Captivating performance of Raga Malkauns by Ankita Joshi, spellbinding the audience at Theater Oranjerie, Roermond, Holland on 11 April 2015. Accompanying her on tabla is Ramkrishna Manohar and on harmonium is Santosh Ghante.
Her expressive voice and mastery of ragas enlivens rapturous harmony and bliss in the minds and hearts of listeners. In the last 13 years, Ankita trained under the direct guidance of one of India’s greatest classical singers, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj. She has received many awards and has performed extensively at top venues throughout India.

What a gem: + 2,000 years old tune. Legend is, a song in this style was sung for an angry Lord (god) Shiva by a goddess to calm him. Please enjoy this beautiful presentation, it will calm you even if you are not angry. This has lasted for 1000s of years, it will live as long as there is one of us is left.

This is the sweetest Malkauns I have heard. Ankita you are the princess of Mewati Gharana. A shinning star ! In 1970s I had the privilege of spending some time with Pandit Jasraj Ji when he had given a performance in Chandigarh and I was a student at Panjab University. I have been following him for decades and I have heard most of our senior Gurus of classical music. I am so glad to see that younger generation is stepping up to the plate to carry on the tradition. Here is my favourite Raag again. I am reminded again and again of Fydor Dostoevsk's. "The Grand Inquisitor of Man". Whenever I hear this Raag, I stand helpless before God. Shamed and guilty, I start introspecting throughout the recitation of Malkauns. Sampoorna Malkauns is more introspection-inducing. However, it is the singer who makes a Raag memorable rather than vice-versa. . 9

I love her (nothing sexual). I am dying, these days nothing sounds good, or feels good; but her voice calms me down. I set this song on a loop, and then keep on filling my glasses till I pass out. Malkauns is one of very soulful Ragas. Deep and emotional. Ankita-ji has very deep and strong voice. Smooth moves from low-high-low pitch. This is the first time I listened to her rendition.Who is her Guru? I am sure, I will be listening her more. She is young.
