A fantastic kit bash to recreate the original WFB 3rd ed Bombard for the army. I actually have the wheelless Bombard from that era, as it's part of the Wargames Foundry Ex Citadel range, as are almost ALL of the original WFB 3rd-4th ed Bretonnians!

I have done so many wood buildings using your technique. Ever since I saw your mordheim board build. It is by far one of the best looking wood techniques I have ever seen. I have such a fun time blending all different types of browns, I even use Dark Angels Green sometimes and it brings a deep mossy feel to the wood. Great tutorials, cheers from Canada!

Having only recently returned to modelling I was actually unaware of these lovely models until I watched your video on the boxset...I can picture a diorama where the Rohan warriors defend one from Wildlings intent on torching the farm etc... Thanks for the inspiration

@ My absolute pleasure 😀. To be fair you and Stu usually go well over the hour mark so I’ll just have to let it pass this time 😂. But in all fairness I would likely stay on and listen to any music chat, particularly music to paint by…I often listen to all kinds of things seeing as painting takes up many hours a month (though sometimes in many small intervals when I’m time poor)

The Armies of Middle Earth when it arrives is going to add more lists/depth but it’s quite nice to have just the two film trilogies plus new WotR to work with in getting a feel for the new rules. Going to be interesting to see how Monsters in particular work out. I still need to work out what I want to dive into. Good hobby chat both.

Great video! I understand people having their lists messed around with but I’m onboard with the new edition. Love the lists, and it gives room to expand, I’m sure they’ll be more lists in the future too such as the serpent horde

Some good picks there chaps. One that stuck out to me was the road to helms deep. Some really cool rules there regarding mounting and dismounting. Very themey. As a side note, perhaps a live episode for the movie? Would be cool.

Talking to many gamers from my old club and others, they don’t like the inflexibility of the minis. They are stuck with Black Powder rules rather than their preferred rules (Age of Eagles and Fire and Fury. Most of the players preferred the 1808 battles through to 1814 and wanted to see where the uniforms British , French and Prussian for the 1815 campaign did fill a gap but not in strips of 10 that couldn’t be cut down. Then there was a 50% price increase and the removal of buildings from the larger sets (given free?) was actually a. Further price increase. When they were offered half price with mini warfare magazine but I already subscribed by the time I’d sorted it out and wanted to take the plunge the offer had gone then others were given with a free la hey saint then they weren’t . Then sale prices went up as stocks decreased. So I just couldn’t be bothered to to work out what I needed in odd frames as the frames were different and new cost of extra command groups available. Some generals were produced for the Brits but if I wanted to paint the Brits at Waterloo I want every one as I wanted every brigade(yes great but division generals only the odd ones and I would have to buy the corp commands ) but the price had gone up again and it looks as though it’s the end of the line and someone who has played games from the first coalition and the revolutionary wars were being played more often I just couldn’t fork out the £700-00 plus the build the armies at Waterloo because I would have to play Solo so that means that I would have to buy all the lot. I have this fear that I will suddenly find that there a group missing that I can’t complete the Prussian reserve regiments, about a third of the army aren’t being produced. If these were lead figures a quick casting run could be made to order but a Waterloo product run would be expensive and would it sell? Perhaps yes but from a business point of view no! I doubt it. And I’ll bet those figures that I want will no longer be available. So who is actually Wargaming with with these armies that only fought for 3 or 4 days at most. A lot bought, yes! Some painted, yes! Any fighting a battle? With only BP Rules? I suspect not many at all and that’s because of the strips of 10. Wellingtons third division was a real mixed bag so where does this leave the range with only players who bought the special rules with the more expensive sets ?

I’ll be cutting down my Peninsular guys and using them in with Soldiers of Napoleon, but there’s plenty who enjoy the game as it is, there’s a decent sized group playing that way local to me. Like with any historical wargame it’s just more toys to use as best you see fit, sometimes influenced by local players and groups, other times by more personal factors. There are a whole host of manufacturers out there and in many different scales, enough that most gamers can find something that suits. Warlord went for something that was visually impressive, and the 10 man strip suffers more in Napoleonics than it does in other periods they’ve covered, but I guess that ‘epic’ as a product supersedes ‘period difference’, and from a commercial point of view I can understand that. If I could pick a perfect product for my Napoleonic armies, it would be the exact same style and quality of sculpts that warlord have done, still in plastic, but 10mm. Then maybe even 5 man strips. But that doesn’t exist, and currently on reflection I’d rather use what they have than any other 10mm on the market. To the point on price. For me it’s clear they’re by far the cheapest ‘per head’ out there, but if the nature of the 10 man strips means a player might need more than they would from other manufacturers, then the choice is there for them to personally make.

Before I give my opinion, I hope you dont take any hate personally in the comments to seriously as some people are upset. For me, I am okay with the new building. Allies mostly* allowed certain models to be overrepresented and abused rather than overall lists (though witchking suladan was very popular). The new system may* make armies be overrepredented and abused. However the new system may make rule rewrites of lists in future supplements more common and result in better balance and thus more diversity overall. To me, it is yet to be seen what the final outcome will be of the new edition and competitive or casual you should wait a bit for the first supplements before giving a definitive opinion.

Yeah, the new edition isn't for me, unfortunately. Army lists being "snippets in time" don't hold much interest for me. I've seen the movies several dozen times and have read and re-read the books many times since the 80s. I really have no interest in seeing the same armies on the board over and over. And I am in no way a competitive player. The tone of this video insinuates people who want to have freedom in making armies are just competitive players is very off putting.

Definitely not our intention to insinuate that, and I definitely don’t think that’s the case either. However our commentary on much of the negative noise comes from a number of people who we know are part of the competitive scene, so it’s not unfounded, but definitely not a declaration that it’s just competitive players. We both laboured the point on more than one occasion that we have genuine sympathy with those who don’t like this army building approach, and that we are lucky that we are fans on the Legendary Legion approach. We have been since they were first introduced , so it’s just a very genuine position. I think casual players who like movie themes are definitely better served than those who want to create their own armies based on book narratives. It’s tough for those players from a list building a model range point of view. We discussed this as well, while also noting the third book is on its way which will no doubt bring much of these things back (it will be OOP miniatures that become an issue for some then). Personally I think you may have miss-interpreted the tone based on your own dissatisfaction with the approach of the new edition, but appreciate the point and I’ll give it some thought, but I really felt we were pretty sympathetic with the issues while being honest with what we liked.

A whole wealth of scenarios remains open to you, not to mention the upcoming Armies Of Middle-earth book and the opportunity to just play whatever you like with your friends. As Stu says, it was not our intention nor our insinuation. Merely the loudest voice in the room regarding this issue was from predominantly the competitive players. I'm sorry the edition isn't for you, hopefully you'll find something more suitable or continue playing the previous edition with like minded people. Happy hobbying.

The imperial Dwarf unit has a profile in the Dwarf arcane journal, technically these are now the ‘official’ miniatures for them, but as you’ve spotted, they don’t make for a cheap unit to purchase.

Ahh! I missed them somehow. My guys don’t do tourneys. Leaning towards building my collection with 10ish man regiments and running game night more like a game of Black Powder. Set up a scenario, lay down the models, let the fun begin. I think some of the issues I hear about the rules might disappear that way. Anyway, I can reluctantly pop for two of these and the command group.

Now a year later, these would be great used in Wargames Illustrated's Here's The Ruckus! Especially with all the support articles in the magazine since it's debut during summer 24. Especially good as each warband only requires 12 miniatures.
