Hey guys, check out this comparo between a Ref F Triple Recto & a Multi-Watt Triple Recto. What tonal differences do you hear?

BTW, I modded one of my Stiletto Deuse Stage II head with adjustable bias and I ordered a matched quad of EH 6CA7s to test out vs the Mesa STR-447 EL34s (all BLU) running at about 75-78% idle plate dissipation. We'll see how those 6CA7s sound soon. This was your idea a while back. Thanks!

Cool. The MW really is killer. I will say that the Dual MW sits better in the band mix, the upper mids are a little more present than in the triple MW. Note in the old 2 channels I like the Triple a lot more because they're so much tighter.

Rev F for me, just a touch more chunky. Multi-watt is great too though, interesting how similar they are. I just got a Dual Rev F, totally agree they don't need a boost unlike Rev G 2 channel or non multi-watt 3 channel. Also weirdly I'm preferring EL34s in it.

I knew the MW was special, I’ve not liked any of my Rectos (without a boost) over the last 20 years until I found the MWs. Still have yet to play a Rev C. My friend in NC owns #217 Rev C that was rented and used on AIC Dirt album. It’s much more closer to 80’s Hair Metal Soldano tone from the vids he’s sent me. Super quick attack and fluid.

Killer amps i own noth of them and a lot more mesa the mark five 90 is my favorite one out of all mesa but that's due to having a EQ and the other ones i have to carry a EQ for them and i don't with the marl five . sound good to me man nice riffs too .but i do have a love for all mesa they all have there own thing there good at . best amps out there in my opinion noting cam beat a mesa sound and I've tried them all .

The multi-watt sounds a bit thicker. I am liking the MW over the Rev F and I have both the exact same same amps too!!! lol

Came back to listen again with my Bowers & Wilkins studio monitors. Still very close with the MW just ever so slightly chunkier or thicker sounding. It’s not much but it’s there. I’d be interested if that disappears with the exact settings of presence and treble.

You are correct. The slight extra thickness does not go away with the same treble & presence, but it does get a lot brighter. ...And, the F has slightly better clarity & gain structure.

Bought me a used Dual Recto Multi Watt two weeks ago. Between her and the Triple Rec MW, is there much of a difference tonally?

I’d be happy with either of these, but I guess I’d take the multi-watt for versatility’s sake. They can both be used for a fat Led Zeppelin-style crunch on orange vintage mode and a chunky Metallica rhythm tone on red modern. The clean channel on the multi-watt is so underrated though; it’s fat and chiming with loads of headroom and tons of character.

The MW is heaps more versatile and the cleans are light years better. The F is just THAT much better at the heavy Modern thing.

Thanks. In the room the F is a little more raw & organic & clear but the MW is a little more thick. But, it's a much smaller difference than say with vintage vs. modern Marks. Honestly the Multi-Watts are killer amps.

Why don't mesa just release an onboard OD switch/boost (not solo) like a lot of other amps if they're always considered to be muddy/untight?

Rev f !!!!!! The upper middle on the 3 channel give me a headache . I’ve noticed it in all new Mesa boogie amps. Not sure what’s going on but it’s killing them.

You find you like running the Ch master low and the global output high vs having the master up quite abit and having the global lower eh? I find I run my Ch Master at at least noon.

You know, with most amps there's a noticeable difference here. With my Rectos I don't really care which way it balances. For recording I'd always bypass the loop unless I really needed a pedal in there anyway.

I guess I always assumed the Channel masters were obviously like a regular master(affects how hard you wanna drive your power amp) and then I thought of the global as like the fine tuner or sort of a second master volume that is post power amp. But maybe they bothe essentially affect/drive the power amp in the exact same way!?

This is true, I always had a hard time recording Rectos compared to the tone in the room.
