Another very good video, I was just thinking about the alarm as a reason for draining the battery, that happened in my Chrysler crossfire but the alarm was in different locations and to be honest from one side your new location is convenient but from the other side the original location was designed to make it difficult to turn it off for a thief so there is a pros and cons of the new location. The other thing is the state of the batteries. After 20 years they are probably dead so I’m going to replace them because as I mentioned they are probably draining the main batteries. Best regards

Thank you so much for your generosity it's people like you that is the reason that I do what I do I'm only a one man band I love to help others especially as you said with our beautiful old Mercedes. If you find that the alarm is still not sounding it's probably due to the worn out batteries that are wrapped in a green heat shrink inside the alarm I will be doing a video soon on how to replace those as they would have been in my car for 20 years now. it all started when I was a teen and got a Mercedes 190E, I couldn't afford to go to garages to get things done, so as there was no internet back then, I asked questions to other people, bought a Haynes manual and just taught myself :)

@@maganimal there isn't any sound normally when you open and close door from alarm. The batteries are inside the alarm, you have to cut it open

Hi there, have you checked the airbox is not clogged where air enters the car through the vent? put some water in there and see if it drains out okay. If not it can go up and over in the passenger side cabin area. If you watch this vide its shown in it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3qaZ5qlg7CipMU

Hi Phil thanks for supporting and becoming a member by the way, it is great to know my vides are helping others. I will make sure I priorities my member questions first ! I think I replied in the comments, but to repeat, have a look at your passenger bonnet vent, then one that you can see into, it should be clear inside, this is the vent that goes into the car cabin. I had an issue with this vent filling up with water as the bottom drain was blocked. The water then goes over the bulkhead into the car and soaked my footwell. You need to watch the electrics behind the carpet and behind the subwoofer as there are main connections an fuses. Easier if you are not a mechanic, remove the last fuse 7,5 Ah, problem solved, except you don’t have a siren anymore. my batterie was drained in 3-4 days, now all is fine.

Will removing fuse not arm the car though?

and will the horn still work, cause this fuse is related to the siren and the hornes.

@@GrooveOn Just removed the fuse, it looks like it's working well, no more problem with the sirene (for the moment), and the hornes are still working.

My SL50 does not make any siren sounds, I bought a used one from the junkyard but still no siren sounds when I lock and unlock the doors, any recommendations please.

Ha, they never did! All Mercedes I've owned do not chirp, some have a function to turn on. But SLs are not supposed to chirp when locking. I have seen others ask the same question, mainly from USA,

Hi, if you pull the fuse for the siren, will it prevent the system from sleeping and thus contributing to the battery drain?

It's a great question, I have removed the siren on another mercedes I had and the car locked and behaved as normal

Hi there, I'm pretty sure it's still on the left, despite what side the steering wheel is in. Is your battery on the right side as you look at the engine like my video? If i have a look for the wiring harness going through rubber bung 👍

watched you video and was very informative. I have a 2003 sl500 aux battery goes dead after 8 to 12 days. Battery is new from MB. Did a draw test and was drawing .012 ma on aux battery . I keep looking at the alarm siren as being a problem because of the low draw, thinking the alarm was coming on at times. I cannot make the siren go off nor do I see any flashing lights, other then when I lock or unlock vehicle. I was curious what your thoughts might be. Thanks

So when i looked at my alarm my thought process was that do i really need to have an audible alarm? If it worked but wasn't making an audible sound then I could live with that however the alarm had moisture ingress and was causing it's to be triggered with the car indicators flashing. So when I did the video I thought if I can mount the alarm somewhere dry and it starts behaving itself then I will just leave it alone, if it didn't work it was easy to access and I would replace it with another used alarm online. To test your alarm siren and to see if it is drawing power and triggering the alarm to go off and flash your lights, try just disconnecting the module it will still work the car will still lock and if the car then behaves itself you know that the faults is 90% sure it's the alarm module siren

@@GrooveOnpretty sure mine is bad and is causing the battery to drain after just 3 days. No noise but sometimes I’ll see the lights flashing randomly

@@GoldenPants64 If you have an iCarsoft or something similar like Launch, you can see the trouble codes on the alarm, I have this issue as I need to change the internal batteries. Have you tried disconnecting the alarm ?
