I dont understand the "hate" towards his tone, I'm totally in love with it, it's huge, powerful but still clear and very defined. Honestly I think alot of people are just nostalgic about how JP, his tone and what DT used to be, and I agree that those things were great but hey people evolve, tastes evolve, ears and gear evolve and I just think it's natural that he has changed a lot of things otherwise it would just be the same old 80's sound over and over again. I think it's a great amp and an amazing sound and it's totally fine if you disagree

+MESA/Boogie Whats the difference between this amp and the Mark V? ( Both sound baddass btw ).
@mesaboogie8 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul Daluz - Great question! Hard to break it down into just a few sentences, but here goes; The JP-2C has more punch and stiffness to it. Very fast, articulate and immediate to respond to your pick attack etc. The Mark V offers this too, but it's a Simul-Class powewr section instead of Class A/B, and Simul-Class is slightly more forgiving in FEEL (on the strings, etc). The Mark Five is also more versatile with the 9 different modes. There's obviously crossover between the two in that there's the C+ mode in the Mark V, but it's the other modes like Tweed, Crunch, Edge and Mark I in Ch. 2, etc., that offer a larger palette of different sounds. But, some people want the more punch and the feature set of the JP-2C (two EQs, MIDI, Shred, CabClone etc.). Lots if similarities, quite a few differences. Truly ideal to play them both and see which is best ofr you if you can get to a local dealer to compare. Hope this helps and thanks for your interest! :)
@fartsare20238 жыл бұрын
MESA/Boogie Sounds like the Mark V is the better of the two for my needs and tastes. I'm a die hard fan of Petrucci dont get me wrong, but I preffered his heavier tone of the late 90's, primarily on his "Awake" album which was more of a rectifier tone. Ive played the Mark V amp before and it was absolutely stunning. However, I may just go with the Roadster because I like the heavier Metal tones that rectifiers offer. And then may graduate to the Mark V later when I start to become more picky and discerning of my tone as Petrucci has done. But in the time being I'm a metal head dyed in the wool. :-)
@mesaboogie8 жыл бұрын
Great stuff, Paul Daluz - The JP2C can be described as crushingly tight - and still offers lots of versatility with it's control set. But there is definitely a wider array of sounds to be had from a Mark V. If you're looking for something that will provide different sounds for you, the Mark V has a little more to offer there with just a little less beastly punch than the JP2C. That said, the Mark V is not at all soft... just soft-er than a JP2C. Then, there's the ultimate cushion and saturation and harmonics that only a Recto offers. So many amps, so little time. :D Good luck in your search and let us know if we can help!

"it doesnt just turn into mush. its definitely a boogie thing" speaking from my own experience, its a Boogie Mark series thing....i own both the Mark V and JP2C+ and they both perform the same in that respect. the clarity of the individual notes even at high gain/high volume settings is something that my old dual rec and triple rec couldn't do. I have owned quite a few amps in my 35+ years of playing and these Mark amps are in my opinion the best.

I have always loved the quality, passion, and sophistication ( sometimes, TOO much complexity... ) that goes into every Boogie amp. So what I'm about to say isn't as a "Boogie Troll" or to start a fight here. Having said that, I have with little success found the gain/crunch quality that I love. It's very difficult it seems just to dial in a smooth and creamy, say, modded-Marshall gain structure, or better yet a stock Friedman amp. I guess all I'm asking is, is that just the "Mesa House Sound", or am I maybe applying too much eq ?
@mesaboogie8 жыл бұрын
Hi +1970borntorun - Thanks for your thoughtful comment and here's a couple of thoughts regarding your excellent question. If you are seeking British or Marshall sounds from a Mesa, there are amps other than the JP-2C which provide great examples of those sounds AND the classic Mark series sounds as well. The JP-2C is very specifically a Boogie Mark series sound - the IIC+ to be exact - and while many Mesa amps are capable of not just Mesa sounds but also Marshall and Fender style sounds and beyond, this amp is very specific. If you are looking for an amp with similar features (three channels, Graphic EQ, etc...) but something that will offer Brit sounds as well, I woukld recommend the Mark V rather than the JP-2C as it's second channel modes of Edge & Crunch offer EXCELLENT Brit sounds in addition to the classic Mark sounds offered in Channel 3, the LoneStar and Mark series clean sounds in Channel 1, AND, the Tweed mode in Ch. 1 which, turned to 10 and set to 10 watts sounds vintage amazing as well. Hope this helps and thanks for your interest. Let us know if you have any further questions - happy to help!

I have owned 2 Mark V's over time, it took me almost 3 months to dial in my tone, but once i was there it was tonal bliss. its totally worth the patience. If you're not able to dial it in, you don't have the sonic ears to balance the sliders and the EQ's. it takes skills and lots of patience. this amp is NOT plug and play but it pays off huge dividends. MESA FOR LIFE.

John is always such a great player. I would disagree that only the 2C+ boogies get this tone tho. I am sure its John pushing the new amp sales but, the Mark III can do this as well. Nothing against John at all but, you can pick up a early Mark III and get that tone as well.
@crimsun71868 жыл бұрын
The Mark V can do that tone for less money than this piece of signature amp.
@michaelwatkins79818 жыл бұрын
I will say that even though its a sales thing.... I do not think Mesa put a bad amp at all, I have seen quite a few players playing the JP's and they sound great. I was only making a remark that I felt more than one Mesa/Boogie can get this cool tone. I play a wide field of styles and the Mark III I have has always been able to give me what I wanted to hear. Someday when I finish up the studio, I would like to get a Mark V since they say that so many of their amps are in there.I have the 2X12 mesa can with it if I need to move a bit more air.
@crimsun71868 жыл бұрын
Michael Watkins The problem is that Mesa is not even good at demonstrating what their own amps can do. A music store had to make a series of videos on the Mark V showing what the amp could do. What Mesa did was put two videos with JP showing the tones he uses when the amp can do so much more than just that.
@michaelwatkins79818 жыл бұрын
Yea, that's got some merit as well. It's hard because we are such a picky bunch of players, I admit it. They just seem to be able to cover a lot of different ground tone wise, but its each of us tweaking knobs everywhere to find those tones. I am not into this kind of sound for me but its a great tone. I am happy one series of amps can make a player smile over the tone they are getting, At least it is for me. it is a search tho...
@danhall7168 жыл бұрын
+Anthony S. To be fair, he may have truly believed that at the time. I remember back in 2004 when I played a show with a friend's Marshall TSL 60, this being the first high-powered amp I tried in an appropriate setting, I thought I was in tone heaven...then I tried a Mark IV, and suddenly, the Marshall, the same one that I thought was the bee's knees just days earlier, sounded weak, tinny, and lacklustre in terms of real sustain. What I'm trying to say is that when he was using the Mark V full-time, he may have truly thought this was "it", and now, his mind has been changed.

Daniel Bartlett if you listen to his guitar a few seconds later playing the riff, he has his signature "dreamscape" pedal activated which he uses as a chorus pedal to widen his sound. Being a lone guitarist in a band can be a challenge when it comes to sounding big and full, so he uses a chorus pedal to double his guitar to try to emulate his double tracking in the studio

Hey Mesa boogie, How would i go about using the cab clone to go to the board and use my cab as a reference monitor on stage at the same time in a live environment?

Didn't simul class give it more gain? Warmer tone?
@mesaboogie8 жыл бұрын
Not more gain but some would say it provides a smoother (and warmer tone. Most would say the feel is more juicy and forgiving - more sweetly compressed overall.
