@@Circa1313 Passing a turn without doing anything should basically never happen with Faldorn on board, especially with how much mana she had. If you have 9 untapped lands, use faldorn to look for something better - even another land at least gets you a wolf!

@@goberthicks You could also have blocked and chorded after blockers where declared. If I did the maths right, you would have survived the attack, and Ben would have died. Daredevil allows you to cast the exiled the whole turn. PS: The Managorger hydra also get counters from your cascaded spells :P

The discussion between Olivia and Ben about Commander damage is interesting because they're both right. Ben is correct that Commander damage is a mechanic that is both a chore to track and completely irrelevant in the vast majority of games. But it's also an important safety valve given how the format has devolved into infinite combos, including infinite lifegain, as well as giving voltron-style decks viable wincons. Fun episode, great guests, hope everyone has a happy holiday.

At 48:06, when Ben puts his card back on top of his deck, Brian gets a bit flustered, as if he didn't expect him to do that. Then Ben realizes he should have looked at the top card before putting the card back on top. Did Brian have a better read on the proper play pattern for Ben's deck than Ben did?!?! Are all Pro players like that? I can't imagine having the ability to know just my own play patterns that well. Then throw in being able to assess 3 other people's play patterns to the same degree?!!!!! That's just sick.

That was really fun to watch! Congrats on 50 awesome episodes! Your show is the only Spelltable one that I can stand watching, because the cam and audio quality is mostly pretty good! The only thing that really caught my eye was that Brian got his Xenagos devotion wrong. When Xenagos was cast, the devotion was 5, so he would have entered as an enchantment and then the devotion would have been 7 and he switched to being a creature. Don't think it would have changed the outcome of the game much, but at least he wouldn't have triggered the battledriver and couldn't have killed the Colossus.

I genuinely think the Faldorn precon was one of the best theyve made out of the box in a while, its so cool. Shame it didnt do much this game (except killing brian goddamn), but i can’t wait to see it the next time it shows up! Honestly it had a solid shot at winning at the end there, this ep was super fun to watch!

If Ben's making a format to avoid commander damage, but with blackjack, we'll have to represent that as 21 somehow...ooh, I've got it! Maybe a format where if you deal 21 damage to someone they lose? That might be a bit too easy though...what if we say that if you deal 21 damage with one creature to someone, they lose! But it might feel bad if you get halfway there and that one creature gets removed, so let's add a rule where you can always cast this creature from its own special zone whenever it's not in play? Yeah, this seems like it'll be a great format for Ben.

Turns out flying is dope when all players are Gruul. Also i want to add that Gruul makes up for a great artifact color combination especially with Svella. Red has tons of artifact synergies and green has token doublers which is cool with svella.

The double part only factors in for permanent spells. When you activate an ability with X in its mana cost or cast an instant or sorcery spell (which Green Sun’s Zenith falls under) you copy the spell or ability rather than double the singular X, so he played it correctly.

I still don't get why people talk about Companion being broken. The mechanic was never broken, it was just some of the specific cards that were. It's like saying all treasure cards are broken because Dockside exists.

So, i looked and didn't see anyone mention Brian's mistake at around the 37 min mark. Xenagos does not enter as a creature unless there is already 7 devotion before it enters. it should have entered as an enchantment then became a creature. This wouldn't trigger the Ogre Battledriver ability. so the cultivator colossus would have lived to do more carnage.

@ben commander damage is a great mechanic... last week I took everyone out with commander damage at the table with my Queen. Ayula is commander who mauls people to death, yes it could chip away with commander damage but she normally roars into battle with 18 power. Plus commander damage is another awnser for lifelink decks, cause it doesn't matter how much life you gain when you take 21 commander damage.
