It certainly is a sadder place without Blaze. Regret that my family moved to Austin area too late to see him perform.

Sure is and Blaze's version is still the best of all the rest.

I remember the first time I heard this song...It was at a HAG show right before this album was released. Great stuff. Album released in 2000 titled, "If I Could Only Fly".

Not even close to Blaze Foley’s version, he lived the lyrics in his own life.

it's important to me that folks know the original version, and the person that lived through what it took to write the song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH63aGmVor53jJI

This song belongs to the writer and singer of this beautiful song. It is Blaze Foley. Not merle haggard.

Do y’all know how many songs Merle gave to young up and comers? Some unfinished. Do y’all know how many musicians that went into the twilight because of new fads, that he asked to come play in the studio? Who exactly did Blaze Foley help? Merle didn’t compete against songs he shared

Well Blaze did help one of the most prolific and original country singers of the era, Townes Van Zandt
