Would like to know what happened re insurance documents. That seems pretty ridiculous. They've got no grounds to suspect you don't have insurance but they want you to ring up your boss at midnight for him to do what? Say yeah we got insurance? One is required to provide details to the police [or others after an accident], and I don't see testing the TCs on RTA sections has much point. OTOH the driver does IIRC have to provide the name of the keeper (in this case his employer), however the TCs will already know whether the vehicle is insured and would have seized it unless it was being driven with trade plates or by another cop.

You do realise the cop doesn't actually have to reel off Road Traffic Act numbers etc to you. He knows what he can do. You must stop and you must show licence. They don't need a reason. Any fixed penalties tickets or Court summons will rhyme off numbers to you. 🙄

If their is dispute over documents then the police officer should give a hort 1. Also known as a producer. All though it is an offence not to have your documents it's an offence you won't be prosecuted for if you produce them at a police station within 7 days. Even if you get summoned to court and give a good reason as to why you didn't produce them then you still won't get prosecuted as long as you can produce them in court.

The officer was right, section 164 gives them the power to ask for your license and in some cases your date of birth, while section 165 gives them the power to ask for your name, address and proof of insurance documents. so in saying under section 165 he asks for your personal details he was completely right...
