I have a 2002 and I grabbed one off a police car at the junkyard. It's thicker than the civilian model. I bought some Moog endlinks to go with it. Felt a huge difference going from no sway bar to the police one.

My car already had a bar, but this will also apply to the ADTR/Addco big rear sway bar. HIGHLY recommend the ADTR sway bar. Makes the stock look absolutely puny and the handling difference is night and day. Love it.

There are several rear bar thickness choices. With stock springs, stock 15mm bar is best. If going for handling with CVPI springs, go with 17mm bar. 21mm HPP bar is also a good match for CVPI springs and shocks.

Thanks for the tips! I have all stock as of what I know, had the car for a little over two months. And you can’t beat the $25 price tag for the bar and hardware. Maybe future projects for handling and such!

@@LoveWhatYouDrive I have a Sport LX. I bought a complete suspension set from a retired CVPI including struts, rear shocks, rear springs, and front roll bar. Rear roll bar was from 1998-2002 HPP package. Luckily, bushings were fresh poly so did not have to buy new ones. I made sure shocks were OEM Ford because they have the best seals and last the longest. All components were good. I did have to buy new endlinks. Cost was about $200 with my labor. Gave up some ride for a lot of handling.
@LoveWhatYouDrive
@LoveWhatYouDrive 2 жыл бұрын
@@encinobalboa that’s a steal deal, how much more stiffer is the CVPI? I’m sure it’s more performance than comfort like my MGM. At this point I’m just trying to do all the maintenance and get all the parts and pieces up to par. The car was sitting around with previous owner for 3 years and I don’t know the history so I’d rather do it and keep the record of it! I also have a single exhaust 👎🏼 looking out either a stick dual or aftermarket but want it quiet no crazy rumble or loud muscle car sound!
@encinobalboa
@encinobalboa 2 жыл бұрын
@@LoveWhatYouDrive 3 years sitting is not good. Eventually you will get all the leaks sorted and then it will be smooth sailing. CVPI is a lot stiffer than base civilian. Mine corners with minimal roll and no understeer. In slippery conditions, it will oversteer and set off traction control. Ride is sporty and you might think it is stiff if you are expecting sofa ride. Of course, ride vs. handling is a personal preference so anything goes. Dual exhaust is the first thing I would do. Free 15 hp. Unless you are boosting, stock exhaust is more than enough. I actually like quiet exhaust over wannabe Mustang. Police pipes do not have sound dampener so sound marginally more aggressive. If you can find a cheap pair of pipes, install both. Second thing I would do is intake spacer comb delete which improves airflow. If you can find a way to fit CVPI snorkel to your airbox, airflow will improve more. (Civilian and CVPI engine maps are the same so stock tune will be able to handle additional airflow.) 2.73 gears is going to hold you back. 3.27 is nice compromise between sporty and economy. 3.55 is quicker but economy will suffer.

Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate you. Ye I noticed going over bumps and potholes the rear end would also kind of wonder off to the side. After this install of factory dimension sway bar it did tighten up the rear a tad bit but you can definitely notice when going into corners. I’m sure the more heavy duty bars perform much better and stiffer but I’m just here to not race the “boat” but cruise it and have it perform good as a daily. I’m sure the crown Vics are such a blast to drive. I have to find one to compare the difference. Thanks for the info!

Great job on the video -- We just LOVE the steady camera !! The DORMAN Sway Bar is a bare minimum -- Low cost, but low benefits, as well. For a true, High Performance Suspension -- your Panther will need several upgrades, including thicker sway bars, gas shocks, and urethane bushings all around. The famous 96 MERC has been fitted with a 1-1/4th" Front Sway Bar from ADDCO, and a 1" Rear Sway Bar, also from ADDCO. Both Sway Bars and End Links fitted with Urethane bushings. KYB "Police" Gas Shocks all around and Urethane Control Arm bushings complete the suspension upgrades, and the brakes upgraded to Drilled & Slotted Rotors, "Police" Brake Pads, Raybestos Hoses, and D.O.T. 5.1- Hi-Temp Brake Fluid. Steering, Braking, and Handling are superb during long-distance, high-speed touring of the deserts and mountains of the American West. www.mercuryforum.com/forum/grand-marquis-14/1995-grand-marquis-restoration-8937/ 😁

