The main reason Ford discontinued the Crown Vic was because stability control couldn't be adapted to the Panther platform without costly modifications. That's why there was a small number of 2012 models that were illegal for sale in the U.S. (They were destined to be sold in GCC countries where they were popular.) While that platform was reliable, (I have one that is 30 years old with 500,000 miles and I haven't touched the engine.) it had been in production since Jimmy Carter was President, in 1978, for the 1979 model year with a significant update in 2003. That car has a frame; and not just a frame, but, a fully-boxed frame. It could take a licking and keep on tickin' as John Cameron Swayze would say about Timex watches.

I think Carlos is on a mission to destroy Chrysler, Dodge,and Jeap. And he's doing a hell of a job. Chrysler really needs another Lee Iacocca. He was the best person to happen not only to Chrysler but also to Ford. He was behind the Mustang, the Falcon, all the Chrysler's of the 1980's and saved Chrysler back in the day.

It's been a problem with them since they were released in 2019. The problem only occurs on the Pursuit Durangos. The civilian versions don't have oil coolers and the SRT version have a billet version. Durango Pursuit vehicles are crap. I have several dealer repair forms, including one complete engine rebuild done by dodge because of the issue. They refused to do anything to help us when this happened again on some of the same Durangos. Out of the 12 Durangos we have 11 have had the oil cooler failure at least once and some more than once. I have one Durango that did not have an oil cooler failure. Why?, because we removed the oil cooler, and bypassed it. 56K miles and zero issues with it. Truth be told, we also have 9 chargers, and all of them have been excellent. 4 of them have over 100K on them, and have only had a few minor issues. Our chargers have been solid, and of course dodge discontinued them in 2023, go figure. And no, we are no longer purchasing any Dodge products, period.

We also were forced to buy some Durangos, as the wait for Tahoes is upwards of 30 months. We got some F150 Responders in addition to the Durangos. The Durangos have been experiencing battery issues. Under warranty we were charged for battery replacement, as Dodge in their wisdom put the battery under the passenger seat. A prisoner partition blocks access to the battery, so the seat has to be removed. What a fantastic place to put the battery, when they know police vehicles get partitions. The F150's haven't been any better, mine has 35,000 miles and is already on the third engine. It's been down for a total of a year and Ford doesn't care. None of the manufacturers gives any thought to anything except their profit. Once the dealer has your money they just hope you go away. Our local dealers are so backed up you have to make an appointment four weeks in advance for an oil change.

Chrysler has never been known for mechanical reliability. In the late '50's, when they went to that Torsion-aire front suspension the torsion bars literally snapped. The one I liked the best was that "Lean Burn" system they had in beginning in 1977 on some of their engines; it was a rudimentary computer system that controlled some engine functions. They attached the computer for the system to the air cleaner housing, directly over the driver's side exhaust manifold, so you get vibration and heat, both enemies of electronics. Those computers would develop breaks in the circuitry and the car would die, then the engine would fire again. I had a customer with one that blew the exhaust system off the car. Then Lee Iacocca took over and we got the K-cars and now this.....Our government has bailed this company out several times beginning in 1979. Why? GREAT VIDEO!

The thing that Dodge should do for prolonged idle periods is a high idle system that would allow the engine to idle up to 1000 rpms. This can be done through the cruise control. Add the Hellcat oil pump across the V8 line and you are sorted.

The 345 and 392 and Hellcat engine, rely on splash oiling for the camshaft cams. If you idle them a lot, they eat their cams. They need min 1,500rpm for proper camshaft oiling.

@marcbjorg4823 (SARCASM) Camshaft cams? Then how do the hydraulic lifters receive oil? How is oil pumped up the pushrods to the rocker arms? (SARCASM)

@@mitchharper_rule62, the hydraulic lifters get oil through the hollow pushrods. But it is not enough to lube the cams at low rpm.

@mitchharper_rule62Ай бұрын
@marcbjorg4823 That's not correct. Oil goes up the pushrods, not down. There are oil Galleries supplying oil pressure to the hydraulic lifters that forces oil up the pushrods, not down. Back in the '90's I worked at both Ford and GM dealerships and saw how they ran their businesses....and the most interesting part was how each treated their suppliers. If you were making parts for Ford...and went one year without a warranty claim on your parts...you got a nice bonus! Same thing happening at GM meant that they cut your price because they 'weren't paying for perfection'. Too many warranty claims got you in trouble with GM...but they felt they needed to see a certain number or they were paying too much for the parts. That's largely what got GM into the downward quality spiral and when we replaced failed parts they almost always were different than the part that had failed. Every year they claimed to be building the most excellent vehicles available...but then had to admit that their last few years production had issues but 'they're all fixed now'! Nope. Beancounters ruin every company they infiltrate.

