gday mate i watched another guy and had an interesting way to change the oil ,he had a 14mm barb fitting attached to a length of hose he cranked the engine up took out the drain plug screwed in the fitting with the hose going into a pan and lowered the engine and the oil ran out into the pan no need to balance the pan while it drained thought it was a good idea as you dould go on with other maintenance jobs while waiting for the oil to drain , one thing i like to do is prime the filter first with oil and remove the filler cap and also the dipstick, its interesting about the fill mark people would thing that as you say the bottom mark is add and the top mark is full really good point for you to put into this video

Thank you flr everything i do it on my own as well. But is it better to het the motor running some minuter before or so so the oil is a bit warm and flush out easier than a cold ?

If you lift the motor after the initial drain and bring it down again you will be surprised how much additional oil will drain out. It will also make way less mess when you unscrew the filter :)

Can you do a video on the prop seal , drive seal and shaft seal for the lower unit
@CanadaWideMarine
@CanadaWideMarine 2 жыл бұрын
If I ever get one in that needs re-sealing I most certainly will. Around here it is very unusual to have to re-seal a Yamaha lower unit, I have found them to be very reliable.

I have an annoying issue with my Yamaha F60TLRH 2009 Model. It runs beautifully but I have an issue every time I do a cold start. First turn of ignition it either fires briefly and dies or starts and goes into a high rev speed. Once I turn off the ignition and immediately restart it the engine runs 100% normal. If I drive to our cottage and turn off the engine then try to restart it hot it is very difficult to get it started so normally I now leave it running when I know I am meeting someone or picking something up. Idle We have replaced Idle Air Control Valve but no change. Any idea what the solution may be? My workaround by starting, turning off and immediately restarting a second time always works but I would like to solve this glitch.

I have a Yamaha F60 which as you know is identical to the F50. Where is the connector to attach the Yamaha Diagnostic Software cable. I presumed it was the cable front centre with the white removable plug with blue and yellow leads but that apparently is the NMEA 2000 connector. Hello from Lake Talon between North Bay and Mattawa, Ontario.

The data connector is a three wire connector. Grey cap with a little fishing line tether attached to it so you don't lose it when unplugged. It usually has black or yellow electrical tape wrapped around it. Exact location, I cannot tell you , I work on way too many different motors to remember where they all are. I do remember one of those smaller Yamahas recently having the connector in an odd spot, I just don't remember where it was off the top of my head.

@@CanadaWideMarine Thank you for the very prompt and informative response. The pontoon boat and F60 came out for the winter on Tuesday and presumably all winterized now so I will print this as a reminder for May 2033. Google search was little help. Hopefully you have an idea on what causes my cold starting issue. Thank you very much for sharing your expertise.

Thanks for a very good video. However, I am also about to change the impeller. I do not get the lower part off. I have removed 4 big bolts an 2 in the back under the little fin. I have also disconnected the little black hose (pitot?). Have I forgot something? Br Thomas

Hi Thomas, thanks for watching. I did a video on removing the lower unit here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3y7f6yCbqeLg9U If you have everything undone it is very likely the lower unit is tight on the dowels and driveshaft splines, especially if it has not been off in some time. Some gentle tapping with a dead blow hammer or rubber mallet to get it to start moving then lever it with a screwdriver usually does the trick.

How can I see the hours on my motor if I don’t have a hr meter on boat itself?

I just bought this motor. I thought I didn't need to use the ear muffs, I thought the hose screwed in to that hose up near the hood. Is that not the case?
@none8258
@none8258 17 күн бұрын
You can use the hose attachment to run hose water through it but the engine must be off. If you want to run the engine while you flush, you can't use the hose attachment and must use the muffs.

Right beside the oil dip stick, there is a small tube that seems to wrap around. My tube is hanging, and one side does not seem to be plugged in. What is this tube, does this affect my motor starting? How do I plug it back in please?

Hello Michael. If you can email me a photo of this tube tube support@canadawidemarine.com I should be able to identify it and help you out.

I was just working on a 150 Yamaha and saw the VST drain tube which is likely the tube you are referring to. It is a clear plastic tube connected at one end to the VST, (Vapor separation tank). Just above the connection point you will find a drain screw you can loosen to drain and inspect the fuel from the tank. If it is your VST drain tube, it does not affect your engine starting.

Do i have to do fogging when i winterise the YAMAHA F50HETL 2022?
@CanadaWideMarine
@CanadaWideMarine 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I really need to do some videos on winterizing. The short answer is yes. But let me add some information for you to consider. First, Yamaha has a product, that we use in all our fuel injected outboards called "EFI Storage Mix" you mix it up in a separate fuel tank and run it through the motor. This lubricates the fuel pumps and injectors and reduces varnish and gum buildup in those components while the motor is in storage. It also fogs the cylinders and valves with an oil coating to reduce corrosion. If you do not want to use their mix, or can't get it. The next best option is to pull the spark plugs out and spray fogging oil into each cylinder. The spin the motor over a few times to ensure the oil is spread out in the cylinders and onto the valves.. Now, here's where it gets a little vague. Modern inboard engines have catalytic converters on them. We do not fog those motors as the excess oil will damage the converters. Whats interesting is that I am not seeing or hearing of any corrosion issues because the engines are not fogged. So you decide. If the motor is stored in a high humidity area, with temperature swings that will lead to condensation forming on the metal surfaces then I highly recommend fogging. If the motor is stored indoors in a heated garage with minimal temperature swings and low humidity, then you probably do not need to worry too much about corrosion. Do not forget to stabilize your fuel. And as a side note, if you want to keep the motor looking great I use the Yamaha Silicone protectant and lubricant spray on the motor once a year, usually when winterizing, and it keeps everything under the hood looking like brand new. I've been using it for years. Hope this helps.

Do you know what the fix is for the loud constant beep is while runnimg
@CanadaWideMarine
@CanadaWideMarine 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on what is causing the beep. What motor are we talking about. Usually the best thing to do if an alarm is sounding is to have a marine mechanic scan the computer.
