I love this channel. I don’t have my old 300TD anymore but I still like watching Kent save these old Benz’s from time to time.

I'll bet you Americans didn't know that this engine series lived in right up until 2006. It's last iteration was the OM662 and it was used in Korea by a brand called Ssangyong in a pick up truck and a few SUV models (Musso, Korando and Rexton.) I have a 2004 Musso that is giving my grief over a loose pre chamber and a partially stripped thread in the head for the collar 😢

I had a om603 with a stripped collar thread. Loose prechamber. The constant diesel knock drove me nuts.

Great review! Another reason to change these mounts so you don’t damage your oil cooler hoses. Oil cooler hose damage could be catastrophic. Thanks for the video Kent. Your the MAN 🙌

In Australia all blokes call their cars some form of female name. But haveing said that i would also love to have Old Spence in my garage. 300D's are a bit thin on the ground over here, any that are any good anyway !!
@PeterCox-k1w Жыл бұрын
@@stephengorin3059 I agree, here in Perth WA you don't see many at all, having said that there aren't that many old euro cars of any make. A bit unfortunate

Yeah, I really enjoyed my 79 wagon and I hope it lives on. Was a Texas car so little rust, but dang, when they're worn out it gets expensive! Who knows how many miles it had. The odometer always breaks on them. The guy I sold it to wanted it for parts, but changed his mind when he looked it over. I hope he swapped in a turbo and a 4 speed, cause it was super slow and 65 was it's sweet spot. Also hope he left the old green patina paint...

Operators can inflict so much abuse, yet in operation the vehicle still functions at a level deemed reasonable. Durability is not getting stranded even when mechanically worn out. and repairable sub systems which can be returned to intended specification with reasonable effort because parts continue available.

There's also the attraction of simplicity making it easy to remanufacture parts. Jay Leno points this out that, with today's 3D scanning, cnc machining, 3d printing he can pretty much recreate (and indeed, improve) parts for his classic vehicles. And he can then make them for other owners too. Obviously not everything, but enough to save a lot of vehicles. Inertia is what matters too. Aston Martin decided to recreate modern builds of the classic James Bond DB5. ZF agreed to remanufacture the gearbox. The surprise was that with the gearbox available again, a lot of people bought them to put in their original DB5s and get them driving again. Maybe right to repair will extend to cars one day, stop them becoming too proprietary and disposable.

Old Spence wants to live. Lot of the things talked in the video also apply to other German car brands. Seen lot of VW with broken or welded engine mounts. Late 80s cars had hydraulic motor mounts and once they go bad your engine wants to go sky high out from the engine bay.

Another thing I would like to share and I learned this from you is the valve cover is different where the injectors go, which makes me think the engine is a rebuild ?

Hey Mr.Kent, I love your videos, they are very informative and fun to watch. What do you think about 5 cylinder 270cdi engine, code OM647? I have inherited a run down W211 chassis sedan from late 2002. The car, now nicknamed the Bomber has had a very hard life and I want to slowly bring it to its former glory. It has a huge options list and I believe it has everything besides solar panels in the panoramic roof. It drives but the fuel injectors are on their last legs, as is the turbocharger, the odometer reads 310k miles. I have been slowly working on it and your series about 2000's mercedes has been a God send. Thank you for your work and I hope I get to meet you in person one day. Greeting from Croatia.
