I bought a used one of these in red tolex awhile back for $650. I think it's a really solid amp with great tones at just about any volume, and it gets very loud with plenty of headroom. Cool to hear you play through it. That oddball Ibanez seems like a really nice guitar, never heard of the Blazer. I found a beat up Chinese Ibanez GIO gax30 (another guitar I'd never heard of) on CL and bought it for $100.00. It's kind of a bolt-on neck SG style thing. After I replaced the cheap trapezoid tuners, it's become a favorite. I can leave it out without worrying too much about thieves.

Michael Helms the Blazer lost favor once 1987 came with the Jem/550/Vai reboot of the brand, but they were staples of the Ibanez offerings of the 80s and were later modified to become the Roadstar series, similar but with humbuckers and the new Edge tremolo (which remains the same to this day, same as Vai uses). I couldn’t get the Boogie to work for me but that’s probably because someone threw a high efficiency Warehouse speaker in it-too loud!

@@joshoptical Mine has the stock speaker (Mesa/Celestion Black Shadow [C-90?]), not sure if that makes a difference. Seems to sound okay at lower volumes, but it can rattle the house too. The Blazers I've found online after watching your video are selling for $500-you may have started something?

So you are happy with your F50 ? I"m looking to replace a Mesa Boogie 50 cal+ that has been a stone in my shoe since day one, always breaking down. I'm hoping an F50 is the one . thanks !

Man...used to play through one of these at my local guitar shop when I'd pick my guitar up from a setup. Still one of my favorite mesas - always sounded really, really nice to me and was dead simple to dial in.
@joshoptical Жыл бұрын
This one had this high efficiency speaker in it- weird move, makes no sense. So it exacerbated the classic Mesa stiffness. But once dialed in it did the thing!

Good sounds, man. I have one also, and you do need to turn it up a bit to get the best tones. That old Ibanez sure does sound good through it. Thanks.

Dan Parillo no doubt. Someone put a high efficiency speaker in it too so you have to go even LOUDER to get the goods. Not for me!

Sweet. There’s a great value on the used market. The contour not only does the “v” eq , but doesn’t it also give a boost?
@joshoptical5 жыл бұрын
avengethedeadtx significant boost. And I actually think it doesn’t do the Boogie mid scoop V thing, I think it adds high mids for more cut and snarl. Really appreciate you listening!

@ 1:07 you turn up the reverb and gain on the clean channel ? so the clean channels on these F50's have a gain knob too ? that Blazer is beautiful and are great guitars , great quality over USA Fenders if you ask me, Nice video, Peace !
@joshoptical4 жыл бұрын
Moda Mont Thanks so much for watching and for commenting! Yes, the game is essentially a preamp volume, so on the clean channel it makes the sound more dense and saturated. You can theoretically push it to the point of breaking up on the clean channel, but it would have to be so ungodly loud it’s not practical. This amp is long gone - way too heavy, and way too loud!

I found one at a pawnshop this week, put it on layaway otherwise it be gone by now. doing my research to see if I really want to bring it home. I guess it's gonna require an attenuator for home use or the headphone switch.
