Meross Wi-Fi SmartPlug with HomeKit - Unboxing, Setup and Review

The Meross WiFi smart plug with HomeKit support works with Apple, Android, Alexa and SmartThings for remote control of otherwise dumb lights or devices. It's really easy to get setup - I was able to get the smart plug setup on all four platforms in less than ten minutes and if you don’t believe me check out the video below. Sorry, I missed your comment last month - it coincided with another popular video. Yes, you can set up "Routines" which can either be "On/off on a schedule" or "Auto off after X min". You can set a time or for the on/off there's also sunset and sunrise (with an offset if needed).

Yes. Whatever you plug into the Meross. will turn on and off, so if it is a whole gang extension then everything plugged into. the extension will turn on/off.

dont understand how the lights know - which one is to off ?? do we need to buy special bulbs with it also to get integrated with these apps and merross

Yes, you need to buy smart bulbs. There are two types, those that connect using wifi (like bulbs from Meross and LIFX) and those that connect using ZigBee (like Philips Hue, Ikea Tradfri, Innr) - these need a central hub. I'd start with the WiFi ones to see how you get on. Note that the really cheap bulbs aren't worth buying - the light quality will be poor or will fail quickly.

Bought three, cannot be set-up as methods server that app requires is not working any more. Sending back v- no wonder they're cheap!!

I bought a 4 pack. They only stay connected to the network for 24 hours before becoming unresponsive in home. Then they can’t be readded to HomeKit despite resetting it.

That seems odd. I'm not a HomeKit user but doing a quick search reveals that you aren't alone. I don't have issues with mine, but I'm using the native app on Android plus Smartthings. I would check a few of the suggestions online but if they still don't work, send them back.

Yes, you can use the Meross app to setup Routines which can turn the switch on and off aat certain times. You can also use sunset and sunrise as triggers.

How do I change to 2.4GHz WiFi network

You have to use your WiFi configuration page (probably on your router) to either temporarily turn off the 5 GHz band or else give it a different name. So in my house, my 2.4 GHz network is called Waterworld and my 5 GHz network is Waterworld5. That way I always know which network my devices are connecting on.

Do you happen to have WiFi on both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz? If so trying temporarily turning of the 5 GHz SSID.

John, your new router probably has a different wireless SSID and password from the old one, so you'll have to set them up again. Alternatively, you could try setting the SSID and pw of your new router to match those of your old one.

No. Should take less than 30s. Reboot and try again.

It saves energy if you turn off something that would otherwise use electricity. So I have a smart socket that turns off my TV and games consoles overnight so that they don't waste energy in standby.

On the Android app, tap on the device to take you into Device Settings. Then select Device Name to edit the name. Don't forget to press Save.

Can I set it up with meross app on an Apple iPhone?

There is a Meross app in the Apple App store and it's very similar to the Android one. However, the app is only really built for an iPhone and looks terrible on iPad.

@Nambo....ahhhh you see once I'd set it up in Android with the Meross app, the Meross app on Apple already knew about it once I'd logged in with Meross credentials. So I never went through the setup process with the Meross app on iPad.

Ronnie, I'm sorry but the Meross smart plug I have doesn't do energy monitoring - you must have a newer one. I'm afraid I can't check the app as it will only work with my device.

That's really annoying. I haven't tried to do this, but it is it possible you're trying to connect the plug to a 5 GHz network, or else may be choosing a wifi network that might be on a slightly non-standard wifi channel, e.g. channel 13?

Could you clarify why you think that? I don't have a HomePod so can't test, but my understanding is that the HomePod has Siri built-in, and Siri can control HomeKit devices.
