no merg, the end of the path of pain is a memory of the pale king and the hollow knight as a child. that explains that the hollow knight wasn't truly hollow, because they spent time with the pale king. this also explains why the hollow knight failed to contain the infection completely.

Limit for White Defender is 5 defeats. Unlike Zote, you actually get more lore for beating him max times. Geez you're beating Path of Pain much, MUCH faster than anyone I know. 29:42 are you serious there was a hidden soul statue there and here i am thought this was the only checkpoint with no statue Merg, I *did* expect you to survive the double Kingsmould at the end, but wow you were close to dying. No, that wasn't you with Pale King. Look at the vessel's horns. You should recognize them. 3rd Zote is the one that is in Godhome. So, I'd want 5 Defenders and 4 Zotes. I already said why 5 for Defender, but 4 for Zote because 4th defeat is the last defeat when anything interesting happens unless you count the golden Zote statue for 10th defeat. Yeah, this comment is shorter than I usually write, but I'm in a hurry and the episode mostly spoke for itself so yeah. Have fun doing whatever you're doing next.

20:08 I'm not sure you understand how hiveblood works. If you take damage and then go for 10-15 seconds without getting hit again, the charm will heal one mask. Only one though, if you have taken two masks of damage it will still only heal one mask. Getting hit before the heal resets the timer. Because of this, it would be incredibly useful in hard parlour areas: you fail, wait a little while in your safe area, and its like nothing ever happened. You could have gone with Kingsoul as well, since it automatically gives you soul, instead of farming it on Wingsmoulds.

So Pale King sabotaged his own plan by spending time with the hollow knight.

Nice job on doing the Path of Pain, fighting the White Defender and Grey Prince Zote again!! More tips! 1.) The White Defender can be fought up to five times (five representing the Five Great Knights). You are correct that each time you fight him it’ll increase in damage, speed and HP. The reward in the end is cute if you want to see it. 2.) Grey Prince Zote can be fought up to ten times but four times will trigger something to happen. Again like White Defender he will increase in difficulty each time. (Each time also adds another adjective to his name as well) Lore Tips 1.) The background in the White Defender fight shows you the other four knights as well as the Pale King. If you look closely you can recognize some of them (one of them you can confirm is by wearing the Defender’s Crest while talking to the White Lady). Also Ogrim is Dung/White Defender’s real name. 2.) What you saw at the end of the Path of Pain is a memory (most likely the Pale King’s). He is seen sharing a moment with a young Vessel but that Vessel is not you. If you look closely you see that the horns are slightly bigger and shaped differently. This will make sense once you go to the Birthplace. Anyway good luck with the rest of the fights!!

Awesome, another Hollow Knight video! :D - Pay close attention to the silhouettes in the back of White Defender's arena; you may remember Sheo and the Nailsmith mentioning the Five Great Knights of Hallownest. You've met them all in some form or another--maybe the silhouettes will help you recognize them... As an extra pointer, you can go to the White Lady while wearing the Defender's Crest. The names Sheo mentioned were "Mighty Hegemol, fierce Dryya, kindly Isma, mysterious Ze'mer...erm, and the other one." - One tip for White Defender, if you want a super-safe and super-cheesy strategy, just hide in the corner! As you probably saw, the dung balls rarely hit you there, and it's pretty easy to knock them away if they look like they're going to. It is quite tedious to fight him this way, though; I'd only recommend it for the higher levels. - For levels 3+ I might recommend abandoning healing charms and going full Lifeblood. - Can confirm, Dung/White Defender is Ogrim. The lore surrounding him is easily one of the most bittersweet things in this game. It may be challenging, but it's well worth it to defeat all five levels; you get a ton of dialogue and a nice reward after. You wouldn't have to do it all in the same day, of course. *Try Dream Nailing him during the fight!* - Level 5 White Defender is infinitely easier than level 10 Grey Prince Zote, and the reward for White Defender is much better. Just saying :') - I'm not sure if you know this, but Grubberfly's Elegy actually only does half as much damage as a regular nail strike. - Jeez, the Path of Pain. I've completed it three (technically four..?) times, but watching you do it was way more nerve wracking than it should have been. By the end my hands were trembling as if I was the one playing...it's an extremely difficult challenge, but I personally think it's fun. I love the platforming in Hollow Knight. I wish you had the option to complete the White Palace/Path of Pain more than once per save file... - That was not you sitting with the Pale King in that cutscene, but I understand why you'd think it was. That Vessel's horns were slightly thicker and shaped a bit differently; they do look familiar, though, don't they? - Spells are good against Grey Prince Zote, especially Descending Dark.

