Being able to work on a automatic transmission should be considered art, great video, and the shop looks very nice.

My 722.9 is clunking between R to N to D and from D to N to R. Like there play or driveline slack in something. All things are leading to transmission related, any suggestions?

Interesting and obviously know your job- After watching your conductor plate video I see transmissions now are much more finicky regarding contamination and having very clean fluid necessary that older 'conventional' transmissions, all that extra efficiency comes with the price of not letting your fluid get old and dirty
@abyssalsoul62188 жыл бұрын
Nicely Done. Very Informative .Perhaps you could mention the driving symptoms that would necessitate a rebuild and which areas of the transmission produces the various faults. Thanks

Abyssalsoul621 I'll do another video with symptoms, although sometimes it's hard to pinpoint exactly the issue, you can have the same symptoms created by 5 different reasons
@abyssalsoul62187 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to respond. The symptom I have is this. If I accelerate to lets say 30mph and then back off due to traffic ahead I get a hard down shift , like being kicked in the rear. Happens now and again. No associated warning lights of any kind. I was just surprised when this occurred as no other automatic transmission vehicle that I drive did this.

Great work! Nice information/presentation of the 722.9. Love Mercedes and i will follow your channel :) Question! I´m an owner of a W211 E350 with transmission build 722906 00 304550, and it is shifting hard between 4-5 gear(or 5-6 can´t remember) when driving normal. Hard driving no problem at all, any suggestions? I´m planning to do a full service/oil exchange(Spec 236.14, 9L+), filter and so on, and do a new adaptive programming on it with my STAR Diag. Do you think this will work, or is this another common problem?

Hi there I wonder if anyone can help me I have just recently purchased a Mercedes ml 320d (w164) sport 2006 model and have had some very worrying issues with it. I purchased the vehicle from London and drove all the way home to Yorkshire over 240 miles and had no issues initially but the very next day whilst I was driving the ABS and ESP light come on a swell as a message warning that my DIFF was overheating and needs to cool down then I switched the car off and back on and the ABS warnings etc vanished then the following day the diff overheating message and abs/esp lights come back on whilst driving but more strangely I was driving uphill and the car was in drive and started revving high but was struggling up the hill the when i slowly reached the top it regained power and started to drive normal again then on the same day whilst on a flat road it again lost power and just revved up high and but would not really move much so I parked up and switched it off/on and it was ok. The following day I took it to a local independent garage who put it on a computer to diagnose it and he told me i had a faulty back ABS sensor faulty but he also told me I had a few other error codes to do with the gearbox so then he told me take it for a short test drive to see if the ABS light comes back on but as I reversed out of the garage this time my normally smooth transmission made a clunk noise when I put it into drive and similarly in reverse any way when i drove from the garage the vehicle once gain revved up high and did not really go anywhere so I had no choice but to park up but worryingly this time when i switched off/on it would go into drive/reverse ok but wouldn't respond when I pressed the accelerator it just revved high as if in neutral so in the end I had have it towed to my house. I have booked it into another independent to diagnose using a STAR machine but Im worried my Transmission might me knackered please can you advise me to what the issue could be. I thank you in advance for your input and advice.

rangzeb hussain first check or have your shop check the fluid level, it sounds as if you had low fluid level since you stated that going up a hill changed the dynamics of your driving. If that did not fix the problem let me know what are the codes you are getting on the star if any..may created a mechanical issue internally by driving the car low on transmission oil.
@lanternofknowledge56197 жыл бұрын
Mercedes Benz Techs hi pal thank you for your prompt reply we checked the transmission oil and it was fine didn't smell burnt or discolouration so we changed it anyway with new filter but this still did not make any difference and also it did not throw any codes on the diagnostic machine so could it be the oil pump broken inside and would this be detected by the star machine or if the torque converter was faulty would this come up on the star and finally if is mechanical i.e. K3 clutch was smoked would it stop it moving in drive/reverse
@MercedesBenzTechs7 жыл бұрын
rangzeb hussain sometimes star won't pick up mechanical issues, disconnect cooler lines to radiator start car and see if fluids coming out if not you may have a bad pump or bad valve body if it does come out you may have a bad torque converter and off course it might be a bad seals or piston that not letting the pump build pressure.

Hi Mercedes Benz Tech My gearbox even on C reduce gear down to 1 witch is anoing, is that mean that my 7G is faulty? There is no faults on it. Thanks
@MercedesBenzTechs7 жыл бұрын
polrze what do you mean reduce gears to one??? Is it in limp mode? Does it get to higher gear at all? Does it shift? Or shift manually? Give a little more information as well as year and model.
@polrze7 жыл бұрын
Mercedes Benz Techs Hi Thanks for replay. I heard that 722.9 when o C mode and you slow right down keep you on 2nd gear, which is more comfortable. But mine reduces down to 1 (jerks doing that) and starts from 1st not 2nd. Thanks
@polrze7 жыл бұрын
Its not in limp, change gears fine 0-60 less than 6s. Just jerks when changing from 2 to 1. Just wondering if 7g supposed to start from 2nd why on computer shows Target 1st actual 1st?

When in C, use brake HOLD function when standing by. This seems to keep the gearbox in 2nd. If you hold brake manually, the car seems to switch to 1st for some reason and it only switches to 2nd after you let go of the pedal and if you press accelerator too soon it will nudge hard. But yeah use HOLD function that is my experience.

I have an 06 ML350 with the 722.906 transmission, its giving me problems, do you think it's worth changing it? I have 99,000 miles on it, the car is excellent and looks great, do you think I should invest in a transmission swap to get it going again. BTW I was told by MB dealer inspection that they "REC REPLACE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER WITH RE-MANUFACTURED. (MECHANICAL FAULT IN TRANSMISSION B1 CLIP.)" What do you think?

I just swap electronics on them. Anything more involved and it's hauled out to be replaced with used/rebuilt. Unless you are modifying, see no reason to go that far.

And then here, in this video, we see what a real mechanic, who has the skill set required to do more than a swap-and-go can do. They actually do repairs.
