... BTW, the clone is called FVDI, do a search you will find it...

@@dannynelson2763 That makes sense.... I have peolpe call or email me wanting me to help them get there FVDI to do the same things as AVDI, and I tell them there is no way to do that... They tell me how AVDI is a clone of FVDI and if it can do it, so should FVDI... I ask how much they paid for FVDI, and they say $200.00... I ask if it is usual for a clone to be 10 times the price of the original????? Ahhhhh.... As for lining up the work, I am in a large metropolitan area, and I have never advertised, and some weeks I wish I could sleep in a little... BTW, I started with FVDI and did enough VW's and Audis to be able to purchase AVDI...

Hello Sir, first thanks for your video. I want to ask you a question, is it mandatory whenever you want to adapt an ECU to use the same part number or for example when I adapt an ECU from a 272 can I use any number that starts with 272?

I would stick with the same part number... There are all kinds of variations where the last 3 digits will be whether it is a 4 or v6 or an * cylinder car... I have had shops that went by the adage, close is good enough, and when they cranked the engine, it backfired and blew out parts... Not worth the hassle...

Hello Juan. In my experience, in case you need to replace your M272 ECU, it doesn't need to have that exact number with the existing one. You only need to consider which M272 ECU you are using on. There are 2 types of ECU M272, single CAN dan double CAN. The double CAN ECU can be noticed by the small part number in the middle of label. It will always shows A0034467740. Thus regardless the part number, as long as the number is A0034467740 it can be used for all M272 Double CAN engine. Here some lists for M272 Double CAN engine : M272 W204 C280 C300 C350, M272 W212, M272 W221. Cmiiw

I am not completely sure where the data is stored in the ECU... Abrites makes it easy, it reads the das data, then virginizes it, or personalizes it to the car... If you are talking about the older 2.0 DME's, it is in the medium size chip... With those older ones, we remove the chip, read the data with Xprog, then run that data thru the Abrites dump tool, it gives you the data, and also virginizes it...

@@bloodmotorsports I think the data is in the main chip... That is why we are able to read it without tearing the case apart.. You can buy a Ktag and an adapter and read and virginize these for cheap... uobd2.com, type in ME9.7 in the search box...

you will not be able to do either without opening key and removing NEC chip... If it is a factory key, either ver 51 or ver 57, you have to open key, remove NEC chip, solder onto test board and read and write data to it... You can not virginize any factory key thru IR...

Avdi does not support read coding on ME9.7 8Zyl. Only fbs data

Well, seeing as FVDI is a chinese clone of a 5 year old AVDI, what do you think?? Remember the old saying, you get what you pay for.... I am not saying that FVDI is bad, I am sure it has it's uses... But that being said, if you actually watch the video, you will see how AVDI goes online to calculate the data to make the ME virgin... I have yet to see FVDI do that... Not putting FVDI down, but it would be really hard to sell a tool for a couple hundred dollars, and then run a secure server that can calculate mercedes data files...
