Mercedes swap star bonnet emblem for flat badge - C class W203

This video shows how easy it is to switch from the standard mercedes star on the C Class W203 to the Mercedes badge found on the later versions of this model (W204, W205). I purchased the new bonnet emblem on ebay - it took just over a week to get from China to the UK.

I own a 1998 C-280. I just discovered that someone broke off the star and left it lying on the ground in front of my car. As far as I can tell it happened in the early morning hours. This is the second time that someone has vandalized my car out of pure spite. There's something about the star that puts a target on the car. I'm going to replace it with a flat badge instead. Unfortunately , it's just not worth trying to replace just to have a new "target" put back on the car. Just wish I could catch the person in the act...I would love to put that star where the sun doesn't shine...along with my boot.

Maicol.... when opting to change to this hood ornament style you will also upgrade to the AMG style grill that will have the large 3 star emblem... you can't have both.

I really like my hood ornament on my 03 c240 but I'm debating on whether or not to put on a flat badge on it because of people who like to vandalize peoples cars with ornaments. Fortunately I haven't had it happen to me yet. I feel like it's only a matter of time till it gets ripped off or stolen or broken.

What looks really good is if you stick this flag style badge on the hood and then convert the flat blade grille to one with the Mercedes star symbol. That's what I'm in the process of doing to mine.

I bought it from ebay. As far as I know, there's only one size as all merc cars seem to have the same hole cutout on the bonnet.

car wash rarely causes problems with the star, it is designed for that. You're saying that suddenly you saw and it wasn't there, right? Well, it was very probably a vandal that threw it and took it ... these emblems are very easy to steal, so I recommend the grill with the large emblem instead of this

@@eddard1 Exactly, the 3d emblem the truth is a vandal attractor and with the flat emblem one is calmer. as I told you before, if you want you can buy a grill with the big Mercedes emblem (like the newest ones) and it will give it a more modern and sporty touch. I've had two stars torn off the hood, one just the other day. I like the look of the star but it unfortunately creates a target for vandalism. By the way, my Mercedes is a 1998 C 280; not exactly an expensive newer car that would make someone envious...it's simply done out of spite.

@@paulr4784 It's not so much the cost of replacing the star but the damage that occurs to the hood of the car when the ornament is ripped from the socket; the surrounding area is slightly dimpled from the force used to break the star off. The irony is that I live in one of the nicest and most upscale cities in Florida!
