The best tech stack currently if you want to do both frontend and backend is: React + Java (for big companies). For small startups: mernstack, sure. But if you're good at either frontend or backend, and want to become fullstack (for some reason) pick one from these two. If you're a fresher/college kid looking for a fullstack job mern stack is a good option to start with.

Having 12 years exp in tech and now working in SAP Labs, I would say that big orgs don't choose a complete stack like MERN or anything like that. They choose a lot of different technologies in both frontend and backend. So learning MERN stack doesn't mean you will get a job in that stack, may be you will be proficient in those 4 among other 20 different technologies used by the company. But for startups, yes they use a well known stack to save time.

Dude when will this chase for tech stacks get ended. It is not a questions of which tech stack you are in unless you choose somethig which has'nt been used for a decade. What matters is how good of an engineer you are. If you are a backend developer pick any popular stack like node, spring boot or django and master it thoroughly. Once you master it build good utility based projects and explore other stack exisitng parallely. Good problem solving and development skills get you paid not a specific tech stack. And no company operates in only one tech so they look for a person who is a master of his art and is adaptable to other stacks.

This field will not run for more than 10-15 years. Today u need 8 junior devs for a project later you will need only 2-3 coz they can use ai. So the job opening will go less and less and less. This is WHY I am leaving it (still thinking) it's not worth anymore. Pls go check job portals and Indian market and then us market u will know reality! Yes it's a good place to start for non coders but unless u are too good u won't get a job at all and even if you'll get one it will be very less priced and ask for many skills.
