Hi joe, The warning ‘this function may cause chip damage’ is this meaning if we break something while soldering. Or does it mean the procedure a risk in general?

It's both. EEPROM reading in-circuit carries risk of corruption or can possibly short the circuit board. Need to proceed with caution

After buying the IM608, and all the add ons with a new soldering iron and then a warning pops up that might render the entire system non addressable, I think I'll pass.
