Mercedes self parking package with 360 camera 2024 2023 2022 2021

In this video I am going to show you how to use the self parking feature. The system is called Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC.The car I am using today also has the 360 camera which means that it can also find marked car park spaces after you have driven past them.
This video is relevant for the following cars:
- Mercedes C-Class 2022 2023 2024
- Mercedes GLC 2023 2024
- Mercedes EQE 2022 2023 2024
- Mercedes EQS 2022 2023 2024
- Mercedes S-Class 2021 2022 2023 2024
- Mercedes-AMG SL 2022 2023 2024
When using the self parking feature the Driver needs to remain responsible to monitor the parking process and surroundings at all times. You can cancel it at anytime by grabbing and moving the steering wheel. Of course you can still just park manually.
2020 onwards some new cars will not have this feature due to law changes by the United Nations. Also due to chip shortages this feature may not also be available. If you need to double check then please contact your local dealership.
I have also made a summary sheet of what features the car has. This summary sheet will not be up to date due to all manufacturers struggling with the chip shortage so some features and options will change. Well just to let you know It is now just over a week in from collection and am absolutely loving my new C200 with AMG & Premium lines. It's an absolute joy to drive - how can you not be comfortable having seats with so many adjustments. Thought my E250 was pretty well appointed but no comparison. So much new tech to learn. Loads of safety features. Plus lots of comfort features like moving the steering wheel and seat to make it easier to get in and out. She even reminds me not to forget my phone!!! I could go on for ages.

The issue with these systems (valid for all brands I ever drove) is that they are: a) horribly slow/inefficient, especially the reverse bay park was so bizarre, the car could have turned into the bay in one sweep. Alternatively should have only driven forward maximum once to reposition itself. b) only work in large spaces, where any decent driver is able to park the car with eyes closed. I would only be impressed if it would park into a spot with 40cm clearance both ends, you know as it is in the real world 😅. c) the way the car steers the wheels in total standstill is just awful driving technique. Everyone who learned to drive before servo/power steering was available will know why. Great vid demonstrating how it works!

I think I can forgive it because it is doing allot of calculations including not trying to kill any pedestrians lol. I think I would probably use the parallel parking feature because that is fast and accurate.

Dr Saahb I subbed :) I’ve always loved the black and chrome look, but sadly they also aren’t offering chrome trim in America if you get the amg appearance package (if you get amg package, you have to get night package, which is black trim not chrome) so I went for black on neva grey interior & every option!

A lot of software went into that auto-park but if you can park at all, you're better. For one, it won't head in to a space. For two, someone behind you will grab your space before auto-park identifies it. I suppose there are some circumstances where you'd find it useful, like maybe a really tight parallel park, but imo they might have done better with a remote motion,, as in parking then finding that someone parked just inches away from your driver's door. Being able to start the car and move it backwards with the key fob so that you can get in it would be very useful. There may be something somewhere that is perfect, but most things are not. Auto-park is kind of fun to use.

I usually use the system to parallel park because it is really good. Mercedes could introduce an app so the car could come out of tight spaces but for some reason they pulled it from the market I think. They will probably re-introduce in the near future.

Hi Paula. The car I did the video on it did not have the feature. When I asked the Sales Executive this is due to the chip shortage and it was not included in the brochure. All manufacturers are struggling with the shortage.

Hello, thank you for the video. I have a question: My brand new GLB will come nowadays. It has "8B6- Active Parking Assist with cross-traffic (UN R79)" different from previously. What does it mean? Namely, am I gonna be able to use this system both perpendicular and parallel spaces?

I think your GLB will be able to park itself for both parallel and between cars. I think it should also be able to detect obstacles while doing the manoeuvre. However for safety reasons you would need to have your foot over the brakes and ready to take the steering wheel encase of an emergency. Hope this helps. Don’t ever hesitate to ask your After Care Service at your local dealership to double check if the safety systems will or are working correctly. Graet vid..I've just bought a brand UK new c class 220d AMG Line Premium. I can't get the wireless smart charger to work and I can only find one usb port. I've looked where they should be but theyre not there? Ther car is only 3 weeks old. Any ideas

Have you tried taking the case off the phone to see if that is blocking the charge signal? Also place the phone on its back. There is one USB C next to the wireless charging only. This will most likely increase when there is a better supply of “chips”.

