@@akujude the V6 engine is used widely in that generation of Mercedes. Plenty of affordable parts and usually well taken of by previous owners.

The 1st gen ML was not the first import luxury SUV... it was actually built in the US. For luxury SUVs/crossovers the Range Rover definitely had it beat by a few decades... though I digress

The first Generation almost bankrupt the Company. Maybe that’s why it was monumental..lol. For the record Nissan Murano and Lexus came out first with untraditional boxy design.

Lexus will definitely be the more reliable option but may not have the same premium feel you'll get with the Mercedes

Here in the UK the Lexus RX seem to rust quite badly underneath. The Merc ml petrols engines have issues, the diesels are pretty solid but like all modern turbo diesels they have glow plugs, swirl flaps, high pressure fuel pumps, injectors, DPF, egr and ofcourse turbos to maintain.

I am semi retired and run a lawn mowing business so I tow a 3500lbs trailer around my neighborhood route. I’m ditching my old 1500 plow truck/tow vehicle and want an SUV for the daily driving I do in the winter. Do you think the Mercedes ML’s are as “tough” as say the USA GMC envoy, or jeep grand cherokee? I don’t care about the country club appearances, I’m a workman who just wants a decent older SUV (2006 to2010)to go 8 years for me, it’s going to get dirty!!

i bought a 2008 with 200k miles!! i have no engine problems and currently at 275k. bought in june 2021 so i put a lot of miles in. better than i expected for a 2008 with 200k miles on it.

Yes great car until you find out about the balance shaft issue in the 350 - thousands of dollars later...

Not correct. Beginning in 2009, the w164 chassis was offered in 2wd (rear-drive). None were ever offered in 4x4. They were either 2WD (beginning in 2009), 4Matic (AWD), and 4Matic w/optional center locking differential (very difficult to find).