I wonder who maintained those Durango pursuit vehicles? I do believe they were shipped with the 3.6L V-6. If you have a ham-fisted wrench monkey twisting on the oil filter cap (ABS), you will definitely crack the base, which is also a part of the oil cooler. Just make sure you use a torque wrench and keep it below 18 lb.-ft. Why is it that *they* are having these problems? I don't see the service bays loaded with those vehicles using the Pentastar engine. For those who cannot take the time or effort to use a torque wrench they do make an aftermarket all aluminum oil cooler/filter base.

Since Carlos is the Head of the Snake the State should file fraud and criminal charges against him as well as a rico charge and issue an international arrest warrant for him reckless endangerment

As long as stellantis keeps giving loans to anybody with a heartbeat, they, unfortunately will continue to sell. Someone I work with was paying $660.00 per month for a 6 cylinder challenger. The sticker price was $25,000. At time of payoff he will have paid $57,000. People are to stupid to figure it out.

@@ramrider1453 I had some amazing Jeep products back in the day, but I don't trust most of the current products. My 2018 Alfa was an absolute disaster. My last Dodge was in 1986. But no more Chrysler/Stellantis/FCA products for me, but go for it if you enjoy them. Even at 30-35% of sticker they are simply not worth the money to me.

Stellantis and Carlos Tevares need to sell the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram brands to a company that will respect them and the public to whom they are marketing.
@joggernerd8148Ай бұрын
As I look at it yes stellantis should correct this crap, but these police departments could just look to the aftermarket. There are plenty of aluminum oil coolers on the market now. I’ve upgraded the cooler on my 3.6 Ram. It’s a great engine other than that OEM plastic cooler.
@jeronronnunkoffunk4691Ай бұрын
Excellent report me, as another viewer and common stated yeah Carlos Tavares does need to be investigated and he should get in a whole heap of damn trouble if this is the case because what he’s doing is causing a whole damn chain effect of tragedies and possibly dangerous situations

Thank you TK !!
@jackpalczynski7884Ай бұрын
Is the failure the stupid oil filter/cooler where oil and coolant merge in the plastic piece that's been failing on the 3.6 forever? If this fails in my Jeep, I'll be going the route most guys do now and buy an aftermarket all aluminum piece. What would be the most reliable would be to eliminate this completely. Go back to a metal spin on filter and run a separate oil cooler fed with a couple lines.

At this point in time, much to my chagrin, I don't think Chrysler and Dodge will recover from all of this travesty, all at the hands of Carlos Tavares. I love my Chrysler 300c Platnuim and Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Hemi, but what happens when their dealers go under?
@patrick39432Ай бұрын
So Merrillville wants to sell them. Who would buy them?
@lazarjdАй бұрын
Tavares is only capable of leading a European company and we're seeing it now. Also, I've met the AG of Indiana and he is from a community close to Merrillville. He will go after them hard.
@sir.tacocartbearson1569Ай бұрын
A little bit of internet searching before buying these 3.6 pentistar motors would have told the city it was a bad idea. They kind of get what they deserve. In all honesty im no fan of dodge chrysler jeep as a mechanic but the aftermarket world has made a updated part for cheaper and they can be replaced in A few hours. Not saying you should under warranty but it is a option.

The Police departments have top grade automobile mechanics, top grade automobile experts. They stepped away from Ford because if you hit a Taurus at 80 mph from the rear it might burn. Really. Then these experts actually studied the Durango and Chargers then decided They would be a good replacement. That is like replacing your aging KZ1000s with H.D.s. They decided to buy something they wanted to be dependable not what they knew was dependable.

I'm very surprised that any agency even bothers with DCX to present Mopars since they're as much of an import as Honda, Toyota, BMW, Volvo, etc. instead of buying from USA owned companies i.e. Ford or GM. Although it seems to be mostly Indiana agencies having problems with their Durangos; not the CHP, Arkansas SP, etc. That alone is weird
