Meryl’s talent knows no bounds. I didn’t even realize, when I first saw this, that the rabbi was being played by her. Blew me away. She literally becomes the people she portrays. Such a blessed gift for her and for all of us to watch.

This proves that Meryl Streep can do anything. Perfect.

It brings to mind the scene in Tootsie where Dustin Hoffman talks about playing a tomato. Streep is that type of actor (moreso than Hoffman, in fact). The only other actor who comes even remotely close is Daniel Day-Lewis.

"Eric .... this a Jewish name?" Love the way she delivers that line. Watching the reactions of the people in the pews is as good as it gets. Acting is reacting. Acting without saying a word. Wonderful. As for Ms. Streep .. perfection.

I think the message of this scene is one of the most powerful and necessary and overwhelming ones of our times. And then the play demonstrates exactly what it means to be the descendants of the displaced and to have to travel to strange new places in ourselves.

@filipzawistowski85525 жыл бұрын
It isn't meant to be 100% convincing, you're supposed to know it's Meryl Streep. The miniseries does what the original play does, with the same small core of actors playing many different roles, and in the play the rabbi is played by the same actress who plays Hannah/Ethel Rosenberg/the doctor. So when you watch the miniseries you see all the different actors and you're like "Oh, we're all connected" or whatever message you take from it :)
@markmh8354 жыл бұрын
