It's amazing how Till manipulates his voice ... whispering, high-pitched, low-pitched voices ... these emotions are ... brilliant. He is not just a singer ... he is a musical genius. In my opinion, he is a musical discovery. Something beautiful. His vocal and creative possibilities are overwhelming with beauty, art, modernity and artistry.

To me, this is more performance art than a music video. The pianist is Clemens Potzsch, playing an arrangement by Sven Helbig and Lars Kutschke. Rammstein's guitarist, Paul Landers, was behind the piano versions - all on the XXI- Klavier album. It is so extraordinary: Till wearing an evening gown; the cuts on his chest and arms are genuine, for authenticity, not makeup. The original video version is excellent too but has a very different feel as it is classic Rammstein. Till is menacing in a very different way on the original.

The Piano Versions are all from the album XXI - Klavier. The piano piece at the end of Deutschland is of 'Sonne'. The entire album is fantastic and well worth the listen. Also something to keep in mind is the Till always writes the lyrics to be very open to interpretation and favoring multilayered meanings. This is one of the reasons that translation of the lyrics is generally very difficult with Rammstein as some of the layers always get lost. In this case, the surface level of the song is about nightmares. But the deeper layers is about what CAUSES those nightmares. It is about abuse and breaking the cycle of abuse. It is about the scars of abuse (nightmares) and learning to help others overcome those scars rather than allowing yours to create them in others.

I’m so glad that you followed advice and watched this one. What an astonishing video. A lyricist who totally lives his song in his performance: look at the acting at 11:30 in your video, the transition from ghastly smile to utter sadness that Till expresses with his eyes alone is incredible. Amazing. I’m really enjoying your reactions: you have said a couple of times that you think that you are talking too much, but don’t worry, we are watching because we want to know what you think. There are too many people reacting to these videos and not offering any analysis or expressing any emotional response……keep it up, please!

The song you hear at the end of "Deutschland" is the piano version of their song "Sonne". The "Sandmännchen" TV show for kids used to be made in eastern Germany (where they grew up) but it was broadcast in both Germanies, even long before the reunification.
@AKAHEIZER2 жыл бұрын
He is somehow speaking directly to your soul, I think it is his "whispering", like someone is telling a "good night story" or a fairly tail, and that makes you somehow feel cosy and comfy, like when you were a child, and your mother or father was telling you a bedtime story.
@michaelking12292 жыл бұрын
If Sandman helps children go to sleep and help them have dreams, maybe Till is portraying an alter ego from which nightmares come from. This alter ego doesn't like giving children nightmares (hence his heart burns), but he cannot change what and who he is. Classic internal battle between what you want and what you have.

The Sandman is children's program on TV. A good night story every evening brought by the Sandman so that the children fall asleep well. Till's version is the nightmare variant. So the exact opposite of that.
@jbird44782 жыл бұрын
The TV show is based on a fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson, in which the sandman gives good dreams to good children, and bad dreams to naughty children. So instead of the opposite, I would say it tells the other side of the same story.

This song makes me cry sometimes. Maybe I am overthinking, but still Till is the one, who wrote the lyrics ( as for all other Rammstein songs) and I read about his childhood, about hard times in boarding school where he lived without parents from 10 years old. I imagine scared sad boy Till lying and crying in bed and afraid of this mysterious creature who is stealing his tears.. Just so heartbroken..

First of all, such a beautiful reaction. Thank you. With a straight interpretation, this song may seem to be a reference to very popular German Kids TV show "Sandmännchen (The Sandman)" from the first lines of beginning part, and becomes a story blended with scary elements such as childhood nightmares, etc.. But this is only the visible side masterfully constructed. In fact the real story is about the children isolated in orphanages after World War 2 in DDR. They had no families and they were nobody's children anymore. They were subjected to all kind of torture and even pedophilia too. This song is their remembrance by a man who has DDR origins, in a unique creative style of art. That piano version is simply the continuation of the original song; same place and context, ... Please check out the original version and video without losing connection with the song; you'll see all those things behind the real story.

Did you notice it? At the very end as the lights are fading the white smoke? I believe the white smoke/mist you see in the very end as the lights slowly go off was his spirit/Soul. I think that he was finally able to ascend...after making sure all the children were safe and at the same time atoning for his past sins he was finally set free. The original was released in 2001 then the piano version in 2012 so it follows the story from Till in the orphanage to protecting the kids and the emotions he shows is mainly anger followed by sadness then in the piano version his emotions are kinda bitter sweet? He realizes he had to do things he didn't want to do to save the children. So now that he's done, he is finally set free.

Since I heard you making a connection to the german series for Children (der Sandmann), i wanna offer a different approach to understand the song a bit better. It‘s based on an older story. Amazing reaction! So happy doing this is helping you discover not only new music but broadening your opinions on metal especially! If I could make a suggestion it would be Avatar, a Swedish metal band. Wonderful and, from what I've seen, very underrated band. They have a very loyal fan base but not nearly as large as they deserve. If you want heavy with deep meaning go with A Secret Door of Bloody Angel. If you want faster and slightly more upbeat go with The King Welcomes you to Avatar Country. On lyrics, I don't believe any of their official videos have closed captioning or if they do it is the poorly done auto-generated ones, so you may have to look up the lyrics.