I’m new to the Mercedes. I do have have a 2015 C class automatic. How do I correctly park the car. I noticed that when I stop and turnoff the engine the car itself automatically engage the handbrake and the gear shift in to P. Is this correct ? OR do I need to use the old technique i.e stop the car, brake, put into N, hand brake , brake again and put into P? Thanks

Lovely car your car. Check out my How to use the features of the C-Class 2022 where I show how to engage park, then switch off the car, then the handbrake engages itself but I recommend to check that the car is in P and the handbrake is on before you open the door. Thank you but one point is unclear, apart from being ready to brake in hazardous situation, does the park assist apply brake automatically in its calculated manoeuvres? Also if you interrupt the park assist by putting your hands in the steering wheel, would you be able to tell it to resume parking?

Thanks for the comment. I do mention in the video at 2:04 that the car will put itself into Park and then the handbrake will come on. You can also see the handbrake has been applied in the instrument cluster. The last question is a good question. I will double check that if you were to take control and then want to resume self parking. I don’t think the car will be able to do that but I can see this working in cars in the next 5-7 years with cars becoming more autonomous.

hehe, i love the system, used it for years, but that bay parking at 4:30 was horribly inefficient - especially considering that it was parking backwards. Basically the easiest way to park a car. 70 seconds while blocking the street significantly - a good driver needs 15-20 seconds for such a wide spot.

I can swear my Passay and Q7 3.otfsi (at 07.55 on your video). are calibrated to turn on lnside the white lines and not cut them. Why do yoyu think it's this way with the merc? Should it not reverse in a way that it doesn't cut the parking lines? What if there was a car parked there? Please let me know your thoughts

Thanks for the comment. I did think about this recently when using the same system in an A-Class facelift model. The system can park between cars. I guess the engineers figured why force the car to pretend there are cars. The system can see obstacles such as people walking in the way of the car and it should stop and wait till they have moved away from the cars path. Then it will resume parking.

Very unlikely. The system is supposed to use the lines on the road or park between cars. The system might work if it thinks the walls between the entrance of the garage is a car or a line but I would not recommend it. They may introduce an app in the future which you could purchase through Mercedes Me account where the car can be driven backwards on an app while you are outside controlling it from your phone. You could even bring it out of the garage.

If this is an Australian version of glc300 2024 model, as i know couple of my friends didn't receive ambient lighting in vents and other parts. Although they had ambient lighting plus as standard feature

Thanks for the comment. The car in this video is the C-Class. In the UK we no longer get the ambient lights in the vents for the GLC (which could change in the future). I think allot of other countries have the same issue too. Let us know if your friend was supposed to have ambient lights in their car?

@DrSaahb based on the website and few of Australian KZbin channels on the first she was interested to see the ambient lights all over which they call it as 894 ambient light plus. But then this was not specifically told to her that it is not included. Some are saying it was semi conductor issue and head office says you were charged less and it can't be retrofitted. Absurd and deceiving promotions. If you open Australian official mercedes Benz KZbin you will see the ambient lights all over and no disclaimer. It's anyway a 10 month old video and was shot in Musgrave studios Melbourne.

Yes it can. When you select a bay then you should get an arrow option on the bay you have chosen like at 7:23 of my video. Then just select the same bay and the image of the car will rotate. If your car doesn’t have 360 camera then this might not work.

I was the same when I first wanted to use the system so I practiced using the systems in a quiet area which built my confidence. I now use it when I need to park quickly. Try parking in a quiet area and see how you get on.

Some of the features like parking in a bay, you would need the 360 camera option. But parallel parking and bay parking between cars can be done if the car has parking sensors. If you see the blue “P” sign on your instrument cluster (dashboard) then your car can self park.

