you did not mention that when you start engine the new filter will take oil to fill it thus lowering the amount of oil in the engine and YOU need to check the oil level again and add more oil if necessary!!! This could be very important !
@clearwaterfishing4 жыл бұрын
Donavan Aja Thank you for pointing that out. I did notice on mine, the oil drains out of the filter and into the sump when the engine is off, but you should still check it after you run it like you said.
@williamvigneault18884 жыл бұрын
Also - there are markings on the engine showing exactly how much oil they take. This INCLUDES the amount that cycles thru oil filter. Always a good habit to double check but as long as you follow what your engine takes - you’ll be good. You do need to be careful because some engines lie. The new Yamaha VMAX 150 is a good example of that. Calls for 4.3 and it’s closer to 6 if I remember correctly.

I was thinking the same thing on the new filter. Like changing the oil in a vehicle but a lot easier lol. Thanks for the video.
@BeastandBird2 жыл бұрын
Tip for the young players.... If you prime your filter, ie. Pour enough oil into the filter that the media absorbs it, you don't have a big difference in oil level change and you also have oil pressure immediately rather than waiting for the filter to prime as the engine runs.

@@clearwaterfishing no, not at all. The one concern I have is that I ordered an oil change kit for the engine that came with filter, a new o-ring for the drain screw, a little plastic deal for directing the oil away from the drain (which I didn’t use, because I went with your advice and trimmed up/turned the motor and it wasn’t needed) and just THREE quarts of oil. After changing it, it looked fine/full on the dipstick, but I’ll certainly check it after running it to make sure more oil isn’t needed. I also had a little cloudiness in my lower unit oil that drained, but it wasn’t bad. Going to do some research on that, but hoping it isn’t a big deal. It wasn’t white by any stretch, but seemed slightly tainted as if there may have been a little water in it. I bought the boat used a year ago and have run it a lot. By the looks of the engine oil (it was very black), both it and the lower lube probably needed changed last year.
@clearwaterfishing4 жыл бұрын
@@BobSellersSings I might can help you with the gear lube. If you boat hadn’t been run in a few days before you drained the gear lube, the water would have been the first thing to drain out. The cloudiness could be the lube wasn’t full and got some air mixed in it. If you ran it recently, it would have looked milky. It doesn’t hurt to check after your next trip.

I don't torque them. I try to give a solid snug on the plug. On a filter, once it touches I do an additional 3/4 to 1 1/4 of a turn.

I will fill mine to 9.5 or 9.8/10 (max) . So what if you had mercury oil in your outboard put in and you decide to re- add quicksilver bcoz you low on oil. Can you mix mercury oil with quicksilver? Also can you mix 25w40 with 10w-30?
@clearwaterfishing2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t have an issue mixing brands of oil that are the same weight. I don’t recommend mixing weights of oil. Maybe if it is was a small amount because it was low (which is much better than running it low).
