Merida eOne-Sixty Review
One e-bike, two e-bike personalities.
The E-Bike Evolution
Combining dialled enduro geometry with the latest Shimano drive units the Merida eOne-Sixty offers solutions to the most pressing e-MTB question: lighter weight or longer range?
170/174mm Travel Front/Rear | 29”/27.5” Mixed Wheels
85Nm Max Torque | 600Wh or 750Wh Battery Pack
Merida EOne-Sixty First Look
We teamed up with Merida to put these new e-bikes through their paces in the Forrest of Dean. Have a look at our video to see what we thought.
Two Full Power E-Bike Personalities
The Merida eOne-Sixty range is split into two different flavours (three if you count the eOne-Forty). All share the same progressive geometry and full power Shimano EP801 drive unit but are optimized for different ridder priorities.
The eOne-Sixty CF prioritises lower weight for uncompromised handling while the eOne-Sixty focuses on maximum range.
EOne-Sixty CF
Low weight, uncompromised handling, maximum power.
With a full carbon frame and non-removable 600Wh battery pack the eOne-Sixty CF offers full-power e-bike performance at mid-power weight - under 22Kg for top-of-the-range models. Being non-removable the battery is positioned closer to the motor lowering the centre of mass. Also, without the need for cutouts the frame is stiffer and lighter. This means that the CF models offer improved handling characteristics for a more dynamic ride.
EOne-Sixty Lite
Range is king. Full power, all the time.
The eOne-Sixty Lite models have an aluminium frame with a larger 750Wh battery pack. This is removable so you can charge it off the bike if you wish. These bikes have the same geometry and suspension configuration as the carbon framed bikes with extra battery capacity for longer range. While these bikes are heavier than the CF models their weight is equivalent to most other full power eMTBs so they’re not overly heavy.
Manoeuvrability & Agility
The geometry on both the eOne-Sixty CF & Lite - inspired by the award winning One-Sixty regular MTB - features a 64.4° head tube angle with 446mm chainstays and 479 mm reach in size L. This offers a stable ride over rough terrain and manoeuvrability in tight turns.
Both the CF & Lite feature hard-hitting suspension which makes them both suitable for riding extreme terrain. Mullet wheels come as standard on all sizes, but a flip chip allows for a 29” rear wheel to be fitted while maintaining geometry.
Shimano STePS Power
The Shimano EP801 motor is probably the lightest full power motor (2.6Kg) on the market but still offers up to 85Nm of torque with 600W of peak power to get you up the steepest climbs with ease. It has a reputation for reliability and offers intuitive support with customization options available via the E-TUBE PROJECT app.
The colour display is safely positioned next to the stem and the three ride assist modes, plus walk assist, are easy to select with the handlebar mounted rocker switch.
Extended Range
A massive 360Wh range extender battery pack is available and can be fitted to all models. This is easily clipped onto the downtube of the bike and increases battery capacity to 960Wh on the CF and 1,110Wh on the Lite models. With this extender fitted you get incredible range with the new Merida eOne-Sixty.
Agilometer Sizing
A unique feature of the Merida eOne-Sixty is that all sizes are fitted with an adjustable length dropper post. You can set the travel of the dropper post anywhere between 30 and 230mm on all the bikes, which means that you aren’t restricted by rider height when choosing a bike size.
If you want a longer or shorter bike than is usually recommended you can be sure that you will be able to achieve your optimum seat height and be able to drop the saddle all the way down to the frame when you need to.
Whether you choose to go for lighter weight or longer range the third generation Merida eOne-Sixty e-bikes give you all the performance you expect from a highly capable full-power eMTB with unique features that deliver a more refined ride than most.
