We have a new navara in our yard - I’m sorry but the only thing that’s different here is the front grill and parts of the interior. The rest of the supposed changes aren’t nearly distinguishable enough for a Mercedes. I find the ride and rear suspension are prehistoric on this chassis too. Navara drivers will LOVE this Mercedes partnership news, and rightly so 😎

Only the X350d uses the Mercedes V6 diesel. The X220d and X250d uses the Navara's 4-cylinder engines.

Depends on the market, here in Argentina medium pick-up trucks is a huge market and the Navara can not compete being imported fron Mexico. So they choose to start manufacturing the Mercedes variant instead of Nissan, on a plant that makes Renault vehicles instead of the Mercedes trucks we already have. I think it is a great call from them: as a work vehicle it can not compete with a Hilux or a Ranger, but in the top specs pickups the badge is way more important and people will pay more for a Mercedes than a Nissan!

Mercedes Benz did a good job in getting the style in-line with other MB vehicles and it seems to be quite a capable off-road vehicle. That trademark Mercedes Benz 3 star logo in the grille is a beacon that will surely get a lot of buyers'. Another fine review there Thomas.

The South American version of the X-class will be built in my city starting next year. I hope they don't remove too much equipment as all brands usually do when they "adapt" European-spec to South American market (meaning: cheapening the production, ditching safety features, but keeping the final price more expensive!)

Hi Thomas, I am really busy to watch all your great postings, you are number one! My opinion is not always positive for a car manufacturer but if I give my opinion here, it is because I can give it after a full review you always do! I feel boring after these last 20 years with Mercedes shapes copy/paste same design, even Maybach is looking like this truck! Lol. The bad point I feel from design point of view is that the wind shield is so inclined in a way it puts the driver with that long hood very far from watching the hood and feel in the front to enjoy the nature during the off-road driving! To give it credit, it can be bought only in full-option and driven only on Beverly Hills street just for showing off! Also I like to mention the the interior designer is more creative than in their other passenger cars! Cheers! ;)

BMW ///M the AMG version probably won't happen. Consider that it's based on the Nissan XTrail platform which I doubt can handle the torque of the AMG power trains currently available. An AMG diesel might be a good idea for this as a compromise and a way to make a nice body styling improvement

Firstly, many thanks to Thomas for another thorough review; keep up the good work! Not only from reading the reviews, but also from pure logic, one has to ask the question: who would this car appeal to and why? If i was in a region where a pickup was part of the bare necessities then I would go for a Suzuki or a Toyota. Why? Proven reliability, easy to run, to maintain.If I had a power boat in Saint Tropez then I would buy a trailer and pull it with a Mercedes. Please let me know how many customers that would make.... Seriously, I think Mercedes should have taken a bolder approach and shown the world how "better" they could make a pickup. That would be the hallmark everyone would expect. In fine, a failure in this segment will not change the life of Mercedes. But they should seriously think about a face-lift before it's too late!!!!

So disappointed. 😭😞💔. We love German cars in South Africa. The C Class is in the top 10 best selling cars every month here. This is not a Mercedes. And we are upset. South Africans are VERY loyal and for pick ups they only buy the Hilux and Ranger. The Amarok even struggled to win many people because of various reasons despite VW selling the most cars in South Africa every month (the Polo to be exact). At least the Amarok is a VW. It is German and has slowly gained sales. The X Class is not a German car. That's what is making many upset. They are going to charge a lot of money for a car that is not a real Mercedes. My heart is broken. Our local car magazines are going to tear it apart and choose the Amarok. I want to SCREAM at Mercedes for this. Aaaaah!!! I'm so damn 😡😡😡😡😡😡 No reach adjustment!! What!!!! 😡😡😡

This X-Class is a huge missed opportunity in my mind. If Mercedes had designed it all in house, as well as worked with MB cars as well as MB vans, the X class would be a much better vehicle. It is still an excellent looking truck. When Mercedes put's their minds to something, the result is usually excellent, for example the G-Wagon and S-Class. In addition, marketing it as a passenger car more and giving it a class, like the GLX perhaps, would have made it much more appealing. Finally, if this car was sold in the US, it would achieve excellent success.

It’s not coming to US because of the chicken tax. Weird story behind the name, important part is commercial on highway vehicles get charged a major tax if they weren’t built in the US, and having a bed puts it into that category.

Thomas, I am not too happy with the interior. I am from South Africa. One of the main markets for this car. Many are complaining that it is just a fancy Nissan and are saying they didn't do enough to distinguish it. For me there are too many flaws. The interior has too many Nissan bits which is unacceptable. The window switches could've even been those from the previous C Class or other Mercedes models. The climate controls should've been from the C Class too and situated where the CD slot and those buttons are. The vast space below that oart could've been used for the CD slot and perhaps another cubby and note storage. The gear shift should've been by the steering column like other Mercedes models. The cupholders should be in front of the comand controller because when drinks are in the cupholders it blocks the controller and therefore it blocks the only way to control the screen. They have perfectly good and capable and proven and reliable drivetrains in the 2.1 litre diesel which they also use in their commercial and passenger cars yet choose to use a Nissan engine???? Why? The rear needs better styling. The indicator lights even on models with LED lights are normal bulbs instead of being part of the LED strip. Very disappointing to be honest.

Autogefühl Thomas I'm so mad. I am almost in tears. Perhaps I need to drive it when it launches here. But from first impressions I just can't get over some of their choices and choice of switchgear. I LOVE Mercedes so much. I'll never buy or support another car maker other than Mercedes. I've loved Mercedes since I was 12 and still do. But this. This has angered me. I will always love Mercedes still though and it'll always be the only car for me. But this....not this.

If only they had started with a clean slate. Here in Australia the Toyota Hilux is the number one selling car, but the Nissan Navara is a pretty poor seller, so this thing is going to lose big money as soon as it drives out of the showroom. I was really interested when I first heard that Mercedes was building a ute, but a restyled Navara just isn't going to cut it.

Yea... no. The G-class is a design from the 70's and is hand built. its pretty much limited to ~5,000 units a year (which is why they are so expensive)
