Gorgeous, simply gorgeous ... Thank you God and thank you Merle for making listening to this possible. Funny, something so small, in a way, just a memory when the song is done, yet, the embodiment of everything that is worthwhile in this world.

I grew up with Merle"s singing, love him always, miss him so much, but the boys are caring on the tradition of country, I'm 76 years old and never thought I would live long enough to see all the Country Singers we are losing daily. I have been blessed with the best of country.

I remember the first time I heard this song...It was at a HAG show right before this album was released. Great stuff. Album released in 2000 titled, "If I Could Only Fly".

Why no acknowledgment of the songwriter Blaze Foley. It’s his song, not Merle’s.
@AndrewJacksonJohnson2 жыл бұрын
Yes, Martha, Blaze Foley (RIP) wrote and first recorded this great song. Blaze's version is great also. Giving all the due respect and acknowledgment to Blaze Foley, you have to admit that Merle's interpretation is just so soulful and beautiful. But thanks for pointing out this very important song fact.

I usually like a songwriters version of a song but without Merle’s interpretation of this amazing song it would have never been heard by the masses.

I’m a new fan of Merle’s singing he’s a wonderful magical singer and treasured the past songwriters and gave credit where credits is due. I’ve heard his songs for years sang by others without realising this man sang. I know Gram Parsons worshipped him. I can see now why he is/was a legend. There is such poignancy in his voice. May his music live on.🎶🎶🎶
