This is not only useful for painting and drawing. This is how art itself works!! If we read a novel, we don't need to know ALL the life of EVERY single character or what they're doing every second; we just need to know the things that complements the argument of the whole story. Same for the cinema. In music we don't need every single sound to play a melody on their own; even Bach (king of polyphony) guided our focus to a single important theme while the others just completed the MOOD of the piece. And I could continue talking about other disciplines of art, but I think my point has been settled. Thank you Marco!! :D Yours is a really great content youtube channel!!

Other instructors can learn a thing or two from you in that regard. We need less rambly unedited videos of someone talking while they draw on youtube.

Great advice! I like what you said about the frustrating beginning of a painting. Deciding on a subject and composition worth spending so much time on always gets me flustered and leads to me giving-up. Once I have the basics established, I'm more content to proceed even if I have to practice a lot in order to get it out.
@necaacen

great insights, i think putting into perspective a set of ideas a lot of us artists inherently feel but havent really encapsulated and explored in the way we should so that we can consciously apply them. i see a lot of people who like comic/anime style drawing feeling really down about their art classes at college/university, the way they feel their teachers constantly making them do abstract work and not letting them draw cartoon schoolgirls with guns. what ur saying about all paintings being abstract is so true, theres things to be learned from abstract that then apply back to all painting, its reducing art down to the foundations of shape, value, composition that underpin every piece and when u get them right its hard to fail, and when u get them wrong it usually dooms the work.
