People talking entielly wrong here. There is 0 warning about the coolant and the temp reading is normal for these old diseles when pushed harder, it is normal. Warning lights are for windshield washer, broken bulb and the SRS or handbrake. There is 0 indication the coolant pipe or tank is about to burst (or whatever happened there). Stop blaiming the driver for not noticing stuff as there was nothing to notice. The only thing that could've been done is reducing the stress on the highway as these engines are generally too weak and prone to various issues in this specific car.

The 350 Turbodiesel is not a very durable engine, the longer stroke compared to the 3 liter version did not do it good. And the OM603 Turbo does have problems with cracked cylinder heads, plus a tendency to overheat if the cooling system is not 100%. That said, keeping an eye on the temperature gauge *and* the warning lights would be a good idea. By the way, the transmission in this thing is a 722.3 that is not electronically controlled. When it slams into gears, it's due to a faulty vacuum system.
@mysterion3912Ай бұрын
The engine was already problematic from the factory, because the rear cylinders tended to overheat due to the routing of the water channels, and the cylinder walls also tended to break. If I remember correctly, experts also advised against revving the car higher than 4000 rpm over a longer period of time because of this problem. He also does everything right in this situation: he lets the car roll so that the airstream continues to cool it and he turns the ventilation up to the highest temperature. I strongly suspect that this video was intended to send the engine on its last journey.

I think the failure may have already occured prior to this video. It probably has a bad head gasket, which would help explain the trouble starting and the poor acceleration. You had the warning light on the dashboard since you started driving, if I remember correctly those lights are warning lights

The most important thing is the driver had a glove. It is a musthave nowadays like hawk tuah.

Why revving it high before it has oil pressure, not to mention before the oil has reached the camshafts, the piston squirters and all bearings of the crankshaft? 🤦♂️ Just stupid people rev a 4-stroke engine above 3,000 rpm within the 1st 30 seconds after start! There is clunking noise from the beginning - you ignore it. 😵💫 You hear clearly when entering the highway it's not running right/"round" on all cylinders - you ignore it. 😵💫 The coolant temperature exeeds 100 °C - you ignore it. 😵💫 When the coolant temperature is at 120 °C you see the steam - and then it's the guild of the car? 🤦♂️🤮
