@@Circa1313 Passing a turn without doing anything should basically never happen with Faldorn on board, especially with how much mana she had. If you have 9 untapped lands, use faldorn to look for something better - even another land at least gets you a wolf!

@@goberthicks You could also have blocked and chorded after blockers where declared. If I did the maths right, you would have survived the attack, and Ben would have died. Daredevil allows you to cast the exiled the whole turn. PS: The Managorger hydra also get counters from your cascaded spells :P

The discussion between Olivia and Ben about Commander damage is interesting because they're both right. Ben is correct that Commander damage is a mechanic that is both a chore to track and completely irrelevant in the vast majority of games. But it's also an important safety valve given how the format has devolved into infinite combos, including infinite lifegain, as well as giving voltron-style decks viable wincons. Fun episode, great guests, hope everyone has a happy holiday.

I am surprised Olivia didn't make a Meria, Scholar of Antiquity for this, seeing as it is a Gruul Artifact deck, and alot of the cards from her precon would work in it, as she has an Exile effect on her... Well there is always next time. Also love the series, keep up the good work.

That was really fun to watch! Congrats on 50 awesome episodes! Your show is the only Spelltable one that I can stand watching, because the cam and audio quality is mostly pretty good! The only thing that really caught my eye was that Brian got his Xenagos devotion wrong. When Xenagos was cast, the devotion was 5, so he would have entered as an enchantment and then the devotion would have been 7 and he switched to being a creature. Don't think it would have changed the outcome of the game much, but at least he wouldn't have triggered the battledriver and couldn't have killed the Colossus.

@ben commander damage is a great mechanic... last week I took everyone out with commander damage at the table with my Queen. Ayula is commander who mauls people to death, yes it could chip away with commander damage but she normally roars into battle with 18 power. Plus commander damage is another awnser for lifelink decks, cause it doesn't matter how much life you gain when you take 21 commander damage.

at 53:45 ben misplays the Zenith. Unbound flourishing doubles the value of X, not copying the spell. X would have been 16.

The double part only factors in for permanent spells. When you activate an ability with X in its mana cost or cast an instant or sorcery spell (which Green Sun’s Zenith falls under) you copy the spell or ability rather than double the singular X, so he played it correctly.

So, i looked and didn't see anyone mention Brian's mistake at around the 37 min mark. Xenagos does not enter as a creature unless there is already 7 devotion before it enters. it should have entered as an enchantment then became a creature. This wouldn't trigger the Ogre Battledriver ability. so the cultivator colossus would have lived to do more carnage.

Magic is hard and everyone misses triggers all the time :). These are just the ones i remember at the end of the episode on Olivias side. Not that it would have really mattered, but Olivia would have had 2 wolves in her last turn (dire fleet daredevil [was cast from exile/cascade] and chord of calling [was cast from exile]). Then she would've could've 2 additional wolves from the Etali-Trigger. [Not attacking] And Faldorns ability was a possibility all the time when she only pulled lands ^^. As I said Magic is hard and it's easy to analyze games from the comfort of the chair behind a monitor. The most important thing to remember is to have fun :). And this episode was very much fun to watch :)! The sass between Olivia and Ben at the start was awesome and promised many shenanigan :). Eilidh should definitly play Svella again and try to pop off. That Florahedron was just... so disappointing but entertaining to watch :D. We all had the moment where we hoped for something big and awesome and pulled a 1-mana creature. I wish you all a merry Gruul-mas :) !

Honestly, Ben just irritates me at times. Commander damage is *staggeringly* easy, you have to keep track of three whole positive integers Three... If you are feeling frisky you have to keep track of 12... but only if someone actually *took*/dealt combat damage with their commander... I mean his game has locations that come up that say nothing can be played here and others that say "can't be played here of certain values", when *that* comes up, *that* is arbitrarily complicated and annoying.