Sorry I accidentally deleted your reply. If you install a USB memory stick then it should be able to take photos and video footage I think. Never used it so can’t confirm. Might be worth trying before you buy a separate camera. It should also double up as a dash camera. If you do purchase a memory stick, make sure it is setup as FAT32. Hope that helps and let me know what you decide to do?

I am not sure because I have never used this feature. Might be worth pushing the car (taking care not to damage your car) from the front, back and sides to see if the cameras record anything.

Im in america. I have all the same camera views and the tab with parking assist. Ive never used it. There is an option in the settings that has something to do with parking maneuvering assist or something like that in it. Maybe i should try it out. I may have it and just never used it. Park assist isnt in the build sheet. Along with a few other things. The detailed build specs on these vehicles are very vague and limited and i see they tend to leave things out because im discovering things that my vehicle can do that wasnt mentioned on my build sheet.

Yes if you have the same options as me then you can use the self parking feature. If you follow the steps I have done in the video then you will not have any problems using it. Top tip, practice it on a quiet road so you can take your time using the feature. Let me know how you get on 😊

Parking spaces that are angled, such as \ \ vs | |. P.S. I didn’t immediately understand what “Bay” parking is. I see now it’s British for perpendicular parking (vs. parallel), such as in a shopping center parking lot as shown. That’s a new one on me!

Thanks for the comment. C-Class is much lower compared to a Mazda CX5 because it is a sporty Saloon so you driving position is much closer to the ground. The Mazda CX5 is a SUV so you get the higher driving position and softer ride. Sounds like you should consider the Mercedes-Benz GLC if you want a higher driving position and softer ride.

@@DrSaahb Yes getting out of the C-Class is like getting out of a coffin on the floor. I battle every time to get out of the C-Class. Also, my right knee leans on the right inner door handle and it has sharp edges where the plastic joins along a strip making my knee very sore. I have tried adjusting the seat. I will have to tape a big sponge on the inner door handle to stop it from hurting my knee. Who designed this rubbish?

​@@DrSaahb 6'4" 194 CM I am tall and the seat goes back far enough but even with adjustment the right side of my knee rests on the LED strip on the door handle inside and it has sharp edges on both sides of the strip. I am surprised they still make the C-Class. they should make the SUV half the price. I can't wait to drive a Mazda CX5 again which is so much better and way more comfortable and better design plus doest even notice speed humps. Ford announced plans to discontinue all of its sedans surprised Mercedes is not following.

Thanks for the reply. For your height a SUV would be the best choice. Most compact saloons would not be suitable for you because you are tall. Most manufacturers are building more SUV’s because they are building more electric cars rather than ICE cars. Most electric cars have very big batteries and for packaging reasons and cost, most of them look really tall. Therefore the best looking electric cars are mostly SUV,s except the Porsche Taycan (but that costs an arm and a leg) 😂

According to French standards the examples are irrealistic easy ... Parking pack is useful when parking is tough otherwise it's just a gadget.

LOL I was so shocked when I went to Paris for the first time and how some people do not stress when parking and hitting their cars into other cars in really tight spaces. I do love using it especially when I am abit tired. Makes driving effortless.

But it Is possible to do it even when the car does not have 360 deg camera, right? Here in India, the 360 option isn’t there. But I hope my c200 will still be able to park, coz I’m not that confident lol

You can ask your Sales person to confirm if your car has the feature. I am not sure if India has the same equipment as the UK. If you do not want to ask the sales person then look at the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, if you see the “P” logo in a blue box when you are in gear and driving less than 10mph, then this means your car can park itself. Let me know how you get on please?

You should not have a driving license if you cannot park in bay parking spot.

Its a nice feature to have and should never be relied on for example the driver should be aware of their surroundings as they normally would and also have their foot over the brake encase.

I think it's too harsh to suggest people who use parking assist should not have a drivers licence. I think it's a great feature to help you get in and out of a tight spot. Looking at the bay parking at my grocery store, I see a lot of cars parked askew or too far left or right forcing others to also park side-stepped.

I’ve been in bay parking where the neighboring cars have blocked me being able to open my doors. This feature would be handy to get the car out of a tight spot like that.
