Thanks for the vid! That could be why the boat is parked many years ago, so it related to the engine seizing......

Glad you enjoyed it! This boat has been in my best friend's family since new, so we know it just got parked because the kids left the house off to college and their dad didn't use it alone. Then it sat too long

Sorry to see that bud!! I'm on a similar project, and been watching your videos, which by the way are great. My buddy and I got a 1997 Rinker Captiva that's been sitting since 2014 up north, and we just got the motor to free up. This past weekend, we rebuilt the starter, and now is the moment of truth. We gotta crank this baby up and see if she runs!! Hopefully we dont run into the same issues as you guys. Wish me luck and I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Just get a 4.3l out of a truck! It's the same thing but with brass freeze plugs. Your engine has vortec heads (vertical intake bolts). I'm about to do an engine swap in my boat, from a 3.0 to a 4.3 out of a truck. Best of luck man.

I’m in the beginning stages of unfreezing a 4.3 (the dreaded clunk) and after watching your videos, I’m trying to save myself heartache (and skinned knuckles) was there a way you could have diagnosed the cracked engine block, before all the work you put into it? Thank you for the great videos!

it was super apparent once we removed the intake. So you might start there, good luck!

Yes * you can use a raideator pressure tool to see any water leaks in your motor ☆ it's away of putting air pressure behind water , the water will come out of cracks * make sure the motor is all put together together so it will be a closed unit ☆ look for Sligh bubbling any where on the motor especially around combustion chamber in cylinder heads ☆ motor has to be together with radiator and hoses attached * pressure tool can be screwed on to radiator fill hole 🕳 I did this once snd and it worked perfectly 😊 * I think you can get this pressure tester at parts stores like O'REILLY''S 👍 don't be afraid,, it was really easy to do.....
@bostonbrown20063 жыл бұрын
You should really drop the outdrive down when you run the motor. It will destroy the u-joint in the outdrive. Ask me how I know. And it is not a cheap repair, or an easy one. And it will happen very quickly.

@leetime4543 жыл бұрын
You going to try welding or brazing it? If it still runs great it's probably just the water jackets in the block and since there is not radiator is should be a really low pressure system.
@RacerXGarage3 жыл бұрын
No, were not going to waste any more time on this shortblock. It may have not been really bad before we ran it, but it flexed so much I have no doubt in my mind it has warped and messed up tolerances. We may pull the inner goodies out but we won't be using this block

Damn brother, I'm at a loss of words for you Right now. I'm fighting to get a title for a boat I purchased on Craigslist and put under my name and the boat that I want to restore is a 1984 thundercraft 17' Malibu.. Who knows what condition the motor is but because I'd rather rebuild or buy a new motor for my boat rather than buy a boat in payments, I think I'll settle for a brand new motor if I had no choice.. Either way it goes you have a great looking boat which I do believe you should invest into a motor when you can you can. At least you know what you have In your Stern.

We do have a motor and will be starting on the process soon! Keep an eye out, thanks for the kind words!

very good video! I need some advice on something. I recently bought an 1986 chevy truck with a V6 4.3. It has a propane system on it and the original carburetor is no where to be found. I have a 78 quadrajet that I just rebuilt and would like to install it. the truck intake manifold is the original spreadbore quadrajet carburetor. Also this engine has the electronic spark control distributor without the vaccum advance. if I put this 78 carb I got on it do you think it will work just fine?
@RacerXGarage Жыл бұрын

@@RacerXGarage there the same. Gm didn't build special internal components for mercury. It's simply a truck engine. Truck cam, truck crank. They put brass freeze plugs in it and slapped a cast iron manifold on it.