@@LoveWhatYouDrive Yeah, my 96 LS I bought a year old ...I took it back to the dealer and had OEM duals put on it...They lasted till I sold the car in 2009. I bought my 2006 in 2015 and purchased a kit from Walker..so called OEM..didn't last a year till the mufflers started unwrapping...went with another kit from ATP....same thing with that kit..I didn't want any noise from my exhaust...just the dual pipes and exhaust steam coming out both of them...
@LoveWhatYouDrive
@LoveWhatYouDrive 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t want much noise either just a subtle little upgrade, I’m after the dual exhaust performance aspect, I read the duals on the stock form from single exhaust to the dual is 15-20 horsepower. And is an option. What you say? Did you feel a bump in power gains after install?
@joeknowz4898
@joeknowz4898 2 жыл бұрын
@@LoveWhatYouDrive power gains yeah.but only in looks LOL....I think the hp gain wasn't advertised as being more then 10 with factory duel...its only 1 3/4 inch exhaust pipes and a 281 cube engine..with the stock exhaust already there, the dealer only ordered what they needed ..with instal it was about $500...it was a LS with digital dash and clothe seats...I loved every mile of that car. We were at the IINDY 500 time trials in 2007. I told my wive if it rains we'll head home early..It did so we left for home after we checked out of the hotel, We got about 10 miles up the interstate and I had the cruise control on 85, and I kept bumping it up 5 mph at a time. When my wife looked over and said...HHMMM ??? it.doesn't feel like we're going 103....it was as quiet as a mouse...the only noise was from the air rushing around the door mirrors...I sold in 2009 with 137,000 miles to my buddy at work . His son drove it to 245,00 miles....just brakes and tires...what a well built machine....The 06 was just a CS ...less options but the same clothe seats.I found that at a Mercedes Bends dealer in Naperville Ill in 2015. It had only 29,000 miles on it but it was all OEM ...even the tire were original.. The stock dash and A/C, I liked the OEM full chrome bolt on wheel covers and the 16 inch rims/tires...made a much better ride. The only site I found whitewalls tires was on TireBuyer.com $125 apiece..I never pumped up any engine mods or axle specs...just enjoyed the look and the ride....If I could have the 96 back with the 16 inch rims and tires. but the diamond cut 16 X 7"s MANNNNN !!!! I got a little cut out picture from a local car for sale magazine with my dream GM on the side of one of my tool boxes ....I should of had that made into a 8 by 10 glossy ...LOL

What an amazing story! Thanks for sharing. I’m meeting so many awesome people who drive these panthers. And they all have such a cool story and what gets me is how passionate you and others are. I grew up with owning 4 hatchback civics, a coupe, a Toyota pickup a Nissan Xterra, and when we got married we leased out a 2015 Ford Explorer. Man that was a nice ride. But Japan cars all the way. But what I come to find out is that there’s nothing like an American well made car. My dad used to always say “ these boats are sluggish and eat gas, but there’s no comparison to how an American Big car drives” we moved to US in 94 from a country the world hates right now. I was 8 (I’m now 36) and my dads first car was a 91 ford temp and my moms first car was a 86 does LTD man that thing was big for me at the time! But what an experience it was ! I love your passion. This is exactly the video that I was looking for! My grand marquis steering feels super sensitive at highway speeds. I've replaced pretty much the whole front steering & suspension. Someone on a forum with the same problem said a rear sway bar helped with the issue. Have you noticed any change in stability at around 65+ mph?
@LoveWhatYouDrive
@LoveWhatYouDrive Жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by and sharing! I added the bar and it helped with body roll in a good way. I know there are thicker and beefier sway bars and end links out there as performance, but not having any to getting even a stock one helped. I added mine because my rear end would feel like it skips or hops when I hit a bump or pot hole, especially if the car was turning even slightly. It would feel like the rear end would shift. It turned out to be a rear blown shock that was completely blown and seized. (I have the video up of changing the rear shocks.) but a combo of the sway bar and new shocks fixed the problem and completely gave comfort and confidence even at higher speeds 90mph +

@@LoveWhatYouDrive Relax, Man -- It's obvious that you wanna help people learn while YOU are learning, and we want to help you succeed -- BUT -- as others have pointed out, the installation of this OEM-type sway bar tells us absolutely nothing. The ADDCO REAR sway bar is a 1- inch diameter bar, and will greatly improve the COMFORT of your passengers, especially on rural and country roads. The ADDCO FRONT sway bar is 1-1/4th" in diameter. ALL sway bar bushings and end-link bushings SHOULD be made of durable Urethane material -- resists wear and chemicals, never needs replacing. Using high-quality parts is most important -- they usually cost more, but there is always the "Economy of Quality" that keeps us from relying on cheap stuff that doesn't work.

Thanks! Maybe when I upgrade to a p-71 sway bar of if I find justification to purchase a ADTR performance one I’ll remake the video…

@@LoveWhatYouDrive That is something I am considering too. I have a 2002 P71, and although it is a low-mileage police trainer, it sat most of its life, and the bushings and ball joints are all worn/dried out to the point it won't even stay aligned. It will all be replaced soon, but I am wondering about the improvement from bigger aftermarket sway bars as well, since I will already be ripping stuff out. I think I will start with the essentials and move up from there. I miss my 99 Mustang, so now I have a Longstang.

I went from none , to the small Factory one and it helped, I am curious now to go next step up like a p71 sway bar. To see how much better, and then maybe to adtr or something along them lines. That will be a real comparison. But I don’t carve mountain roads or canyons in my Merc, it’s my cruiser and straight line gasser( if I can call it that) so too much for me wont do much…but I am curious! And to have it and not needed is better than needing it and not having it!

How was the ride after you put on the new Dorman swaybar?

Thanks for stopping by, it tightened up the rear end and helped with some body roll. If you can get a bigger diameter bar go with that. I think some of the p71 Vics have thicker bars or adtr have bigger ones but they are over $200. Let us know how it goes and what you decided to do!

So, theres no torque specs? Just tighten to whatever a person thinks is good?

I will not argue with you on that one I have come a long way from that but I do appreciate you stopping by! which gives me an idea to upgrade my rear sway bar to a bigger one and make a legit. “No dumb music” video.
