The sheer dedication to do this for this long, and the improvement is staggering.

Cheers mate! There are several reasons to do this, and one of them is to prove that it is possible as long as you never stop. It’ll come to you with time. It’s only a matter of how bad you really want to do it. :) I tried it on an acoustic kit today for the first time. It felt great, I have to get one of those!

You are a beast man. There are very few people who have the dedication to do this

I really like Meshuggah and I really like this song. That helps a lot. When I say I want to play this song, I sincerely mean it and will do what it takes. And I also have a growing urge to try out my skills on other songs too, to see how much that’ll translate. When it’s done I will throw a party kind of like a graduation celebration or similar event. You know, I have an excel sheet where I keep track of how much time I have spent learning. It will be very fun to be able to say exactly how many hours it took to learn it!

@ That is amazing man. Fun fact: it took Haake 6 months to learn bleed when they were recording obzen lol.

@@marcello9476 I've heard that haha 😅 But how many hours do you reckon he practised per day? Then we have the wise saying that "An amatuer will practice until he can play it. A professional will practice until he never makes a mistake". There is a world of difference between the two, and I wouldn't be surprised if the pro level takes 10X more time than to just play the song (on a good day). A pro must be able to play it in any condition, no matter how thrashed and tired you are. The lowest level must still be 120% of what the song requires.

I wouldn't disrespect you at this stage as a "beginner", way to go.
11 ай бұрын
That's correct, it is not fair to call yourself a beginner after >1400 days. But I want to point out where I came from and where I started. Many people probably assume incorrectly that you have to be very skilled to take on a song like this. Not true. It's only a matter of how much you really want it. =)
@JerryCrow11 ай бұрын
"naturlig talang" är myten, konst är vad vi pratar av här... Looking at english, "art" coming from latin; Means again skill. Applying skill is what leads to tangible art. You're not skilled at day 0, at day 1500 you will be... So yea what you said but "talent" inplace of skill; As again, konstande, comes from the want, and the repetition. Still, if you're only bashing bleed on an edrumset; you might not be having "the most optimal" progression path. Like, a bit of jazz on an acoustic drumset could widen your awareness on how to proceed.. Limb independence would make the snare playing more consistant. Not trying to critique, just to point out as you have the want; The song is quite easilly written on notes if you separate the bassdrums from the rest. So one could especially on an edrumset play the feet part with hands, and the hand part with the feet. Also the herta makes a bit more sense when sticked as rlr r rlr r; this is how i first assumed the song was played :D anyway, har en bra @

I look forward to the day when I can learn another song. I do think I might chose something that will not take 5+ years again. However, part of me wants to learn something by Lorna Shore or Soreption next 🤣🤣

Once you nail it, keep at it. I've learned this track and didn't play it for a year, yeah it's fucking gone my feet just went nope.

That's what I suspected! Thanks for the advice. Some months ago I felt a stagnation when practising only 15 min/day. I guess that's like the minimum level you need to keep what you've got but not enough to grow more. It's just like going to the gym. If you cant sustain 15 min per day, there is 0% chance that you can sustain 30 min. I prefer to start small and build the habit, and increase with time. Consistency is the secret

The logic that led to you miking up electric drums rather than recording what you're hearing in your headphones seriously escapes me...
11 ай бұрын
The reason is time. Clipmount your smartphone to a prepared stand and press the red button... Done! The only purpose is to document the progress over time, for an eventual training montage. I use a "drum karaoke" video that I prepared on KZbin with clicktracks minus drums which i play along with, with a tablet on a stand next to me. I can get the whole setup running in seconds. I sincerely apologize for the worthless audio quality, but rest assured that I will prepare something decent when I finally start to approach the target of a proper one-take. I have a streaming laptop on a stand with RME interface, and Cubase multi-input/output so I can record a proper multichannel take and get studio quality sound. While routing the click track to the headphones and nowhere else. I wish there was an easier solution. My studio quality setup is kind of fast, but it still requires minutes to activate instead of seconds like with the crappy smartphone. And thus it becomes a no-brainer unfortunately. When the time comes, I will probably start up the proper system and let it run for a week or two, while recording a one take every day until it finally snaps into place. I might also record the midi output and replace the module sounds with superior drummer - albeit with a risk of being called a cheater. We'll see =) Thanks for the feedback mate
@RaidenSaya11 ай бұрын
Nah I appreciate that we essentially get the raw audio. Much easier to hear your progress!
11 ай бұрын
@@RaidenSaya that’s an interesting observation. Maybe you need both. I suspect a “hifi” recording will be more revealing in some aspects. But raw sound is usually more unforgiving in general. If it sounds good on a crappy recording then it is probably not half bad.
@gavinhope285411 ай бұрын
Actually not bad for beginner I see a lot of shit drum content on here and this is better than 100% better than the people who actually play drums and remeber to hit the snare
11 ай бұрын
Appreciate the feedback mate. I agree, I still need to remember to hit the snare accents harder, as if my life depends on it. I got that tip from some drummer a while ago and it really helped, even though I am obviously not there yet. It becomes the backbone of the whole groove. It makes everything easier actually. It would probably be more natural on a regular drum kit, when you feel the push of air from the snare.

ive found that helps alot is just simply not thinking about it just feel the song and youll find your way through @

Can’t stop now mate, I’m not done yet. I must first nail it in a one-take. Then I am done :) then I will prepare a training montage, which should be quite fun to see the progress over all these years. And even more fun will be to see how much of the knowledge and skills gained by this single song that can translate to other songs.

@@_mnejing Bullseye mate, this one's all about the process and not the final take. =) I hope I can inspire someone with this, that would be great. One of the top comments of the original video by Meshuggah is "This song inspired me to give up the drums". I intend to prove the opposite.
