Very informative video and well done. I have a couple of older Merc 9.8's and enjoy working on them. One thing I would like to add is getting rid of the grey fuel lines on your tank. Over the years the plastic liner in them tends to break down and cause problems with carbs and fuel pumps. I just use the black fuel line from an automotive supply store. Keep the vids coming and happy boating!

Love the video. Very comprehensive. Best one in KZbin. Only thing I'd recommend is that you replace the gear oil AFTER the impeller rebuild, since the impeller rebuild opens the lower reservoir to the shop and could result in small particles of crap falling in there. I have a 2003 that I've stored for 15 years and needs to be maintained. One question: There are tons of bad reviews on Amazon about the chinese 46-42089a5 impeller kit. I looked for quicksilver, but they seem to only admit that kit works on the 4-stroke motors. So outside of going to a Mercury dealer and buying a kit for $150 I am not sure what to do. Update: I got email confirmation that 46-42089A5 works on both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines.

Just one observation: It seems that there is very little water leaving your cooling system? How does the engine run? Doesn't it overheat?
@WanderingWassoms Жыл бұрын
Sometimes the water just trickles out a little bit, especially when RPMs are low and idling, but as you rev up the RPMs more you'll start to see more water passing through to keep it cool. Thank you for watching & commenting! :)

If I may add my 2 pence worth comment to your fine video, putting blue Locktite on bolts isn't about further securing them in,, it's really about keeping the threads from seizing up - a critical concern if you are cruising salt water. The Power Tune won't do much for your carburetor as it is intended to burn down carbon build up in the combustion chamber which could restrict air-fuel and exhaust gases movement and in extreme cases, affect the engine's performance by changing the compression ratio. Happily your's was producing white smoke which was just the PT burning as carbon produces a much darker smoke. Mind you, carbon build-up has become a thing of the past for those that use modern synthetic 2-stroke oil. Regards to you and Angel !

what i did was set the motor upside down on the flywheel that way the pipe cant fallout I also had ome corrosion on the tail section so i used automotive valve cover sealant its heat resistant and oil resistant sinds its sitting near the exaust. Now it will be cooled by water but you never no also the small coper pipe has a rubber booth at the end make sure that's not leaking because it will contaminate the oil in your tail section. Do not forget! When chganging the oil to fill it from the bottom with both screws out when its full it wil come from the top take the bottom screw replace the seal. Make sure not to drop it when pulling out the oil tube and quikly screw in the screw now put in the top one with a new seal and its done.

why do this out at the end of driveway in a townhouse neighborhood when you have a nice garage? other than the bright sunshine for video... why? Nice lil engine stand, but a tools/parts shelf would be big! Lag screws and drilled out countersinking were overkill... but then again, overkill is much better than under-kill! Always, Always, Always... DO a compression check BEFORE ANY $$$ spent on ANY routine maintenance, repairs etc. If the motor has bad compression readings, you're just wasting time and money! Nice job though with commentary and added comments by video operator/helper!
