Me too:) unfortunately the machine shops are overwhelmed with work so i have to wait...this week i was told the engine was ready. Only work needed: honing the cylinders. Everything else is still in STD, or as good as new. Mating face of the block will get done, cylinder head as well, all the valves and seats will be regroundm new piston rings and ready to run. That kind of machining/build quality is simplky gone these days....

@@heritagesteel1976 How much do vehicles with those engines typically sell for over there? are any available with the older mechanical fuel pump? reason I ask is with a manual transmission and a large hill you can bump start them in a pinch. not sure if that works with the electric pumps

I have a 1987 300d and 1987 300sdl both with the om603 turbo diesel. Both are great running and driving cars. I will never own another car unless It is pre 1990 mercedes diesel.

Hi there. I am going to check out a 300 SDL next week. They are pretty rare over here in Portugal, the ones you do find were imports from portuguese owners in the states/Canada who loved them so much and brought them back with them. I did own two and those were the EPITOME of Mercedes built quality. Most say the engine is underpowered. I feel its okay and you get decent MPG that with a 560 you can only dream of. Of course performance wise two worlds apart.

Hi mate I'm just about to start a fully rebuilt 606 it's been built with redline assembly lube but been sat for around 6 months. I was just going to crank with glow plugs out to get the extra speed and hope it builds pressure quite quickly. Does this sound ok. Or would you prefill oil filter housing and cooler lines . Or do you have any other tips thanks

I just started an upper end rebuild on my 99 E300 TD 606. I plan on utilizing these videos as reference. Thanks a ton, and if I have any questions, would it be ok to ask?

Do you mind sharing where you get your parts from and more importantly which aftermarket manufacturers you trust best for parts that Mercedes doesn't produce any longer? thanks!

its really a hit and miss these days. Lemforder used to sell really good quality parts, now china made.(not all the stuff, but quite a lot). Really cant tell anymore. I am still going with Lemforder or original Mercedes if available.

Greetings from Bulgaria! I've got a w124 E250 with OM605.911 engine and I am currently doing a full rebuild and I am about to install a turbo on it, and if you can give me some hints, it would be much appreciated. My goal is 250 bhp and I would like to be certain on what turbo exactly should I use and which fuel pump elements should I use in my fuel pump. A lot of different information on the internet about that and mechanics say different things as well... I would love to hear your opinion. Thanks in advance.
@heritagesteel1976Ай бұрын
hi, this is a non turbo variant of the 605. The pistons are not oil cooled from below, there are no spray nozzles in the block. Bolting a turbo on is easy, but you will fry the engine in no time. Get a 605.960 to begin with...

Do you know what the big differences are on these engines between the electronic ink pump vs the manual? Can the electronic be converted to a manual? I’m very new to these engines and they are hard to come by in the US
@heritagesteel19767 ай бұрын
you can use the OM 603 mechanical pump from the previous model it will run just fine. Converting an EDC pump to mechanical is out of my leage but i think its not possible i would say.

@@heritagesteel1976 thanks a million boss. What is the average rate these engines go for in Portugal? Do you know anything about importing one to the US?

i've rebuilt 5 or 6 of these engines by now. Never seen a snapped head bolt. I've seen snapped sockets when trying to tighten them, but never a snapped head bolt. The worst part for me is: this happend during assembly and they just let it slide...

Man you have no clue about anything on engines. You can you silicon if it calls for it and not putting on too much. You can turn up a diesel and not have it smoke also.
@heritagesteel1976 Жыл бұрын
hi. feel free to use as much silicon as you like on any engine. I am not a fan and never will be, as long as you use high quality joints and seals no need to smear extra stuff on. Regarding smoking diesels: i dont like them its just unburnt fuel. Of course you can tune up a diesel without smoke and that is the way to go, at least for me. What i said is i dont like smokey diesels...i also said: to each his own. Its a very "personal" decision.

Man, I've been working on cars since I can remember, with my dad. Work, college... Health problems at home, Today cars are being demonized and these lithium bombs with wheels... Yuck. Today I would have taken courses and would be working with these wonders, but we never know when they will no longer be able to run. At times like these I wonder why I wasn't born American. Anyway. It's going to become a hobby. I'm Brazilian. 🚙🚗🚐
