@@jommywop Everyone who has a problem with Extreme Metal all comes down to the vocals. I totally get it, but my only question is; what kind of clean vocals would make this music more agreeable to people who don't appreciate distorted vocals? It's the biggest challenge I've encountered when introducing this style of Music. Clean vocals don't always fit with some of these sounds, so it's like, how do I make this more acceptable? The answer isn't clear.
@jommywop
@jommywop 4 жыл бұрын
@@atthecore4560 I don't think clean vocals would work for most of the music. It just took me awhile to warm up to the growls. I wouldn't change anything. Not everyone is going to be into it. That's ok. I'm not into jazz. I don't wish jazz would change just so I can enjoy it. It wouldn't be jazz anymore. As for what kind of clean vocals might work if you had to try... maybe Maynard from Tool?

Shoulda gone for Tomas Hakke's drum playthroughs, you'll really appreciate his raw unbridled skill when you see those. Also, you're both right and wrong about the lyrics. Sure, sometimes the lyrics themselves aren't the actual focus (like meshuggah) but with a lot of bands, if you actually bother to decipher them, they're very well written. There is also plenty of metal where the lyrics take the forefront and the music, no matter the technicality and musicality (like tool) provides a backdrop.

One thing you gotta understand about the rhythms with Meshuggah is that they are STAGGERINGLY advanced. You'll notice that each song has a sort of odd "feel" to it, almost random, but it still makes sense. And depending on where you put your attention you get something different. That's from the fact that there's anywhere from 2 to like 5 different rhythmic paces intertwined and overlapped in each song, and it gives this feeling of you just BARELY being able to call it "orderly". It's some next level shit in that regard. Watching videos of the drummer playing really highlights just how bizarre it all is. You can visually watch him do things that seem like they don't make sense rhythmically, but sure enough it all checks out in that your reaction to it isn't the same as watching two people clap out of sync with a song.

The music video for Bleed had several visual elements which may need some explaining. Firstly, the song is about having an aneurysm. The video is an imagination of the transformation from life to death. The lady with the red twine that you were curious about is one of the three 'Fates' from mythology.. don't remember her name.. but she is the one that measures the thread of ones life.. and when she reaches the point where she cuts the thread.. you die. I am paraphrasing there as it has been sooo many years since I was in school learning this kinda stuff. I also take no credit in deciphering this information from the video, as it is information I have garnered from other reaction comment section for this song. Just relaying the information for ya to better understand what is going on in the video. Peace

The lyrics are actually pretty under-rated when it comes to Meshuggah. While often quite surface level in terms of what is being depicted, the verbiage is so out there and once you get into it, it really contributes to the overall feeling of the tracks. Oppressive and morbidly fascinating. You should try some of their more groove oriented tracks like Beneath or Straws Pulled at Random. Across their discography there are quite a plethora of different styles they have gone through.

funny you mentioned the "Saw" movies. One of their songs, "Shed" I believe, was in one of the movies in the ending credits I think.

You want something even heavier? Check out the demon's name is surveillance from the same band, arguably one of the most insane songs ever produced by any human beings

The most interesting thing about death metal is the 🐐 Glenn Benton (the band is called Deicide) is the most brutal of all, yet he enunciates better than all of them. Check out a song called Believe the Lie. It’s on the Serpents Of The Light Album. WARNING: his lyrics are always blasphemous and or Satanic. Some of us don’t prescribe to the message completely. But there are a lot of truths in his perception of religion. If you want one a little slower check out Worst Enemy, it’s on the album called incineratehymn. If you want to nail their tone on the guitar you have to use all downstrokes or trem picking. No upstrokes, no alternate, no hybrid. Your basically need to lift weights to play what they do!😂🤘🔥🤘
