Wow! It's amazing that the Mini Rectifier has been out as long as it has and only now with this demo is there a proper play-through review of this amp. Fantastic demo with excellent play-throughs of all the features of the amp AND sufficient explanation of what each segment is covering. Bravo on finally getting a good demo of this amp out after all these years!

Nice to finally see a proper review/demo of this amp. I played on one of these in a shop recently and was blown away by how amazing it sounded. It has some serious serious balls but has stunning clean and pushed sound too. Also agree with the other comment on the volume boost when you switch to the modern mode - caught me out and now my ears are still ringing

Very nice to see this refresh review and demonstration. Had this amp since 2013. didn't play it much lately because it has one BIG problem... The problem is its BIG loud volume LOL. A bit too loud to get its optimum tone in the not-so-large space. Great amp anyway.

I think playing thru a 2x12 cabinet is crucial to tone quality. I'm sick of my single Celestion on my combo amps. I'm very tempted to get a small head some day.
@florian6240
@florian6240 Жыл бұрын
It's all a matter of the style you are playing : 1x12 and combos do have a very specific sound, very focused and boxy. That boxyness can be a problem if you are into metal for example, but on other styles, a lot of people love that boxyness, myself included. I plug my mini rec on a 4x12 with eminence swamp thang and it sounds humongous, it kills every other 4x12 I tried, but sometimes I like to use my V30 1x12, just to change a bit. Also if I have a blues, jazz gig I will use my 1x12 because it suits more the tone I would be after, but on a more rock/metal gig, I'd definitely use my 4x12. In other words , one is not "better sounding" that the other, it's all a matter of style first, and taste second

What an amazing tone you got out of this lunchbox. Especially the lead tone how did you got such nice smooth lead.I own one as well and i just love it. But i just cant get a smooth lead tone because of that high end sizzle/crackle these rectifiers got. Does anyone has some tips or tricks? Keep shredding mate!
@florian6240
@florian6240 Жыл бұрын
Presence is your friend in this case, turning it down will thicken, warm and smooth out your tone : what channel are you using for your leads ? Have you tried the pushed mode for leads ? This mode is absolutely killer and unbelievably versatile, try this : pushed mode with gain maxed, treble between noon and 2pm, mids maxed (this is crucial because it adds gain and smoothness), and bass at zero (also crucial, because in the green channel, the more gain you add, the less bass you want). Then again I suggest the presence between 6 and 9 o' clock, unless you have a massively dark speaker. The mini rec is to me the most versatile amp I have played and gigged in a long time, the only one that came close was the studio 22 + that I still regret selling. I know a lot of people would tell me about the mark series, which are also fantastic sounding amps, but they are the polar opposite of rectos : marks are super focused sounding, mids heavy and tight, while rectos are super open sounding, rather mid scooped and somewhat sagging in the low end. But the mini rec with its EL84 is way tighter (than its big brother's 6L6 counterpart), while still sounding open, huge and tri dimensional. Also if you are a boogie owner, read its manual, it is filled with crucial infos of how your amp operates and functions. If you don't have the manual, you can download it from boogie website, so you don't have any excuses now ;)

I have this amp since 4 years. It sounds amazing but there are 2 main issues with this amp and I am thinking to replace it with a Victory amp. First, there is so much hiss when the amp turned into red channel, whether fx loop is engaged or not, the hiss will not go away. Second, the volume level almost doubles when I just switch between the vintage and modern modes in the red channel and I cant do that in live situation. It sounds amazing but I wish these 2 issues can be resolved.

For the hiss put a Gate(Smart Gate by MXR for example) in loop.
@robvoyles
@robvoyles 4 жыл бұрын
Rocktron hush kills the hiss instantly, dead quiet..... and the vintage and modern modes are not foot switchable so that is something not intended for live playing. set your switches then foot switch between channels. works perfect.

I'm buying one of these in a few months time, I'm in love with that tone for a very long time. I have a question, we all know that Gibson souds great with Marshall, Stratocaster with Fender amps. Guys, which guitar will make that amp sound the best??? I will use this amp mostly for metal. I'm thinking about ESP ltd SNAKEBYTE with EMG JH James Hetfield Signature Humbucker Set, or I should go with some Gibson??? Or maybe some Duncans???

Mini mec is 25 Watts powered by a pair of EL84 : dual rec is a 100 Watts, triple is 150 Watts, both are powered by 6L6 tubes. Preamp is the same, with slight tweaks for the mini rec to accommodate for EL84 tubes. Hope that clears everything.

I have a question. Sorry in advance, I'm a huge scrub when it comes to things like looping and using multiple fx at once. So, I boost this thing's modern channel with a boss super overdrive, and to me it sounds great. I also have the single button channel footswitch that came with the amp. Is there any possible way I can get my SD-1 to turn on/off at the same time I switch from clean to dirty channels? I hate having to hit the channel switch THEN the SD-1, or have the SD-1 just on all the time making my dirty tone sound great, but messing up my clean tone entirely. Is there any way to fix this? Would the solution be a pedal looper? If so, how would I set that up to have the Mesa Footswitch get paired in a loop with my SD-1?? Like I said I suck at this. Please help if you can!

@worsthandleever 4 жыл бұрын
You may have already solved this, as I see your question was posted a while ago. In short, yes - use a looper switcher with a channel trigger that can be programmed with each patch. So patch 1 could be clean channel with the SD-1 off, and patch 2 could be dirty channel with the SD-1 on. The Boss ES-8 is great for this, and can re-order your pedals within a patch too.

@@chrisdrumz7 I've played that tune A LOT several years ago. And I still enjoy it (and the entire album, in fact) when I'm in the mood for it. So I do apologize by calling the entire genre "shit"; because there are good bands that play that style. However, it just starts to sound like the same thing when you listen to it too much. And it's annoying when so many people seem only to appreciate the most down-tuned, most distorted, most compressed guitar tones.
