@@RFishingtxI did the full service minus the impeller this year but the only thing i couldnt do was that inline fuel filter, i have the 40hp. And that filter lives below the bottom coil pac, with zero clearance. The coils and the mounting rail need to be removed to access it. Only you cant access the bottom bolt on the lower pac, and if you did put it back in , it would be a nightmare, it has standoffs behind it,; that the bolts go through.

@mistrcrvr I shouldn’t have used good but should have said normal. It has to do with the hub design on the spitfire props that requires the prop to have a tiny bit of play back and forth.

Very good video. I do have a question though. Do you have to change the in inline fuel filter? That one is hard to get to. And if it is not required to change on the annual, then how often is it recommended to change? Thanks in advance.
@RFishingtx
@RFishingtx 9 ай бұрын
@hifivingstarfish6885 I’m glad you brought this up and based on your question, I will put a video out very soon covering this. Although Mercury does not provide clear guidance on the in line fuel filter, it should technically be replaced at the 100 hour or annually whichever comes first. With that said, I would say that a lot of folks (myself included) don’t change them out as often as we should.

@RFishingtx

Did you replace the seals on the upper / breather screws in the lower unit housing? Is it better to remove both of the screws when changing the gear oil? Thanks for such a great video!
@RFishingtx
@RFishingtx 7 ай бұрын
@dwainlsmith Thanks for the kind words. I did not replace any seals on the lower unit screws. When draining the lower unit gear oil, it’s best to remove the bottom screw first and then the top screw which then allows the pressure to release allowing the oil to drain out. In essence you are removing both screws but after the gear oil is pumped back in you replace them one at a time. I hope that answers your question.

Why would you not for the gear oil fill it from the top bolt that was removed? So then you wouldn’t have to quickly reattach the bottom bolt.
@RFishingtx
@RFishingtx 5 ай бұрын
You fill from the bottom in order to push the air in there out. If you were to fill from the top, then you wouldn’t get that air out and the lower unit would not be full of oil like it’s supposed to be.