Hey merg so basically the dung defender was one of the five knights along with: Ze'mr the the flower delivery quest one, Isma which was pretty close to the dung defender ogrim and at times was kind of a teacher to him, and from now on I dont remember any of their names so yeah, the actual owner of the False knight shell, and the Queen's gurdian. and in the white defender fight they are standing in the background with the pale king.

The cutscene at the end of the Path of Pain isn't showing you, the Knight, it is showing the Hollow Knight as a "kid" with the Pale King. The Hollow Knight was supposed to be the perfect Vessel for the Infection/Corruption. To be a perfect vessel means that you have to be completely empty, meaning no feelings, no thoughts, no desires, no voice ... nothing at all. So why could the Infection spread if the Hollow Knight contained it? Well, the Hollow Knight WAS perfect, but he and the Pale King became too close to one another, like a father-son relationship, so the Hollow Knight developed feelings towards his father or emotions in general. So that scene basically shows that the Pale King made the perfect vessel feel something and with that the vessel is no longer perfect. As for the 5 figures in the dream of the Dung Defender, those were 4/5 of the great Knights of Hallownest and the Pale King. The Pale King died in his Palace and might be dead for real OR he did change forms again, like he did when he was a wyrm and changed into the Pale King. Hegemol (person far right) can't be found in the game, but you fight his armor with a maggot in it. The False Knight apperently stole his armor and presumably killed Hegemol in his sleep while doing so. Hegemol can be alive still since you can't find his corpse anywhere but i think the maggot just straight up murdered him in his sleep. Isma (person right of Pale King) is the lover of the Dung Defender aka Ogrim. She can be found dead in Isma's grove. It is not known how she died (i think) but it is known that she was very close with Ogrim. Ze'mer (person far left) can actually be found in-game! She/He is the Grey Mourner (pls do the Quest). She/He was in love with the child of the Traitor Lord's child, but that love was forbidden so... the Traitor Lord's child got executed for that? i m not sure about that one. Anyway, that's why you have to deliver the flower to the Traitor Lod's child' grave. Dryya (person left of Pale King) is dead, She can be found next to where the White Lady is, dead next to the entrance. Her mission was to protect the Queen, which she did because there are tons of Traitor mantises dead around her, but she died while doing so. The last Great Knight is Ogrim aka the Dung Defender aka the White Defender. Lorewise it is only known that he had a deep relationship with Isma and he was banished from the Kingdom because he did something bad or wrong. Not sure but i'm pretty sure he had some kind of Obsession over something and was cast out of the town for that if i remember correctly (probably dung obsession lol). Also the Pale King used Void essence to make living creatures like the Kingsmoulds you see in the White Palace. Also the White Palace you are in is not a Dream, it is the real white palace. Why? The Relic Seeker says that the White Palace one day just vanished without a trace, which is also indicated by the dream dialogue from all the dead worshippers around the entrance of the White palace. It was probably a testing or training ground to find the perfect strinngest vessel to contain the infection. Things that you still have to do: - Grey mourner Quest - use Divine to upgarde all of your breakable charms, then visit the Leg Eater - Defeat Nightmare King Grimm (you have to for Godhome anyway ;P) - use kingsoul - get the endings - do godhome (last pls, makes the most sense + doesn't spoil the endings you will get with the transformed kingsoul) love your Let's play and am looking forward to Godhome + rest sry for bad english/mistakes etc. won't correct them now ;P

Woah, dude, you're soooo good at videogames and entertaining, the Path of Pain took me at least more than 200 attempts, that was so frustrating, I spent entire nights on that thing, and you did it probably in only 2 hours, woah! Keep the good work Merg! Love u
