What are the weak points in a 124 to check before buy one.

Nothing that can't be fixed easily. I get my parts from the USA so have to wait a week for arrival. If you buy a petrol car, it will have the KE Jetronic fuel injection system and if that has been sitting around not being driven for long periods it could cause issues and it's a complex system to resolve issues. Many prefer the diesel engine cars with the OM engines to eliminate this. All electronics are easily repairable if you identify an issue. You'll need to check the year models as I can't recall but early 90's cars had a biodegradable wiring harness that just disintegrates. Don't buy those cars unless you know for a fact it's been replaced. even then, be careful.. Mine is 1987 so no problems there. Like any car, if it's driven often and well maintained there are almost no weak points with these. Solid, stable, capable and comfortable. Age related things are just par for course but fixable. They are very long lasting however. The build quality is just excellent so they just last. Get onto Facebook for the W124 Enthusiasts group plus the Benz World forum and you'll have access to tons of information. Pelican Parts in the USA has tons of how to guides and also parts when needed. The proper shop manuals are available online plus hundreds of how to repair videos around to fix things yourself. Watch Kent Bergsma (Mercedessource) YT (hes also an ex pilot) and MMWA YT here in Australia (he rebuilt a W124 from a very broken example with lots of detail). You'll find a good one soon enough.

Your wallet. ---every old W124 needs a full valve/guide job which is the beginning of your $ exhaustion and than move on to the next.
