This album is a masterpiece as far as Im concerned. I never get tired of it no matter how much i listen to it. I wish they would have stuck with this technical/progressive thrash style. As much as I used to like it, it's hard for me to go back to modern Meshuggah knowing that this exists.

I can't believe these motherfuckers have been around since the 80's. This is heavy for days even by today's standard. We've got shit like deathcore and beatdown setting the bar for heavines for the past decade or two, then there's these guys doing the same shit 20 years before its time. Honestly, I feel like modern metal would be much different if they never existed. There's always that constant desire a lot of musicians have to be heavier than the rest, we would have gotten around to what we have today eventualy, but we skipped a couple of decades because of these dudes.

Damn, they must have been using an Ibanez universe on this track cause this is heavy af! They came out roughly around 1990 anyway before they released this in 91, so they were probably one of the first besides Korn to use a 7 string.

This probably has bin mentioned before in this comment section, but "Humiliative" is not on the original "Contradiction Collapse". It first appeared as Opener of the 94 EP "None" - 4 Songs of "None" were then added to the re-release of "Contradiction Collapse" in 98. You can clearly hear the 3 Year Gap to the Rest of the Album - "None" already sounded a lot like Destroy Erase Imrove.

It is quite easy to hear some of Meshuggah's early influences on their first release, "Psykisk Testbild" from 1989. (The title translates to something like "Psychological Test-Picture".) I would mention Metallica as a major influence. The music of this EP is simpler and more straight-forward" than their more recent material, but some of their more progressive elements are present in the form of time-changes and polyrhythmics, and Fredrik Thordendal's lead playing stands out.
