Meredith is truly extraordinary. She is everything her mother was and more. Everything that her mother failed at, she excelled. Love, Parenting, Relationships. She doesn't sacrifice anything, but is still an exceptional surgeon who wins a Harper Avery award, when even Cristina was blocked by politics. Cristina is a Cardio god, but Meredith is the sun.

"When even Cristina was blocked by politics." Which is bs, the same should have happened to Meredith. It was just bs story plot writing because it's Meredith Grey who basically gets away with anything.

Mendicant_Bias The_Betrayer for the sake of defending the storyline, I think that Mer was able to get the award because of how Richard confronted Catherine about Cristina. Idk maybe change of rules whenever there was someone really exceptional? Because they wouldn’t probably get away with someone not winning the award while getting the most votes without getting bad press? Idk that’s just me

@@IamCanadian3333 It can be assumed that things changed in the background to make it possible. The mistake was in not addressing that when Meredith won. There are a lot of genuinely incredible moments in this series. I feel like it is criminally underappreciated. I haven't seen the last few seasons, and I'd say 14 was a bit below the series' standard, but 1-13 are incredible. 14 was still very good, but felt less cohesive.

Funny how many people seem to believe that Ellis is actually right in that scene. I mean, Ellis was indeed an extraodinary surgeon, and how did that work out for her ? Unhappy first marriage, cheated on her husband, got dumped by Richard, abandonned her second child, tried to kill herself, made her daughter life miserable... Does that sound like a fulfilling life to you ? Plus, Meredith is not blindly in love, she's a great intern, a hard worker, and now we know that she grew up to be an amazing surgeon AND managed to keep a perfectly balanced personnal life. Ellis was a great surgeon, but that was all she had and as a human being she is truly despicable.

I love this relationship. It is unfortunate Shonda killed Ellis off. When Ellis is telling her to be extraordinary, she's telling Meredith not to be like her. She wants Meredith to be better than her. She just doesn't see being a doting wife and a doting mother as being real goals for her or her daughter. She wants Meredith not... to let a man drive her to cut her wrists for attention. Not to let a man's abundance of ego or low self esteem slow down her growth or make her feel inadequate. I think that's why Meredith becomes so happy when she realizes her mother wasn't really saying you'll never measure up to me but, really, saying "I want you to be better than me" in season 4 (with the therapy). I love that Ellis is not maternal to a dysfunctional degree. It happens. She was career oriented and she had a child by accident with a man she didn't really love. She finds herself left with the kid she didn't really want without the man she didn't really want and with a career that now has that much more obstacles in front of it. Meredith becomes predominantly an obstacle. What I do think is unfortunate was the suicide "attempt" they wrote in. I don't feel Ellis would have ever done that for attention or for real. I love that Meredith could not hate Ellis and low-key worships her despite how messed up Ellis is (as a mother). I imagine there may have been a few moments of near warmth and sometimes a child hangs on to that with a death grip.

I understand both. Yes Meredith got distracted. As a woman you should try to find your career and path first because love indeed gets you distracted. And we can all agree, Derek was not the best for Meredith at first. He completely manipulated her MULTIPLE times (Ellis knew this). Which is why she went off on Derek lol. On the other hand, Meredith needed a Mother. She needed someone to give her motherly love and support but Ellis is a strong surgeon who lacked empathy towards that stuff. It’s just who Ellis is. And this is very upsetting because Meredith did lose a Mother, Lexie’s Mom.

Scenes like this illustrate why I could never get into "Greys Anatomy". Because right from the start Meredith has always been the go to character when it comes to a never ending array of personal setbacks and tragedy. From an emotionally distant career focused mother to a father that up and left her when she was a child, to losing multiple loved ones (abruptly), to miscarrying a child whilst performing surgery no less, to being brutally attacked, to near drowning to surviving plane crashes, to falling for someone only for their ex to show up after been missing for years, Meredith isn't a person anymore. Instead, she's a ridiculously indestructible plot device. Granted she's upset and teary eyed for a few episodes after something awful has happened to her, but sure enough she bounces back to her usual level headed self before too long whilst maintaining a high profile successful career (and winning awards) with kids and a nice home to boot as if nothing terrible ever took place. Simply put, she is a tool for the writers to throw every possible disaster at, that a person can face. Anyone who has been through half of what Meredith has gone through would have either lost their minds or the will to live but good old Mere keeps soldiering on because the show requires her to do so.......

@@woohooboy I'd get it if this was a video of the bomb in a chest, shooting or plane crash because that's definitely made for tv drama, but this video is a normal case scenario in terms of someone dealing with a difficult life thing. @woohooboy3 жыл бұрын
@@judigemini178 - My take on Meredith is on the whole and not just this clip. Over the last sixteen years, she has endured more heartbreak than a dozen people would go through in their entire lives. Granted this is a tv series, but it never feels as though the writers treat Meredith as an actual character. Rather they view her as someone (ie: plot device) who needs to go through yet another crushing personal setback/tragedy because we can't have her too happy for too long.
