Drain and fill, flushing adds the risk of debris introduction.
@Mercedessource11 ай бұрын
@@ChrisPatrick-q6k You must have not watched the full video. I do not recommend a "flush". I recommend a power drain with the engine running. Think! If that were a problem then one should not even drive the car due to "risks."

Thank you for making this video series. I have a 2006 c280 and love the car overall. Recently, the 722 9 went into limp mode and the code showing on the scanner is p2767. Going to attempt to replace the related sensor and its close neighbor, y38n1 and y38n2 I believe. Sending it out for professional repair is the preferred method, but times are indeed tough and I am a decent DIY mechanic with a knowledgeable father in law over my shoulder. If you would be so kind to entertain either or both questions: Would you go all in with this repair, purchasing the pan/filter upgrade and flush kits from your website and performing this all at once? I have to remove the valve body anyways...Or, would you wait on the flush until after the sensor repair is verified? Not going to hold you to it, just asking an opinion. Thanks again for the great videos.

I am currently working on a video with the limp-home situation and sending the conductor plate out for repair. It is in transit now. I would do the power drain after you put it all back together for a cleaner drain and less fluid used. Remember, you will get almost 2 liters of old fluid out when you remove the valve body.
@BMAcon Жыл бұрын
Thank you for responding Kent. I will keep an eye out for that video! Apologies for asking tech questions, just saw your post on the 722 9 part 4 video. I'll reach out through your website in the future. Hope you have a great day, sir!

Does your instructional video also include the instructions on how to remove and clean the valve body without damaging the components??

I have a cleaning and service kit for the 722.9 transmission which comes with very detailed video instructions. Here is the link: mercedessource.com/store/2003-2010-7-speed-transmission-valve-body-conductor-plate-service-kit

Excellent video. Ken, how would this compare to doing two drain and fill procedures ? Just need two sets of filters and screws with plenty of atf. Your process would be faster.
@Mercedessource Жыл бұрын
Definitely faster and more thorough. Even with two drain and fill procedures, you will still have two to four liters of dirty fluid mixed with new ( depending on whether or not you drain the torque converter AND the valve body. Watch my next video on how much fluid is "trapped' in the valve body. :-)

So I forgot to Shift through the gears before setting transmission fluid level (w164) I realized after and went through p, n ,r, d. How much fluid do you think I'll need to add. Thank you
@5000RR5 ай бұрын
what do you use to clean the tank so u can use different type of fluid?
@Mercedessource4 ай бұрын
It depends on what you put in it. Brake fluid must be thoroughly cleaned out with alcohol if you are planning to use a petroleum product like rear end or transmission fluid. Those can be cleaned out with mineral spirits.

Is one expected to do this without a lift? 12-18 inches off the ground is gonna be impossible to use the equipment plus it'll be a huge mess! I wish we all had a shop with a lift 😂
@Mercedessource11 ай бұрын
If you drive the car up on 4 car ramps rather than jack stands you will have much better clearance. If you use my procedure with my fill tank it and take some car you can actually do it without spilling on the floor.

This video series comes a month after I just did a drain and fill of 5 liters on a new to me Sprinter that had no trans service in 7 years and 84000 miles. I was warned that if a trans is neglected that a full drain could shock they system. Even heard the ph can change with old fluid. I am curious if you still recommend your power flush method with neglected transmissions.
@Mercedessource Жыл бұрын
The fact that you are calling it a "flush" leads me to believe you did not watch the entire series from beginning to end.
@asabradford3410 Жыл бұрын
I did, and I appreciate the content. I have watched it carefully as it pertains to my own transmission! I am being careless with terminology. These videos do imply the power drain procedure is safe for transmissions in any state of service histories or lack thereof. I am curious if there’s any times you might act more conservatively, or rather if you think there’s a benefit to working up to the power drain?
@asabradford3410 Жыл бұрын
@@Mercedessource if possible, another video in the series showing the details of the procedure of a power drain would be helpful! Or even a link if you already have older material showing the specific process. Thanks for your excellent content!
@Mercedessource Жыл бұрын
As stated in my video, if you are worried about power draining your transmission, then you should be worried about driving the car down the road. A power drain does nothing different from the normal flow of fluid through the transmission driven by the internal pump. Remember, NO flushing occurs.

Why so complicated?? You can fill in the tank through the dipstick tube, with a little manual or elektric pump. I do this since years, and it function without problem.
