Mitch Gallagher presents the Triple Crown TC-50 tube guitar amp head from Mesa/Boogie. Its 3-channel design offers two modes on each channel for American-sounding clean tones on the first channel, aggressive crunch on the second channel, and thick high-gain from channel 3. The Triple Crown TC-50 head is also loaded with features such as MIDI-capable switching, a true spring reverb that's footswitchable, and even Mesa's impressive CabClone direct output.

I've been modifying my .50 Caliber+ for more than ten years to get it sound awesome. It seems the TC-50 does not need any modification to shine!

Reminds me how silly the price difference on Mesas is between the US and europe. We pay about 2700 euro for one of these, so about 2800 dollar.

Im sure alot of people were wanting to hear the hi gain channel with the tight switch engaged w/ treble and presence at noon. Its as tight and bold as any of their Mark series amps.not sure why sweetwater chose to skip over the best tone in the head.

My next amp- exactly what Ive been looking for. One bummer tho' - I see disaster if that bias switch gets knocked around. They should have put a lock-out on it.
@sweetwater

There's a protective ring around the bias switch. There should be no problem with accidentally knocking it out of position. Thanks! Mitch

I was looking at comparing a Mark V and a TC50 and was wondering the same thing. I wonder if playing at a low level will still provide the same tone that you get at louder volume? Do the Mark V and a TC50 have head phone jacks for late night playing at home?

Paul Scheufler TC50 does have a headphone jack. Mark V does not. Mark V35 does tho.

I am really interested in this amp, I am thinking I would use it as a master then utilize the preamp and use the line out to drive stereo fx into a stereo power amp section and use wet/dry/wet setup.

It hurts my head to think about that. I would just plug in and jam.

It isn't really that hard to do. It is just another way to master/slave a head. It sounded nice and wide. I have used the wet/dry/wet a few times it is quite an experience.

@paulscheufler302
@paulscheufler302 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Where can I learn more about doing that? What do you mean by wet/dry/wet?
@JRP3music
@JRP3music 7 жыл бұрын
Wet/dry/wet is running stereo with a dry only amp so, it requires 3 amps. I can easily do it with the patch bay I have for pedal board. I run in stereo, currently. I couldn't find a multi-channel amp I could afford or was diverse enough. I use Bogner Red Ecstacy as my main high gain overdrive, I also use a Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret which sounds Plexi/JTM 45 lower gain sounds, I use a Wampler SLOstortion which has a master boost and sounds too me closer to a Soldano. I attenuate with a micro volume control box and use a para metric eq to shape my overall preamp section of my pedal board. Then I send one feed to stereo fx: TC Electronic Nova Modulation, Eventide Pitch Factor, TC electronics Nova Delay and last a stereo reverb. I have those connected to a patch bay it goes to a pair of clean amps. The signal is split to a dry only output to go to an amp. I get roaring amp tones from this setup. I use the fx sparing. I mainly like delays for solos or to give extra thickness to my tone. I forgot to mention that I use a Xotic SP compressor and BOSS NS-2 noise surpressor for all my gain pedals. It keeps my sound from having noise and sounds great.

Man, like all boogies ive had the pleasure of playing, bass down mids 12 oclock and treble above 12. This was a very muddy example. This amp deserves a better knowledge of their inherent eq needs

This amp appears to sound great,but for the money I'd go with the Rivera Chubster Fifty. It has one of the best clean amp channels around. Mesa make some good amps but they aren't necessarily aimed at the working musician. Once you get pass the $1200 mark.you are getting pass some of us working musicians budget.

Mitch talked about the Mesa lineage and how Mesa says this is the highest gain amp they've produced, yet he spends the bulk of the time playing clean and low gain. The short amount of time he did spend on the high gain channel, he played no hard rock or metal, which is the whole point. I agree with another commenter who said Sweetwater needs to find a younger person for these videos who is more in tune with the needs and tastes of the modern guitar player.

You know, I'm thinking of buying this amp and it sounds like it has the tone I want, but it makes me want to punch a mofo in the throat when you have an amp designed to get great heavy and hard rock tone demo'd by blues and jazz players. Is it too much to ask to get a heavy player with skills to show what the amp is really capable of doing?

There are better amps in this price range. Too many negative things about this amp has made me sell mine and guess what? Used market like this my amp is like brand new but still won’t even sell and I’m asking like 600$ less than they are new.
