A very nice miniature with crisp looking detail. It can be a frustrating exercise at times when details are vague and you can’t quite be sure as to what it is you are painting. Sometimes I end up seeing it retrospectively by painting other minis in the series and only then realising there was a pouch or something instead of just a lumpy fold in the cloak etc.

Yeah that’s a real pain when that happens, a lot of the early Lord of the Rings miniatures have strange ‘voids’ where there’s no detail or a ‘stretched’ area like a arrow quiver that blends into a cloak. Think it was an effect of one piece plastic miniatures.

Fantastic mini and these seem more old Old World scale. I think it's past time I branch out of Citadel paints for everything.. I have not been too thrilled with the whites so will try the White Star recommendation.
@MiniatureRealms10 күн бұрын
They’re probably still a little small for Old World, they’re slightly larger than the original plastics, but about the same size as modern MESBG resins. Two Thin Coats whites are very nice and easy to use if you’re used to Citadel.

Really enjoyed these two War of the Rohirrim painting videos. I know I could do so much more on the painting front; I did get an airbrush - still in its box; I did get Two Thin Coats Kickstarter Wave 1 - they’re still in their box. I did at least use Contrasts a couple of years ago on SWL Rebels and want to do more with those (so the videos helped there). But I have limited time so stick with GW paints (but I am at least regularly a wet palette). Need to retire!

😂 I’m a way off that myself. Really love Two Thin Coats, I’ve picked up quite a few from Wave 1&2 now, but want to get them all now, don’t think I’ve found a bad one yet. They convert pretty well to GW, so you might find they just work well together with your Citadel range.

Lovely job as always Stuart. WRT achieving a zenithal-like result with no airbrush the thought occurs that if you drybrush - as you suggested - always brushing from the top down the bottom should always have less as the paint wears off. Probably an obvious point but sometimes things are /so/ obvious they are overlooked.

Generally I’d suggest having a little paint as possible on the brush, and while there will be some up and down motion, circular strokes will give a smoother finish. The aim should be to build up intensity through layers of dry-brushing.

Great video mate, thank you. Going to collect my box from the fabled land next Sat and will be using your guide as a baseline for some Rohan warriors.

I was very tempted, but decided to make two forces so my son can play with the starter set with me.

@MiniatureRealms makes sense I already own a massive rohan force, so I'll keep using them until they hopefully release new riders then I will build a new rohan force

Amazing video. Thank you so much for this guide. I didn't quite understand what the powdery substance was on the base before you applied the wash on it, something similar to stirland mud?
@MiniatureRealms10 күн бұрын
Thank you. Yes it’s Vallejo Earth Texture, Dark Mud (they have different colours). It’s very much a texture paint like Stirland Mud, but about 10 times the amount for about £12-15. They make mud textures as well that are similar, but the ‘Earth Texture’ range is better for the main base texture.

Excellent tutorial for both factions warriors! Can you please do one for each of the hero models!?🙏🏻
@MiniatureRealms10 күн бұрын
Thank you. I have plans to tackle at least one of the heroes, but they can take a while to film so I need to find a gap in my schedule.

Hey sorry I commented this on your FB post as well, can you do a guide for the same models as Rohan Traitors.
@MiniatureRealms10 күн бұрын
Oh please don’t apologise. I’ll certainly give it some thought, but want to see the film first for inspiration. If they’re pretty much the same apart from a red cloak etc I may not do it, sadly for the time it takes to film and edit I doubt it would get many views being so similar to this. But I need to look into it more, so it’s no a ‘no’.

Dan and I do the Hobby Hour now (which lives on this channel). It’s very similar, just in video form and we talk about other games as well. Will be plenty of episodes dedicated to MESBG like our last one though.
